Todays race is brought to you by the letter f,d,c and F again.
sunny 80 degrees not a cloud in the sky, wait that was yestedays weather.Toay is was foggy cold and drizzling before the start of the race the drizzle stopped and the fog lifted some. The wind and cold remained.

This was my first race and last night i had trouble sleeping everything i dreamt about was about the race.I think i ran it 10,000 times last night and each time i forgot something or did soomething stupid and finished last.
This morning i got caught up the atmosphere and was having a blast even though i had some buterfles in the belly.I made good use of the port-o-potties.
At 730 i saw the half marathon runners start and wished i was going with them.(maybe next year)
I saw a foot doctor at one of the expo tents. We are going to get together and see about making me some custom insoles.I hope that they are worth it and not just some snake oil.
When my DW found out the 5k start was like a half mile away she decided not to walk to the start line ith me.So DD did i gave her my jacket just as we were about to start.
At the start of the race it took me about 1 minute to cross the start line. some of the dogs and strollers must have missed that part about starting in back.
I took up a nice pace.I checked the garmin and it said i was doing a 10min pace. I thought it was broke because i usually run a 15min pace.I had the ipod going and was jamming along then the 2nd song came on and i realized i forgot to start the 5k playlist so i started it then. All the songs i thought i had loaded for the hills ended up being played after i did the hills.
At 1 mile i was running 13.20 thats 1 minute faster than i have run this course before. At mile 2 it was 14.22. Mile 3 was 14.05.
All total i set a personal record or 43.40.
I want to thank the runners who gave me encouragement and advice on how to run this. However you left out 1 thing.
Wipe the boogers off your face before crossing the finsih line.

Greta race and RR Eric.

Congratulations are in order for completeing your very first race!
Before long you will be able to sleep the night before and be an old pro at the 5k. Be carefull...racing can be addictive!

If you continue and progress slowly, any distance is within your grasp.

Good running and racing!

Congratulations Eric on starting and completing your first race. There is always some tension at the begining of every race no matter how many you've run. Good to see your family is encouraging and wants to join in.

Eric, congratulations on your first race. It sure sounds like you had a good run and a great experience. Hope you can get your family running, too. The only one in mine that wants to is Max the dog, and he's not big on a steady pace

Hoooray! Good for you! And a booger-free finish line picture for you as well.

July 22nd is too far away for your next race -- find one that's sooner and enjoy!

WTG Eric. Nice run and report. You're making excellent progress in the running game. Good to see you've got more racing on the calendar too. I think it's a real motivator.

Good Job,

Ok, I'm a little dense here. f,d,c, and F ...
I'm thinking fog ... drizzle ... cold ... hmmmmmmm ..... FUN? Wasn't sure about that, but am sure that everytime I race, I still get butterflies. I hope one of these days when I grow up, that will go away. Glad you had a good first race. WTG! cj

Eric, that's GREAT! You outpaced yourself--just goes to show you what race day adrenaline can do for you.

If you have any solutions to the pre-race insomnia, let me know. That happens to me all the time! One thing I tell myself is that it is the sleep you get in the week before a race that is most important...the sleep you get the night before really has little effect on race performance.

CONGRATS on your first race! Still trying to figure out the letters...

Great race Eric. You crack me up. PRs rock. Many of us had/have a hard time sleeping pre race day. I still set my alarm just in case. Hard work pays off.
Sweet.

I just knew the excitement would make you go faster than you thought! Now you have to start to worry about what outfit to wear too, that should keep you up dreaming all night as well.

And, oops!, forgot to mention the boogers down the face problem, especially at a cold race. Stash kleenex somewhere on you next time.
Congratulations!

Eric,

Congratulations on your first race! Sounds like you had fun and now you got your whole family interested too. Great! You will just have to run more races and then you will (usually) sleep better the night before. Good job!
