What more could you wish for than Beer and Irish Stew on the Beach at 9 am! I love everything Irish so it is especially fun for me. We do this as a family weekend and meet my running partners and their girls down at the Beach. The 8K was fun. We sent boyruns to the front to start and Paparuns, Girlruns and I started about 1/3 the way back. Girlruns and I quickly left Paparuns behind. He has a bad knee and was taking it slowly. Girlruns lost me but I was happy that she was running well so I settled into a comfortable but speed pace for myself. Suddenly, I see Girlruns. She has slowed down due to shinsplints. So we run together for a couple of miles. I'm trying to get her mind of the shin pain. She is doing a great job. We come around to the board walk. She tells me to go ahead. I'm feeling really good so I go. I really didn't think I would finish at a sub 9:00 pace but I did so I am very happy with the race. The rest of the runs family was happy but a little disappointed with their times I think. We have an appointment with a sports doc to have Girlruns shins looked at. I think it may be from some overpronation. I'm wondering if a gait analysis may help. The half-marathon was really fun. My goal was to stay with my running partner. She is a steady eddy 10:00 per mile pace. She had hopes of finishing sub 2:10 and I wanted to help her do it. Besides, it is WAY more fun to run with your friend. So we did. I stuck to her like glue. At times I felt myself picking up the pace but pulled back if I saw her fall back. About mile 10 I can tell she is getting tired. I am talking, rambling about anything I can think of to keep her mind off being tired. I must have sounded like an idiot. I am the one who usually watches the time and I think I iritate her but telling her what the pace is, so I vowed I would not look at my watch or at least would not tell her what we are doing. We came around on the board walk and she picks up the pace. So I fell right in with her. My legs really wanted to do something different so this felt good. All of a sudden I saw her hit the proverbial wall. I've felt it before myself, but I've never seen anyone else do it. I felt bad for her and willed her on. We did finish together but I think she was disappointed with her time so I feel a little bad. My legs felt really tired, I think from the flat course at such a steady pace. Both days were beautiful, but chilly. I know I read it in choover's race report, but the F16 flyover at the beginning of the race is really cool. Thanks for reading.
