I’d originally signed onto CR last January with a more boring handle, but after reading this threat, I wanted to come up with something a little more interesting to post under. (Though strangely, I forgot to post it here!) The new handle is a nod to my current status as a tri-wannabe and the fact that what I lack in speed and athletic gifts, I make up for with dogged determination. I remember when I was 9 or 10 playing one-on-one football (it was small, small town) with a lean and lanky boy. I wasn’t any of those things then. I’m still working on the “lean” – the “lanky” and “boy” parts are out of the question. Anyway, I remember having the ball and starting somewhere around my end zone. It didn’t take him long to catch me. First he tried to tackle me. That wasn’t going to happen. Then he just tried to hang onto one of my legs. I plodded on, dragging him with me. Finally, in desperation, he jumped onto my back. I, of course, just carried him across the goal line for a touch down. Funny, but he never wanted to play football with me again. This year’s BSIM was my first marathon. I didn’t make the 5hr30min cut-off for “official finishers,” but from the start, I knew that as long didn’t get seriously injured or killed along the way, I was definitely going to finish. Cycling’s my first sport (if you don’t count juggling), so once I got the first marathon checked off, I immediately started to work on my swimming. I've got a ways to go on that, too, but I know I'll get there. Go ahead, triandstopme. ;-) Barb

What the heck, I sell wine for a living, collect a bit, and enjoy drinking wine on a regular basis. Definetly part of the training and a must after every marathon. I'm a big fan of a bottle of bubbly after a race(Drappier Grande Sandree, Perrier Jouiet Le Fleaur), shoots you straight to the moon, even if the race wasn't so good.

How appropriate to post just after winejunky.I used to have the more boring handle of louking, which I got from taking my first name and my last name and plugging together, for those slower runners But this year I decided not to be quite as boring, at least handle-wise, and picked this one. I brew beer at home on a regular basis and am a "certified" beer judge (no we don't spit it out). This is what I came up with to combine running and beer. ------------------ Lou, the runner formerly known as louking (Mr. predawnrunner) MD, USA Lou's Brews Training

Hence, 'Bolter.' >> Add a pinch of salt, stir well, conflate in a pre-heated 350° oven for 25 minutes. Voila ~ Handle Flambé. . . . . e k i M ~ ^ + ^ + ^ + ^ + ^ + ^ + ThunderWho ?

I was wondering who this new guy was,,,,,, now we know it's just Mike! Do you really fly airplanes? Starr 42K is actually only 26.1 miles, but it's close enough...... http://www.sciencemadesimple.net/length.php

It's just me, burnt Eggos and all....I am better cooking them now!!!! Yes I have my pilots license, but I'm not active now due to costs. My wife doesn't like to fly in small planes so my passion became a drain on the family budget. The good outcome, was that we put the money I ws spending and bought an RV, a 24ft travel trailer and spend between 30-50 nights/yr on the road and we all absolutely love it. Once the kids are grown and out, I may resume flying again as I still look up longingly as planes fly over head. Mike

One of my most fun buddies is from South Africa. You must know him: Johann Weber. He worked in New York for a while, did some modeling, also did some running. He ran off to Brazil several years ago, learned Portuguese, and became a journalist there. I miss him. Edited to add: He was from Durban. Hi Dark Horse, I don't know Johann but his name rings a bell - mind you Johann is a very common name. I lived in Pretoria, Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth. The only time we went to Durban was on holiday. Actually one of my buddies was running the comrades marathon which is about 90km's from Durban to Pietermaritzburg or vice versa. There was always huge debate about which direction was worse - the up or the down!!!!!!!! Every year it would inspire me to go out and run, definitely not that far though!!!!

I thought I'd hold out but more than one person asked me if I was a guy, if I was stationed in Iraq, retired military, etc. No disrespect intended. I'm not in the military. I'm not a guy. My handle came from riffing on the theme about "Camelbaks", those water packs you see on cyclists, runners, and hikers.

It has taken me FOREVER to read this whole thread, but didn't want to miss knowing about anyone...what fun! Glad to be part of such an interesting group! I suppose I could make up some great story about my name and how I always slip around or slip up or... but...it's really just my first initial "s" and last name "lipps"...and to think I married into that one! Hey, winejunky... will you be running the Napa Valley Marathon? Love your suggestions for after a race...will have to try them! Cheers!

I really liked this and tried my four kids names out for size. I would have been Jemajoma. Nyet - doesn't sound very masculino. Coshelmu stands alone. Brian
