Nicely run marathon Holly! For a first marathon you sure ran it intelligently. Your decision to go by HR was key in keeping you slow. I'll bet you had a nice negative split on this (let us know, ok?) HR definitley goes up with temperature but you had enough to push it a bit. Nice job!

No, I didn't end up with a negative split, but the 2 halves were pretty close - I think I ran the first half about 1 minute faster than the second half. But I took a couple of walking breaks the second half. Still, it was pretty even pacing, all things considered. ------------------

It sounded like you did the all right things bringing down your HR as required surely helped towards your strong finish. Your hubby had the best task of the day

Holly,Very nice job. You didn't mention having any serious physical problems during the race, which tells me you ran conservatively, and also suggests you have a much faster marathon in you, when you gain racing experience and have done more training. Dark Horse ------------------

Talking about "expecting the unexpected" ...a swollen river that floods the race course! Who would ever have expected that! Congrats, Holly, on a very successful first marathon! You should be very proud ...and tell your son he should be proud of you as well! Onward and upward ...start thinking about 'what's next'.

The song "Walking on Sunshine" comes to mind. Flippin sweet. And you met a boomer!!! And you achived a goal 99.3% of the human population can not do. Holly, how awesome. I love love love the smile on your face in your finish photo. I've seen tons of finisher photos and I think yours is the best I've ever seen!! Holly, great job. The heat and the last minute changes sound tough but you handled them well. I would go nuts without mile markers. You did a nice job in your training and dealt with a few bumps. Great race and report! The photos were a very nice addition. You held up well in that heat. I wonder if the combination of the heat and the excitement of the race drove up your HR? I'm glad you did better in Dayton than my Sooner women!------------------
