Random useless thoughts for the Grolys:
- June in the wild = mosquitoes. No zesty shampoo + soap within 24H. Yeah
- Do not, I mean DO NOT, talk to cross-eyed banjo players
- A couple of bandanas = great swipers for unexpected pooh in the bush
- Trees no not move. Bears do. RUN.. ROLLY.. RUN !!!
- There are worst ways to spend a weekend, like.... hummm...
- Always remember: nature is your friend

Good luck to the Grolies! Looking forward to catching you both online ... they should put a timing mat right before and just after Mile 31 so we know how long you lingered to shoot back those vodkas ...

Wow ... 50 miles ... For you two, we will definitely need a celebration ... let me know what works best for both of you and where your preference is and I will organize it

All right you mountain men !
Good news ! there are no Grizzly bears in Vermont, only black bears and they take smallers bites and have slightly shorter claws.
Enjoy the vodka at mile 31 !
And if you see a sign saying '' bienvenue au Canada/welcome to Canada'' you're definitively off course.
The mosquitoes might give you an incentive to run faster.
Oh yeah ... Make sure you keep an eye out for the wild vermont beavers, i've heard story about them chopping down trees on runners. Because Roly, i'm really not that keen on having to mow your lawn...
And oh !... one last thing...have fun !!!

Easygo

P.s. for the rest of you have a good weekend.

Thanks everyone, Enjoying the race and having fun is the plan. Just don't ask in the last miles.

The webcast at runrace will probable not be set up for this race, but we will try and keep you posted.

Chops I don't need to out run the bears I have bear spray that is used by hunters to attract the animals, just need to spray a little on Gro and run the other way.

SS it may be a few weeks before I can schedule a night out.

Easygo, I think I may still need you to cut the grass this week.

Truxx, KZ, TB, you can always start training with us for next year.

DR I'll bring back some mud for you and think of you when I'm chowing down at the BBQ.

Df7 don't worry we will enjoy.

Roly

Roly / Gro.....I'll be thinking of you two as I'm sitting on my sofa downing a Guiness.

Roly. They say bear grease works best on Canada's national bird, the mosquito. If you don't believe me, ask the first bear you come across.

Did you say BBQ? That's good enough reason to go sometime...

as a PHOTOGRAPHER!

Whatever they're charring on that BBQ of theirs had better have 4 legs and prey on smaller animals... none of this veggie stuff, or they will have a hoard of hungry muddy men/women willing to chop up human flesh to BBQ...

Back to life after my moving marathon. Sounds more like an ultra actually. So, before going out mowing the lawn, all my thoughts go to the Grolys who are probably having a hell of a good time getting dirty in the mud.

Way to go guys and have fun, fun, fun!

Hot weather for a run today. Fortunately, no humidity. From downtown, headed toward pont de la Concorde by way of the Wellington and Bridge street. Lots of traffic this morning due to the F1 time trials. There were so many people emerging from the metro station that the run was reduced to walk as I made my way through the crowd and headed toward the J-C bridge. I forgot my ballcap and I could feel my head being roasted.

Hope Grommit and Roly are having fun

I wish we could know how the Grolies are doing ... the suspense is killing me! Where are those realtime web updates as promised?

Anyone running on the mountain tomorrow? I'll be there at the monument at 9am ... any takers?

Sally

p.s. No training again for me today ... 6th day of working ... how does one fit it all in ?!?!

That's the way to do it.. I just got back from the 1 hr. run on the trails in the park here.. 1 very little hill, and a long flat trail around the park... Easy, Easy, Easy... water fountains every 15 minutes.. The entire trail was in the shade too.. Pretty nice.
I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend! I will be checking in to see how our racers are doing at the end of the weekend! Bye

I hope it's going well in Vermont for Grommit and Roly... hope the weather is as nice as up here!

Went out for my weekly long run... another first time for me today : 6k... did it in 54 minutes. It's really not fast but I was able to run for almost an hour wich is pretty cool!

But I can honestly say that I should have done it earlier in the day... it was really too hot... now I have a headache... I have to drink way much water before I get on my run!

Have a nice week-end everyone! Any

Alright, I just got in from work ... yes, this late. And since I've had no reponse from anyone for tomorrow, I'm not going to get my tired sorry a$$ up early out of bed tomorrow to find out that I'll be running alone ...

If someone is running later, let me know and I might join you ... ... that is if I've managed to finally crawl out of bed!

Yoohooooo!! Grolies! Did you finish? Are you alive?

"Gary Bennington finished after 17 hours of running the brutal 54 mile course

Roly dropped after a valliant effort and 42 miles. Way to go for his first ultra on the toughest course east of the mississippi!

Lots of folks got lost. One of the locals sabotaged the course and moved marking ribbons."

found this on the ultra/trail running forum...

Can't wait to read the reports! Great job guys!

What? 54 miles? They had an extra 4 miles just for fun?

Congratulations to both of you! Just did my first 11.8 km of Mt-Ste-Anne trail run thinking How can they do it? It's really something. Can't wait to read the reports.

.....huge congrats to Roly, 42 miles of brutality..... way harder than jay/vt50... his knee crapped out him otherwise he would've made it, he was still looking mighty strong.... next year I guess!

Me.... I took it fairly easy, paced well, no problems until the last (hardest/steepest) climb......after dark, I followed the florescent ribbons and ran about 1hr 20mins of the previous climb..... went back down and started again! almost impossible to find the pink ribbons in total darkness, bushwasking up a sheer hill...... at the top there was stars and a view.... and a bag of chips! somebody had left behind..... got back and all the BBQ was gone! had a cold beer... and felt totally sick!

.... so I prolly added about 3 miles at the end...... that's nothing one of the elites got lost and added 3 hours!

later

Roly: You slacker! ... Just kidding Congratulations! We are all so proud of you and you deserve plenty a cold beer. Hope your knee is alright ... those hills are treacherous! 42 miles ... holy crap! VT50 will be a walk in the park after this one ... and Jay Challenge will be more like Jay Stroll next year.

Grommit: Congratulations to you too! Can't believe they had no BBQ left ... something's gonna have to change if they expect participants for next year. Must have been freaky in the dark looking for those ribbons.

Can't wait to read the RR's!

Sally

p.s. LA: Congrats on reaching your 6k milestone ... each one of these additional kilometres you are adding will be equally as big a milestone and we are so proud of you for going out and doing it! Hot weather now ... please be very careful. You might want to think about carrying some sport drink with you ... don't want you to pass out from dehydration or heatstroke.

Just want to add first that Gary is being way to modest. That course was just brutal and less tha 50% completed the race, with most of that group in the elite category trying to win the $2,000 US prize money for each of the first place men's and women's division. The rest who completed had about an avaerage of 7% bodyfat it may have been a lower percentage if Gary wasn't so fat.

I'm am Ok with finishing at mile 42, the mind and energy was there to complete the race, but with an inflamed knee that had me limping the ups and downs over the last 10 miles I just could not see myself limping the last toughest 11 miles in the dark to finish. Yep I wimmped out, you can call me a sissy Gary.

What a F#ckin fantastic race, with all sorts of incredibly freindly and interesting folks. I'm already planning my attempt to finish this monster next year, more crosstraining, weights core work and lots of hills work on Mount-Royal.

Didn't take alot of photos but did manage to snap a few on the course. I'll have them posted shortly.

Grommit, sterling performance, under the nightmarish conditions.
Roly: Valiant effort. No shame in packing it in for the day. Hope the recovery is a speedy one Thanks for the race reports

Thanks SS means a lot. Most memorable part of the race is both Grommit and I heading in to the Aid Station at the same time. Me bagging it at mile 42 and Gro heading out for the last section, the first thing he said to me was. Roly your not allowed to pick the next race.
