Marj and I flew into Washington on Saturday, checked into the host hotel, got our registration package, walked the local trails to admire the cherry blossoms and enjoy the warming weather. We had dinner in town that evening (after not being able to connect with Liz) and walked another mile or two sightseeing afterwards before getting back to the hotel. Early Sunday morning we shuttled out to the start. The temp. was perfect (mid 50's by race time and no rain, but overcast). we both wore shorts and shortsleeve T's with 'throwaway' long sleeve T's on top. They got thrown away within the first mile. The race was one of the best organized races I've ever participated in. Each corral started in waves, so there was very little walking to get to the start as there is in most races. The shuttles to and from the start, water stations, traffic control and the finishing chutes were all done very well. And, of course, the cherry blossoms were in full bloom (a couple of weeks early because of the early warm weather). Marj and I started out much too fast (:as we usually do) at 10's for the first 2 miles. I gradually moved ahead but slowed down in the middle miles. My last 3 miles (which are mostly downhill) were much faster. I finished at 1:44 (10:28 average) and Marj 4 minutes behind me. We were both happy with our times and felt quite good afterwards even though these weren't P.R.'s Fortunately for us, the temps shot up to the high 70's on Monday and we enjoyed a number of D.C. museums with small crowds and still more cherry blossoms. After spending an overnight with family in Maryland we flew back this morning. It was a wonderful mini-vacation.

Sounds like a very nice few days, hen and marj. Seems like a lot of boomers have been talking about those cherry blossoms. I don't think I've ever had the privilege of seeing them. Must make a point of that next year. cj

Thanks for the report which reminded me to head up to DC in the next week or so to enjoy the blossoms. The background photo on my cell phone is a picture I took of the Washington Monument framed by cherry blossoms from a trip I took up there a year ago. That was a great mini vacation for you. Glad the racing went well for you both. Thanks for sharing. Vista ------------------ vista129

They should be organized in D.C., though, I would think. I lived there for about 5 months in 2001 and was fortunate to be there during cherry blossom time. It is quite spectacular. Great result and nice mini-vacation. Looking forward to meeting you and Marj very soon.
