ah - here's the boomer pet thread! this pic shows running partner pelle (almost 4 years old - in september it will be 3 years since we adopted him from the alternative humane society and he was about a year old then) with feline assistant #1, mr. spook, who is 16 years old and doing pretty well for an old guy. he's lying on my desk right now, basking in the heat of the lamp. (too early to bask in the heat of the sun, which has not quite risen yet - i can see the alpenglow on snow-capped hoodoo mountain outside my window). mr. spook has a sister, miss muffin, who is a bit camera shy - we'll have to get a picture of her to add to boomer pets as well,- fwiw susan [This message has been edited by slarsson (edited Jun-03-2006).]

I can't see DinDin. Susan, Pelle is bee-yoo-tiful, so soft and that mug. Ooh, give her(?) a kiss for me. Mr. Spook is beautiful too, I love how his two front paws are so daintily posed. Thanks Barb for bumping this up. You can never have too many pet pictures, ask Ribs. Wolfie and hallycat look like they have a hard life. I want to see Vlasic Pickel (hehe)...

I have just spent some lazy post-running time looking at everyones best buddies - they are all so cute! AJ -I have to say I also have a redheaded Timmy, although mine is a "real" 15 y/o DS (Your Timmy is probably better behaved than mine!) I'll try to add my little buddy here ... His name is Vegas and he is a Papillon. He is much too lazy to be a running buddy, although he is quite excellent as a sleeping pal! He does get the zooms from time to time, leaping from the couch and pretending to be a cat ... but a runner he is not! ----Tammy

Oh, those running partners make me want a dog! (Kind of.)Here are Licorice and Princess. They're about four years old. We adopted them the same day, but they are not littermates. Here they are on the screen porch, which to them is "outside."

Okay, instead of posting a picture, here are two short stories about the PBJ family's first pet (written for a local paper's "naughty" dog contest:Taking Out Muffy Travis T. O’Justice (T-Dog) was a lean, muscular 95 pound old school black lab. He was a leashed dog, and we went for daily three to five mile walks. On rare occasions, he would be “free range.” As a lab, he derived pure joy in fetching a tennis ball over and over again. One time, as he was barreling back towards me at full speed, I went right, he went left, and I became the ten pin to his bowling ball. But this story is about T-Dog’s escapades in prison (actually, his stays at the upscale kennel known as “the Spa.”) After each stay at the Spa, T-Dog would come home with a hoarse bark and a scraped up nose, and sleep for a full day. We wrote it off as “prisoner name calling” and “prison scuffles.” We started to realize something was really amiss when we got a subsequent report card. “Travis tolerated his bath,” was the write-up. “What does that mean?” I inquired. “Several people got wet,” was the response. The next stay made T-Dog infamous. We didn’t hear about it until we returned the following spring. We tried to sign T-Dog up for daily playtime in the courtyard, but we were shown his permanent record, which had an oversized “No PT” written in magic marker on it. “He’s been banned for life,” said the caregiver, “he took out Muffy!” Apparently, Travis, in his exuberance, had knocked over the courtyard supervisor during his last playtime. A shaken Muffy had quit the next day. T-Dog had knocked over the prison guard, and a legend had been born. The Swallower Travis T. O’Justice (T-Dog) was a lean, muscular 95 pound old school black lab. His AKC registry showed a common ancestor on both sides of his family tree. “That’s a good thing,” said the breeders (cue the Deliverance dueling banjos). Unfortunately, when there’s common lineage, certain traits are, umm, amplified. T-Dog had a compulsive swallowing problem. During his ten year life span, he swallowed dozens of socks and underwear, two baby bottle nipples (don’t ask), multiple rubber chew toys, and crayons by the carton (oddly, he ignored the washable kind, but clean up of the after effects of regular crayons brought new meaning to the term “one scoop with rainbow sprinkles”.) His antics were legendary, and his intestinal blockage surgeries funded our vet’s pension plan while simultaneously sending a pet insurance company into receivership. T-Dog also consumed edible items, including an X-games worthy 720 of a Friendlies Jubilee roll slice. Holiday dinner guests watched in dumbfounded shock and awe as it went from paw struck plate to gulping mouth. If only I had videotaped the launch and chomp. Another time, T-Dog broke into the garage, and ripped into an unopened bag of dog chow. We calculated (by weight) that he had consumed one week’s worth of chow in a single feeding frenzy. Of course, my wife couldn’t resist putting a little chow into his bowl to see if he had reached his true saturation point (think Monty Python’s Meaning of Life one wafer thin mint scene). Oh, there’s so many more stories...
