I BROKE 2:00!!!!! My previous PR was 2:02:53Just the Facts, Mam ~ 1:57:59.25 official chip time Watch timing mats mile 1 - 8:49 mile 2 - 8:33 mile 3 - 8:44 26:09 8:43/mile mile 4 - 8:51 mile 5 - 8:44 mile 6 - 8:48 52:33 8:48/mile mile 7 - 9:01 mile 8 - 9:15 mile 9 - 9:03 mile 10 - 9:19 1:29:14 9:10/mile mile 11 - 9:12 mile 12 - 9:26 mile 13 - 9:13 .1 :50 overal 9:00 / mile 527 out of 1365 finishers 12 out of 98 F 45-49 - my first race in a new age group This was 1/2 marathon #3 in 7 weeks. I have been running pretty well and was getting great encouragement from my running partners, Rose and another friend who lurks here. They all believed I could break 2 hours but I was far less convinced. I truly did not believe that I could maintain a 9:00 / mile pace for 13 miles. But I figured if I didn't try I would be really disappointed. So my plan was to aim for 9/M pace and see what happened. Rose, the Rocket Scientist and Little Miss Rosey picked me up at 5:30 and we headed to the Dismal Swamp. It was really nice to ride with them. At the beginning of the race I had positioned myself near the 2:00 pacer. Rose told me to move forward. Good advice. The race started and I spotted my friend who lurks hear not far in ahead. I ran hard to catch up to him as I figured he would be running 9s for a little while anyway and he could help me pace. I stuck to him for the first 7 miles really coming in under 9s. Even with a water stop. After the turn around a fell back a little but was doing ok. I knew my time was ok, but was pretty tired and worried that the Wall would be coming. Fortunately, it never came. I did have some folks passing me the last few miles but I remained pretty steady. I'm very proud of myself for achieving a goal I thought was still far out in front of me. It was a very flat course so I'm sure that helped. I will agree with Rose, that I would not recommend this as a destination race. It was very well organized but the course itself was boring. When I signed up, I pictured trail runs through the swamp. I was disappointed in the course. Thanks for reading and for all the continued encouragement. You all helped me achieve this. edited to added: BIG Thanks to the Rocket Scientist for picking up my race packet and driving to and from Chesapeake!

Really happy for you Mama, and this is good evidence that those two previous half-marathons were good strengtening and conditioning races to get you to a point where you good run a steady pace over a long period. You worked hard, and you made your goal. Very well done! Spareribs

Poor Rabbit. But honestly, RS did try to avoid. I hate that sound when they go under the wheel. Just wanted to note too that RS did avoid the rabbits brother on the way home, in nearly the same location. I think they were a bunch of suicidal rabbits. Love the handle, Mobius. It was fun running with you and thanks again.

Great job, mamaruns! It's always nice to break some sort of milestone mark, and smashing the 2-hour barrier certainly counts.------------------ - Runnin' in Rochester Rochrunner

One of the few things better than a RR is an RR with a PR!!!! Type that 10 times fast. I've watched a lot of TV as a youth, more than once there has been film of rabbits changing arrows marking a course.........Don't feel bad about the cute little bunny. You may have done all the races a favor.------------------ Never regret anything that made you smile, SteveP My User Profile

Way to smash through that 2 hour barrier. Sounds like you ran a smart race, maybe a little fast to start but you kept it together. What could one ask for, great race, great running buddies and a huge PR.. Simply wonderful, wish I could have been there too, but here we are in the PNW now. ------------------ Good running!!! Way to go Mamaruns! Woohoo! I am sorry I did not get to meet you but the rain started coming down and I needed to get dry and make it over to my DD's soccer game. This is a fantastic result for you. I'm so glad to hear you had a good race on what I personally think is a less than inspiring course. Awesome job!Meg

Great race and RR. When Rose mentioned the rabbit, my first thought was of your lurker friend, who led you out 7 miles at a fast clip. I suppose that rabbit got home just fine.------------------ Fortunate--a volleyballer with a running problem Profile
