Spectaculaaaar, mc! Third place is fantastic and, wow, 6:40 avg pace. Really fun RR and terrific photos.

I ran the Jasper-Banff Relay three times in the '80s, and there really is nothing quite like running on a team. It's really, really tough. Although I'd rather not see critters with teeth, I think I'd take the coyote over a grizzly, though.

I'd love to run a relay in the desert, but I couldn't keep up with you lot and I'd probably wilt in the heat. Hmmm. I've heard rumours Jasper-Banff will be coming back. We could trade pain.

Great report MC. I was planning on looking up the race results today. I found the website after someone else posted about the ragnar relay Great River race. I only found out about the Del Sol a week before the race, but am already trying to get a team going for next year. It sounded like a lot of fun based on the info on the web site, and I think your report confirms it. Thanks for the report

MC,

I'm trying to think of the right superlatives to use.

You are "way cool". What a spectacular event, and doing it all in 6:4x. Nice.

Brings back Hood-to-Coast flashbacks. Some good, some not so good........the third leg is HARD!

Amazing job mc, and your team's average pace is mind boggling. Great job!

A Master's division you say? Hmmmmm....

MCSolar,
I enjoyed reading your RR.
Very well written, and great photos to boot!
Sounds like it was a really fun time!
I have got to do a relay some day..........

I don't know what Ragnar is doing down there in AZ.
Ragnar is the name of the NFL Vikings mascot here in MN.
He doesn't appear to be the running type........he rides a Harley in the Metrodome.......

"a conqueror, an explorer, and a wild man", is that you, mc? What a fantastic race! You are all very tough...don't think I could hold up to that at all. Congratulations! Great pictures and beautiful desert. I'd love to run there at a leisurely pace.

Wow! Your team is blazing fast! Congrats on a fantastic performance. Sounds like you had a great time (even w/o the sleep). After reading this, I'd like to do something like this in the future. Thanks for the awesome RR.

dave hill, 55, national-level masters runner (he was listed in that running times article a few months back) and all-around nice guy was on our team too in the first group of six; he's third from the left, back row, in the finish photo. on his second leg he ran 35:XX for 10k... although he kept saying that it was all downhill.... modest, friendly, and awesomely fast. i won't even mention the younger guys from the team who kick my a$$ every single week...

thanks for your comments guys!

The "I wish" bandwagon includes me...I wish I could run that fast...and I wish I could have run that event...very cool. I'll work on the speed. A little harder to plan my scant travel opportunities around any particular event, though I'll admit when I first read about this relay two or three months ago, I was tempted to try...

Great report. And great run.

mc, cool race and cool RR. That sounds magical out running in the moonlit desert listening to the coyotes. The seeded starts are interesting -- quite a twist to start nearly alone and finish in a crowd.
And nice running, too. You ran some nice legs.

I can't possibly get caught up on commenting on races but I couldn't let this one go by. Wow! This sounds great. That's an awesome team you had to maintain that kind of average speed. Great report and great pictures.
