ps - i listen to music on easy days and during long runs. for speedwork, tempo, group runs or races i leave the music home. [This message has been edited by mcsolar99 (edited Nov-16-2006).]

I listen to all sorts of music... lots of stuff from the 60's, Reggae, Irish folk, bluegrass,Cajun, jazz... just about anything. Lately I've been listening to a lot of country and TexMex ....Chris LeDoux, Texas Tornados, Flaco Jimenez, Iris Dement, Sammy West with a little Johnny Cash throw in.
One site I like to check out with free downloads is http://music.download.com/ . I'm trying to talk both of my kids into uploading some of their orginal songs on the site.... just for some free exposure. As a note to anyone listening to music while they train or race...... just be courteous and be safe. I know with most earphones that they can be turned down to where you can hear your music as well as the other sounds around you.
Wow..that's a great site..thank you..

hee hee ... that one sure brought back memories... I like Nickelback -- that last CD had a song on it called Animals that is a little raw, but I love running to it. Also like Lifehouse, 3 Doors Down, Mae, Acceptance, Foo Fighters. Am looking for new stuff again. Think I will try McSolars mix to see if there is anything I can get into. cj btw -- I wore my mp3 to my first marathon. About M16 it got VERY annoying. I wanted to throw it in the nearest ditch -- but my cheap side got the better of me. From now on during races, I'm carrying my music in my head. That was a pain in the a.....

No problem, Vanessa. Matisyahu has two albums, Youth and Live at Stubb's, reggae oriented, really good. Little Willies are more blue-grass oriented, perform with Nora Jones. Weather Report's jazz fusion, no lyrics. Kinda out there a bit but I recommend "Heavy Weather". Enjoy! If you like these, I can recommend more. Just let me know. Chris

hi susan... the stuff i mixed has a variety of beats per minute. usually they start slowly and build faster. solarmix1 starts slowly and then gets to 184bpm with the pretender's "precious" but then slows down, speeds up, etc. i've run several long runs with djsteveboy's 170-180bpm tracks and basically didn't miss a single beat, but the mixes i made up aren't really geared toward getting my feet in sync with the beat... more background music, with occasional tracks to inspire faster running or tracks at the end to slow down.

Okay Vanessa. Now you did it. You made me try this running with music outside thing... I thought, "I better try it to see what all the fuss is about."My husband shuns me now, as we were both running "purists" before that darn walkman MP3 thingy! I joined a music service. (It is ethical to do this) I ran 14 miles, outside, with music the whole way. YIKES! Have I crossed over to the dark side? Naw, it's okay. There's room for everyone on this road. I shall stick by rule of not running in any races with personal music devices. The ambience of the race shall remain pure. (Oh, and Neil Young is great on a Long May You Run)

Many of you are more concerned about your music than you are about actually running. Phew! And during a race?! Help! Also be sure to take along your cell phone, strap on some water bottles, don't forget the pepper spray, the energy gels, the hand weights, etc. Pardon me for being very old fashioned, but I put on running shoes, the necessary clothing for the weather, and go for a run. That's music to me.
