Topic: Inaugural Dismal Stomp Swamp: Very Short Report |

Professionally organized, well done. Would not recommend this as a destination half. When we signed up, we thought it was on a "trail" in a "swamp". (We love swamps, we live in one.)This half marathon course was on a paved road. Totally flat. ~ 6+ miles out, exact same ~ 6+ miles back. Not much of a swamp scene. Probably a pretty good course for the Kenyans or anyone trying to run a personal best. The volunteers and organizers did a fabulous job. I would not run this again. Ho hum. MY RACE PLAN: "I shall go out as fast as I can, faster than I should, and I shall die at the end." I executed this plan perfectly. At the turnaround my Timex Ironman (black band, pink face, with both traditional hands and digital display!) said, "58 minutes" I did not break 2 hours today. As I crossed the finish line, the pretty pink watch said, "2:02: 52" I love it when a plan comes together! edited to fix typos. And to add this... the r.s. usually stands for "the rocket scientist" today, because of his bad driving on the way to the race... the r.s. stands for "the rabbit slayer." Even though your report was short, I enjoyed it. You had your plan and executed it well. I don't know if I should congratulate you on that, but I can congrtulate you on your overall time. Good job, Rose.TomS ------------------ My Profile

Hi Rosie, Nice job. The scenery doesn't sound too exciting, but pavement never is as inspiring as a swamp. How did the leg hold up? PS R.S. also stands for rabbit stew. What's for dinner? Egret

HA! I love you guys! Sorry for the quick self-bump... But since Spareribs' report contained some great family stuff... I had to add this to keep the family theme going... Lilmissrosie ran 9 minutes slower than her last half marathon (March, 2006) But, heck, she's taking 19 hours this semester... and last year she had been running all the time with track and cross country. Anyway, she ran a 1:54 and is now playing Monopoly with her brothers. She was very happy that her dad ran with her the entire race. A few times she told him to "go ahead" but he stayed with her and she was glad. She said, "I would've given up if not for Dad."

Oh Rose, no swamp, how disappointing. You ran it well though even if the scenery and going were not to your expectations! Well done.

A dismal course I guess. They can't all be PRs. Sounds like a nice family outting for everyone (except the rabbit). (DH may be a rabbit slayer but sounds like a pretty great Dad too.)Skip

Sorry everything was just okay, but the times still sound great. r.s., say it ain't so, great of him to stick with littlemiss. The blessing was to be able to do it as a family.Mrs. Ribs

The race sounds dismal indeed, but your performance (and that of Lilmiss) deserve applause. Congratulations on a fine effort. BTW, I hear swerving to avoid hitting animals on the road causes more accidents than just plowing through them, so don't be too hard on r.s.------------------ Fortunate--a volleyballer with a running problem Profile

So sorry you didn't get as muddy as you had intended--no skinned knees, briar whips across the face, no leeches. Well, your heart was in the right place, and r.s. bagged something fresh for the bar-b. I liked your race strategy, that one always works for me. But sounds like the family had fun. Good race and report. JJJ

RCG, I laughed at your race plan... Very funny. You were oh so close to making your goal. Congrats on a speedy time. So what's this fascination with swamps? Sounds like a mosquito haven to me.. Congrats to the Rabbit Slayer and LilMissRosie too. Here's a little visual aid to help locate Missoula...
