Hey ...had a plan and executed it perfectly ...what more could you ask for? Great run and time! We've all had those races where we say "wouldn't do that one again!". But good run ...good friends/family ...good memories. I'll bet you talk about this one for years. Continued good running! PJ

Hey, Rosie, even though you had a disappointment in the swamp department, you and your gang sure made the best of it! The only downside of the story is the poor bunny... Congrats to all of you, j

As much as I love trail runs, I've yet to fall on pavement. It sounds like a very good family event. ------------------ Never regret anything that made you smile, SteveP My User Profile

Oh, poor bunny (or bunnies?).Given you don't want to run this again, I guess the course met it's goal of being dismal? Thanks for the report. Lou

Despite the non-swamp setting and the rather dismal cold rain at the end of the race, it was nice to meet you and the family for real RCG. I'm glad your race plan worked out so well too! PS. I heard that rabbit was due to be bear food anyway, so maybe it's not such a loss.

Rose, it was good to see you albeit only briefly as I was dying on the way back! I left when the rain started so didn't get to see you. I really think this course is not as fast as touted. It's far to monotonous and there isn't enough crowd support or other items of interest. I know people complain about hills, but I honestly believe a course with some rolling terrain is faster. Anyway, good race! I did get to chat briefly with r.s. at the start as well - I hope he had a good race.Meg

Rose, a short but sweet report on what must have been a long, drawn-out run. Those out-and-backs can be a bit tedious, eh? Maybe "Dismal" applied to the run rather than the swamp...------------------ - Runnin' in Rochester Rochrunner

rose - welcome to the fun runners club where eyes light up at descriptions like"dismal," "swamp," . . . and glaze over at "flat and fast." However, putting dismal on a flat and fast is as misleading as the "flat and fast" we have for some of our really hilly ones.

Thank you everyone! Mobius and Meg! (still waiting for mamaruns...) It was good seeing you at the race. Mobius, you are a fabulous runner! So smart and so good at consistent pacing! Congratulations. (And thanks to DW for holding things for us!)
Meg, I was glad to see you run by but, I knew this wasn't a good racing day... for either of us! Glad you made out ahead, financially. And no rabbits were maimed or killed on your drive over... I am breaking my OP rules but, I just wanted to share this e-mail from the race crew. The course was disappointing but the organization and prompt results were fantastic. E-mail: Rose, Congratulations in finishing the Dismal Swamp Stomp 1/2 Marathon USAT VA-07006-RT on April 14, 2007. We hope you enjoyed this inaugural event. Your overall finish place was 628, your age group finish place was 30 and your gender finish place was 172. Your time 2:02:49.70 gave you a 9:23 pace per mile. Your 3M time was 25:58.60 for a pace of 8:39 per mile Your 6M time was 53:13.05 for a pace of 9:05 per mile Your 10M time was 1:31:53.60 for a pace of 9:40 per mile For a full listing of results please visit http://www.visitchesapeake.com/dismalswampstomp. Excellent race plan and execution Your time was close to breaking 2:00 hours. Too bad there were no swamps . . . It does sound like it was well organized for a first time race and the e-mail was a very nice finishing touch!

Congratulations on executing your plan. Too bad there wasn't a swamp! Did you save a rabbit's foot? Sounds like he/she doesn't need it any more.

Barb, wish I was there I would have come back and pushed you to a sub 2 finish. Even if I would have needed a wheel barrow to do it. Way to stick with a plan. Sorry to hear about the rabbit, did you get to have it for a nice dinner of stew? Any run/race you finish in the upright position and still breathing, no matter how hard is a good run. Seriously, great run and great time. I know you are still getting back into shape after the leg problems. You will only get faster. Have you ever done the Seattle Marathon, you know its coming up in the fall? Let me know which ones you and RS are planning and maybe I can travel too. ------------------ Good running!!! Barb/RS/LMR- Nice family running/stomping through the non-swamp, non-PR course. You guys did great and sounds like it was a difficult course. Even though the A-team would say 'I love it when a plan comes together!', I'm not sure that is the best thing to do...ha. Best of luck in your next adventure!

I had to add this to keep the family theme going... Lilmissrosie ran 9 minutes slower than her last half marathon (March, 2006) But, heck, she's taking 19 hours this semester... and last year she had been running all the time with track and cross country. Anyway, she ran a 1:54 and is now playing Monopoly with her brothers. She was very happy that her dad ran with her the entire race. A few times she told him to "go ahead" but he stayed with her and she was glad. She said, "I would've given up if not for Dad."
Rose - I have been thinking about this post the past two days. It certainly is a reminder to me that running isn't always about running. Peace sister
