The best of times, The worst of timesFirst let me say, I know rasmussenmp’s RR will be worth waiting for It was great meeting him and runrwife I’m looking forward to his relocation to the PNW, His move will be Virginia’s loss and Seattle’s gain. I hadn’t run for the week leading up to this race. I had some very minor niggles after my last hard runs, a stiff back and threats of PF for my first couple steps in the morning. My only goal was to finish standing up, and hopefully to break 4 hours. Still this was a 20 mile training run for me, so I didn’t really care what happened the last 6 miles as long as I didn’t die. Obligatory fashion report, Khaki running hat, Rudy Project racing red shades, White Seattle running company T-shirt, race ready pocket shorts, and......... shoes. The good: the weather was perfect, as the sun came up, it warmed up to 50+ and sunny. Wind was maybe 10 MPH, but we changed directions often so it wasn’t a big deal. The first 12 miles had several scenic out and backs. A chance to spy the faster runners in front and a chance enjoy the scenery. I loped along keeping an easy steady 8:40 or so. The last 14 or so was a 7 mile out and back through the Maryland country side with the wind in our face on the way out and slightly uphill. This part of the run was on a moderately busy highway but the shoulder was huge. The last 7 miles was downhill with the wind at our back This was the easiest marathon I’ve run, no issues, I finished in about 3:53. This gives me lots of confidence for having an enjoyable Boston. I now just have to start my ©Recovery/Taper as I prepare for the next endevor. The Bad: As may have been noticed in another thread. I had planned on meeting Arf at this race. She took a bad fall the day before we were scheduled to fly out. The Doctor told her no flying. What’s even worse is she won’t be able to run for a while I was REALLY tempted to bag this race but Arf wouldn’t hear of it, and I think it would have made her feel worse (if that’s possible) so I ran it with a cloud over me, but with heeling vibes being sent out to the ultra goddess with every step I ran. Dave

Dave... Great job on your "training run". That worked out great as you prepare for Boston. Thanks for the photo, nice jackets So sorry to hear of Arf's injury <<<Arf>>>. I'm sure your 26.2 miles of healing vibes helped her. Hope your PF is better. I have some of that too... very annoying in the morning. Steve

Wow - nicely done! You make it sound so easy. That was a tough break for Arf, but I agree with Perch, those healing vibes will surely find her. Nice photo!------------------ Holly

Nice race and RR Dave, Awfull that Arf couldn't make the trip but I'm sure she feels better knowing how well you did.Take care of that PF. I had a bad case that took 18 months to clear up. Stretching has worked for me and I just caught a new stretch where you pull your toes back while you stretch you ankle back. (Looks to be similar to the PF sock routine). Good luck as you taper for Boston and well done! Fran

A wonderful but bittersweet report. You are certainly smart to keep an eye on any niggles, and it seems from this 'easy' marathon that you are doing a good job and will have a great Boston. Are you a Marathon Maniac yet? You sure seem to be traveling and running a lot of them.Congratulations!

Nicely done, Dave! Some training run, indeed! Nice photo. So sorry to hear about Arf What's with the touch of PF going around? Perchcreek and SS, too? And mine -- just a touch that has comes and goes, reminding me once a week or so it's not quite ready to leave just yet. Thank goodness not too much longer until Boston. Look forward to seeing you there, if not on sooner at Myrtle Edwards.

I am sorry to hear so many of you are struggling with PF. Dave, nice jacket. Thanks for posting the pix. Let us know when you are an official maniac. I long for the day when I can run a 'training run' of 20 + 6.2 in under 4 hours. Congratulations, and good running in Boston. cj

Divechief, nice jacket and nice training run. Be careful with that PF during your taper. Looks like you'll be all set for Boston. BTW, what do you buy as a souvenir when you already have the jacket? Mark

Dave - for a guy who didn’t do much more than one, if that, marathon a year for the last year or two (and didn’t even run at all before that), a giant yay on such a hugh accomplishment of becoming a marathon maniac with your Jan/Feb/March marathons (and more in May/June/July, etc.), especially getting to dedicate Potomac will to the DL’ed ultra-goddess. Hope she recovers fast or I'll do the same in Yakima.

Great race, Dave! And wow! it's my fantasy to someday use "3:53" and "easy" in the same sentence describing my marathon, but I think I'll win the 100 million dollar power ball first. So sorry to hear Arf was hurt... more healing vibes from me too... <<<<<Arf>>>>>>

Hi Dave,The "good" seems pretty good - a well-run race, and it seems like it was a terrifice final confidence-booster for Boston (if only those niggles will go away...). The "bad" is disheartening - Arf's fall sounds like it was pretty nasty. I hope she'll be OK. I'll be thinking of her on my workouts, and looking forward to her return. Good luck in Boston! Jay

Hi Chief of Dives. Thanks for writing this report. It brought back fond memories of our Lower Potomac River Marathon 2005 experience. I had forgotten that the last miles are downhill. Now I remember feeling the best I've ever felt during the last part of a marathon at that one. Glad you went. You are right. Arf would NOT be happy if you had missed the race. Good running.
