Here are some pics of a recent day trip to Big Meadows in Shenandoah National Park. It was a beautiful day out and Timmy got to romp around a lot.

A beautiful day for a ride. Are we there yet?

Timmy on one of the trails:

An accidental picture, but a good one!

Someone show me how to post pics and I'll post pics of my two rabbits (a lilac named Dennis Hopper and an English spot named Hedda Hopper) and my two Italian greyhounds--Beau and Stanley.
And no, the rabbits and the dogs do not get along. One of my IGs is afraid of the rabbits, but then, he is afraid of his own shadow. Pet lover here!
Sorry to be the village technical idiot.

Shelley, what most people do is get an account on a site like flickr or photobucket and then you would post a link to the picture by putting the link inside of img tags [-img-] link [-/img-] Take out the dashes after the brackets, I just put those there otherwise they wouldn't show up
We would love to see your crew, especially Spareribs.

edited to add thanks for the Timmy pics AJ, he always makes me smile so I can imagine what living with him must be like.

If this works, then this is Misha at age 5:
[ ]
Misha would not dream of joining me on any of my runs! When I take her outside to ... well, you all know why dogs go outside ... when she is finished, she hunches up her back, like "ok, pick me up and carry me now. I've had enough of this exercise stuff" Not saying exactly she is a little wimp, but our outdoor cat loves to terrorize her.

Definitely princess material there, cj. Misha looks like she's just been coiffed!

I just love this thread. Bunnies, cats, hellcats, and dog-o-rama. More, more, more.

aj, your skill with the camera (on the move, no less) and the photogeneity of Timmy produces some amazing results. I love the mirror pic and the super close-up.

I’ll come back to this thread tonight because I’m sure this issue has been discussed here but just in case (and I want to see all the cute pets)…….. when is it too cold outside to run your dog? My theory is that any temp below freezing or 30 degrees is too cold for a short-haired dog (Doberman). I’m not a fast runner (12 minute training mile) so he’s not getting a running workout like I am. It’s more like a trot for him and he only tires in heat/humidity. Getting him a coat won’t keep his legs warm so it’s not a “dress warmer” issue for him. The mornings now are in the teens and I think that’s too cold for him. Or should I just run him for a mile or so and see how he reacts to the cold? I don’t want a dog-sicle. Any advice from cold weather runners with dogs would be appreciated.

Hi,
I have two shorthaired old (13 and 10yrs) wiener ladies, an a puppy wirehaired one (7mths).

I´ve been out with them in all kinds of weather, but not running under about -12 to 15celsius.
I´m not really running with the young one yet, because there is all too many things she needs to explore en route..

The oldest one has started to get cold very easily, she clearly shows she wants home, but the 10 year old still runs with me, 3 - 5 miles, not too fast (we both have short legs) but she shows no signs of being tired or cold. But then, go straight home and inside, even if they don´t sweat, I feel they start to freeze if i stop to gossip with my neighbour after the run.

So when I say I´ll take out the dogs, it means one very short turn, one very zigzaggy one, and thanks god, one to jog conviniently togetrer with a dog that enjoys it!

Cat (nice handle fo this thread!)
(Actually it just comes from my name)

Thanks for your reply. Predicted temp for tomorrow morning on weather.com is -7C, feels like (with wind) -12C. I may try taking him out and see how he reacts. I can always cut the run short if he’s pitching a fit. He’s usually more interested in spotting other animals anyway. But does notice rain and hates that. Gets used to it tho.

I have a wiener lady, too! Heidi will be 14 in February. I found her a year and a half ago and couldn’t find her owner. I was shocked when the vet told me how old she was. They had her vet records but when they contacted the owner, the phone number was disconnected and they wouldn’t give me her address. So she became mine. There’s a wiener on page 1 of this thread that belongs to SLOjim. It looks just like mine except mine is in the process of losing more weight (22.4# to 18.2# since March). So she’s a little more low to the ground. The vet said that she should weigh 12#. I can’t imagine her losing another 6#. She just had gallstones removed last week so she’s not doing any running or stair climbing. And you run miles with yours!?! Or did I misunderstand? Heidi won’t/can’t run more than a few city houses and that’s after a squirrel. Maybe that’s why she has a weight problem lol.

Hi Lynne!
touching story of your old wiener! Had one that died at 15!

SLOjim has one! (the picture!). Yes, I run with the 10 year old, but no fast ones. She has always been athletic, dogs differ too. The oldest one we often call Princess, because she is so delicate and touchy.. All she wants (or has really ever wanted) is a good bed, delicious food, good service and an inside toilet, please (that one she hasn´t got yet...).

Start with walk/runs and make them gradually longer. My dogs seem to get more cold from being wet than out in freezing temperatures. I had jackets for them, but that didn´t seem to make any difference as long as they kept moving.

good runs/walks!

We have 2 cats named Flo and Keba. Flo is 12 and Keba is somewhere between 8 and 10. We adopted Flo as a kitten from the Humane Society and Keba adopted us. She appeared outside our door and we took her in. She was a skinny, abandoned and abused cat but it s now living the good life! She is very sweet. Flo can be sweet and cuddly when she wants but she has a devil side as well. She has been battling a kidney problem recently and is getting quite the reputation at the vet's as being an angry, fighting, biting, peeing cat! It's embarassing!! :-) We love them both.

I'd show pictures but I don't know how to include them.

What nice pictures! Once she fully recovers from the surgery, I’ll take her out walking again. The last time I walked her down to the corner (summertime), she laid down and wouldn’t get back up. I had to carry her home and she’s no light load….. awkward to carry. But the moment she sees another dog or squirrel, there’s no catching her. She hates my Doberman (Doberman rescue). He’s pretty high strung and often in her face. She’s always snapping at him. He just wants someone to play with but he’s too rough (103#) and can do some damage (has unintentionally, to me). The pictures I have of them anywhere near each other is Heidi and Fee (cat – stray at 4 weeks) on the recliner and T-Rex sitting on the floor in front of the recliner. She normally sleeps downstairs on the recliner (with Fee, now 20 years and about 7#, who often sleeps on top of her) but since the surgery, she has been in bed with me. I’m afraid she’ll try to jump off the recliner or try to climb the stairs and open her stitches. And so I’m carrying her up and down the stairs (counts as weightlifting). Vet said no stairs.

SLOjim:
I haven’t had a chance to read all the posts here…… just looked at the pics…… did Sweet Pea die? She looks so pretty and young in the picture….. a little angel. Heidi looks a lot like Sweet Pea but rounder (more giant) lol. I’ve heard they have back/weight problems and are always jumping off the furniture and hurting themselves. When Heidi was 22# she did that and limped around whimpering over the weekend. She was better in a couple of days. Think she must have just pulled something. Before the gall stone surgery last Thursday, she was getting really good at leaping from the recliner and not hurting herself (what a 4# weight loss will do for a dog). If she gets down to 12# those squirrels won’t have a chance. I bet you miss Sweet Pea. They are so like children. And often with us as long. Have you thought about getting another dog? At a wiener rescue?

I had to put my red 4 year old Doberman, Klaus, to sleep last August 2005. He had bone cancer. I took him to specialists and veterinarian hospitals but they suggested leg removal and chemo with a 50% chance of survival. I couldn’t imagine a good quality of life for a dog that size to have a missing back leg. And the survival chances weren’t good. When he wouldn’t eat or take his pain medication, I had to put him to sleep. I couldn’t have him suffer. That was a sad day. We can get so attached to them. I found Heidi (wiener) in April 2005 crossing (walking slow like a possum) a busy street. I had to stop traffic to get her. I had no idea at the time that she was 12. And what a joy she is. Everybody loves her.

Pictures? I have some but haven’t set up a photo bucket thingy yet so it may take awhile to get one out here. I’ll do that soon, tho. I also have a picture of my three cats with Santa Claus (two have gone on to cat heaven). That pic is always good for a laugh. Proceeds for the pic went to the Humane Society. You must have been practically on the ground to get that first picture of Sweet Pea. Lol

Lynne....

The picture of SweetPea was taken when she was 14...... she always looked young for her age

She did pass away last July due to kidney failure. We will get another wiener dog sometime..... maybe this year and it will probably be through a local rescue.

SweatPea would alway jump down from the sofa or off our bed..... there was just no stopping her. One time my wife was in our basement and she managed to jump over a safety guard rail and fall over 8 ft down to the basement floor....... I thought she was a goner......but after the initial shock she was running around later that day.

SLOjim: I had a cat that died of kidney failure. I didn’t know there was anything wrong with him until the day he laid down in the litter box. So I took him to the vet. It was too late. He was 20. I hope that the gallstone removal with Heidi was her only problem. The vet showed me the stones and he said he never saw stones like that before. Interesting. That’s something about Sweet Pea jumping that gate and not getting hurt. Spry little doggie.

I believe it's Mayor Dr. Timmy...

btw, I love dachshunds too. They're amazingly tough little dogs. If we were to get a dog, it would be a black and tan one. I think we'd name it Pokey...

Alas, my wife and I are not home enough to properly take care of a dog. It would not be fair to the dog. So I'm stuck with cats. Three of them...

I'm upset that no one (new or existing) is posting pictures of their pets.

Since I have no shame, here are more pics of Dr. Timmy. Soon, this is going to be Timmy's thread!

These are some pictures from the summertime. Notice Timmy is sporting his summer cut.
