Norah Jones is exquisite. She is so utterly talented.I've added a few pics to the Yahoo site. Lifeany and KZ, please join us! I'm a lousy action photographer, I got caught off-guard by all of you arriving so fast! ... And I'm not used to spectating ... weird not to be dressed in sports gear. But it was great seeing you all off ... and really exciting to cheer for the racers, especially when I saw their faces light up at having a spectator on the path. Congratulations to all the racers ... especially LA for her amazing PB, beat even my prediction of 42 min., and also to KZ for his re-entrance into the racing world ... how did you find the shorter distance? So from whom will I be expecting RR's from? Let's see ... TB, LA, KZ, RG, KJ (whom I didn't even know was racing - nice surprise to see you!) ... Merc, did you race? Mrs. Omni, good to see you again, though I didn't recognize you without the belly and in racing gear ... Those shorter distances look gruesome. Some of the racers make the most horrible noises ... I think I will stick to the marathon distance. Sally ------------------ "Follow your bliss" My Ironwoman Inklings

That was painful. I ran conservatively for the kilometres, starting out slowly just like everyone told me to do... good boy. Then I settled into a pace that I maintained until kilometre 7, when I thought I could pick it up all the way to the end. I did 7 to 8 at 30 seconds faster than the other kilometres! And then I almost had an asthma attack. I couldn't breathe anymore! So, the last 2 k's were seriously painful, and I was just happy to finish. For everyone at the arrival, sorry about coughing bits of my lungs on you. Poor form, I know, but I couldn't help myself. Gormmit, can't make it to the mountain today. I'm heading out of town with the family. I'll say it again, though. You're a sick b4stard for running today.

Way to go KZ, saw your time on sportstats you did great.Althought I think giving up a lung for a 10 k race is crazier then a nice long run in the woods. Roly [This message has been edited by rolyone (edited May-13-2007).]

Roly and Gro- awesome work yesterday - how are you feeling today ? Blisters ? Ouch ! Congrats to the racers last evening. Have an excellent day....

Hi DF, Happy mothers day. I had a rabbit run across my path during my morning run this week. I'm feeling pretty fresh this morning but a seemed to have picked up a nasty cough this morning. Hay fever was pretty bad yesterday and lost most of my fluids thru the nose. Breakfast today with my girls, Mom, Sister and her Daughters. then off for lunch with the in-laws. may get in a run or long walk late this afternoon.

Happy Mothers Day to all moms of this group!BTW, I've just noticed that in the 5km run last night, There was 64 women and 46 men. This confirm a trend that women are more and more interested by running. It was also a first ever event for Any and KZ. Afterwards, Any was all smiling, KZ was all coughing, poor him, hope you got better soon after. Congratulations also to KJ and Norm, TB and Mrs Omni, who's back on the track. Thanks to Merc and SS for showing up and cheering for us. It was my first Course du printemps du YMCA and enjoyed it. I like little races. I started slowly, because I didn't trust that hill under Sherbrooke St, so my pace was slower for the first two km. But I picked it up and from 4:20 per km went to 4:00/km for the last downhill 3km. At km 8, I passed Norm without recognizing him, but it gave him the boost to go faster and he finally passed me and 3 other guys to finish in 41:59. Again 7 seconds faster than me. But I still got a PB, the third in a row. Prochain rendez-vous: NCM

I did it... and I am still alive this morning (aching a little but still feeling great). I just added 3 pictures to the yahoo site.Final time : 41:21, wich is a PR for me... best training run was 43:16. Average Pace : 8:17 (never ran faster before). First of all : thanks to everyone that was there to support me... you all gave me some great advices and there is a little bit of all of you in my great result. It meant a lot to know that you were all waiting to know how I did! Thanks also to my cheering croud : Isabelle and Veronique that were great supporters from the beginning of this big adventure! Now to the race report: I was actually a bit nervous before getting to the YMCA. As soon as they gave me my number I was really into it, I was still nervous but it was a good thing! Got changed 3 times, did not know what top to wear. And I was also thinking that I was missing the meeting at Viau's metro station. As soon as I got out of the Y I saw TB, RG and KZ coming towards me... Yeah, at least I did not miss them! Then it was off to the starting line, walked a little, did some stretching. When the race started I was still being hugged by SS for good luck (thanks). I started too fast... but I slowed down really quickly because I knew that THE HILL was coming fast. The other racers were far ahead but I did not mind. Well THE HILL was not that bad afterall, I was tired at the top but I knew that if I was slowing down a little bit more to recover that I would be fine. 1k sign I was at a pace of 8:30 wich is a little faster than usual for me. 2k same pace but my legs were starting to feel tired. 3k, same pace or a little big slower but not by much. I never saw the 4k sign. But at the top of the hill, the volunteers were giving directions to the 10k runners and then she turned to me to give me my direction... the only thing I was thinking was : Don't worry I am not crazy enough to get through another 3k loop!!! I decided to pick up the speed a little in the hill, it was kind of easy to just let myself go downhill. I pushed maybe at 200 meters before the finish line. As I said to Merc... I am dead... I had almost nothing left in me. My legs were not really there at the end... just wanted to finish! The only constant thought with me was trying to pass the men that was in front of me... but he did put a lot of distance between us after the hill... the problem was... he was walking the 5k At one point I was really feeling weird... how slow am I for that guy to be able to beat me... HE'S WALKING. But I have to say he was walking fast! And it wasn't that big of deal because I was going into this knowing that I would probably finish last. Well it seems that I did not... there were other walkers behind me. Thanks again for being there for my graduation... it meant a lot! Any P.S. Ralf - you were right... the hill was not that bad! ------------------ First 5K - 41:21 [This message has been edited by lifeany (edited May-13-2007).] [This message has been edited by lifeany (edited May-13-2007).]

St. Lazare results on Mother's Day were good. First time they dd the race and it is a particularly fast course with only one hill to speak of. As the word gets out, it will prove to be quite popular. On the personal side, I was 7th overall, first in my category in 37:44. Ran a rediculous first kilometer in 3:17 and had to quickly make adjustments and finally hit the 5K mark in 18:20, with plenty left in reserve. Coasted after that and was passed right at the finish line. Quite satisfied. Represents a one minute improvement over St. Therese, thanks mainly to not having to run that long hill. On target for Ottawa for two sub 40- 10K's, back to back. We'll see. Good running last night everyone. Looks like a very scenic run. Too bad it's the day before a Circuit event. The idea of an evening run is appealing though. Ninja, Gag, Knee (and friend) and even Life did very well. I don't KZ. Was he running with Ninja?

Wow great times. I on the other hand had a full day of non running. By the time I got back home and started the neglected work around the house I was too pooped to do anything. I'll get in a hard 5 miles tomorrow. Congrats to all the racers this week-end well done. Later

First race of the new season and it was one I won't soon forget. The last 5km I ran was last August so I was interested in seeing what my conditioning would be like following nine months of non specific training. Similar to RG, this was my first time running the Defi de printemps event hosted by the YMCA. It was nice to see RG, KZ, LifeAny, Merc (Mr. Camera man) KJ, Normand, Mrs Omni, and the best dressed runner who did not run because she had tickets to a concert... RG is was such a social butterfly as he was greeting many of the other runners on site. He should really run for mayor of the city. Such a pretty boy. RG, KZ and myself jogged the first 500m of the course and encounter the long hill. It did not look inviting at all. From RG's map I could see what I was getting myself into my running this undulating course. I met up with several other running mates from the gym as we found our way back to the start line. One of them, Jean is a regular that I run with during our Tuesday track sessions The first km was completed with difficulty and effort. The legs felt sluggish and unresponsive despite proper breathing. Jean was ahead of me by about 5 feet. Prior to the race, my watch was programmed to prompt me when I was within 10 seconds of the programmed pace. Two seconds behind schedule. "Not bad," I thought to myself considering that segment of the course was uphill. With that hill behind me, it felt that I was settling into a comfortable pace and rhythm. Much to my surprise, I was 6 seconds behind the intended pace. Jean was still ahead by no more than 5 feet. In the third km, the course flattened out and I began to accelerate. Completion of this kilometer was spot on with what I had budgeted. At this point, I was ahead of Jean and could not hear him. This proved to be my undoing as that pace proved to be beyond my capacity. Arrival at the 4 km mark was 21 seconds behind pace. At this point, Jean had not only covered the deficit but ended up surpassing me by several meters. My breathing was quick and shallow as I reacted in frustration considering this segment was downhill. My body was riddled with fatigue (as seen in the pictures) This was reminiscent of the other times I had run events. Start too fast, fade in the middle and try to recover in the end while suffering all the way. The final kilometer was a steep decline which explained the success realised as it was completed in the time originally budgeted. Jean was beginning to fade and was within arms reach. We were side by side as we past the start line and negotiated the final turn toward the finish line. However the tactical error in the third kilometer doomed me to failure as I was unable to respond to Jean's surge to the finish line. Jean completed 2 seconds ahead of me. With the first event behind me, I have current times that will be used to establish proper pacing for subsequent events. I lost the speed that I had last summer as a result of marathon training. That did not come as a surprise to me. However, what proves to be the most frustrating is the inability to adhere to a consistent pace which resulted in poor execution. I tell myself that had I slowed down in the third kilometer, despite Jean having a wider lead ahead of me going into the 4km mark, I would have been able to tap into a reserve to challenge and respond to his surge. Next event: Pierrefonds 5km June 2 TB - "Follow your blister" 20:42

Did someone say Green Mountain Marathon in October ?! Just got in from a romp around the hood, way overdressed, very hoomid.. smell of lilacs and dogwood (?)... Left the house with a slow waddle in mind, turned out to be faster cauze some young thing mindin' his own buziness passed me on my way and I "chased" him for a while..well, tried to keep him in my line of vision, he he then when he turned off into an area I didn't know I figured it was time to slow down - NOT. Oh well, it was fun. Sally, sending you hugs, careful on the road. DR - how is the knee ? Truxx - u running these days ?
