Please tell me I'm not crazy, but wasn't there a search feature in this forum? With so many great topics in the past it is a great tool

Server issues. Use Google instead. Do your search like this: heart rate site:www.coolrunning.com

A forum without a search feature is useless.Every other forum one could be a member of has that feature. This forum seems to have lots of members and lots of adverts. Why not get a new server?

What is the status here? I know the search function really taxes the server - isn't there a way to offload it using a mirror site? Maybe restrict to cool runners only, to know it's not being used by active posters?

thank you; however, original CR search engine could refine by interest group too. Is there a way to focus a google search to posts in a group? e.g., heart rate site: www/coolrunning.htm. thanks.

Tetsujin:The only workaround I've found is to put the string that identifies the forum in its URL (Boomers is Forum13) in the search. I'm really hoping CR is planning on implementing a more modern forum package soon: software like phpbb is much, much more capable than what's running here.

doublearf - For example, to find the heart rate posts on the B&B Board where would the "Forum13" go. It used to be convenient on the CR search because it had to be done one board at a time but it was removed supposedly because it was being used too much and was too slow but that was never a problem for me. heart rate Forum13 site:www.coolrunning.com

I generally construct a search for (say the B&B forum) like this:barefoot site:www.coolrunning.com/forums/Forum13

I agree "A forum without a search feature is useless." You cant keep up with friends, follow topics or check to see if someone has already asked your question. There is a lot of good information on the site, but you have to be able to find it.

There is an explanation of the problem if you just scroll down a little. I don't think a forum is useless without a search function - a knowledge database, sure, but a forum is exactly what the word means: a place to discuss all manner of things. Discussions can't last forever just as threads drop out of existence here.

I assume you're entering this in the IE address bar, instead of at www.google.com, which has the "site:" search feature that was suggested. Try doing the search at Google instead.

The forums searches were diasabled because they were having a huge and negative on the server's overall performance during peak and sometimes normal loads. We are currently having the forum software converted and re-written to improve performance. This project is a biggie as the running logs are integrated into he forum software and it is taking much longer to complete than was planned. When we are finished the project we will run trials and if all is well, we will re-introduce forum searches firstly at the individual forum level and then across all forums. all the best Kevin M

I understand the server issue, and I understand that there's a work-around using google. But, I've seen websites use google as their search engine, offering a little google search box on their page. Why can't that be set up here?

BUMP! Really need a search feature in the mesage boards. I undersatnd the ways that others have mentioned, but it really is alot easier (and more accessable for the less computer inclined) to have a search function at the top of the baords. Maybe then long-term cool runners wouldn't get as annoyed with the same questions being repeated (What is C25K?, What music should I play? Is it safe to run at night wearing all black through a faternity while I am drunk and wearing shoes that are too small and for supinators and I am a pronantor? Just for examples ) if users could search first (and easier then it is to post). Just an idea....

It is really a shame that this forum does not have the search feature anymore. There are way too many posts and topics to go back to Google every time. I'm going to have to find another forum. (:
