Actually saw the reason for it at the race. The average half-marathoners, which started at 8, were strung out across the road, and the fastest 5k runners, which started at 8:30, were approaching from behind as we neared the spot where the routes diverged. One guy with headphones couldn't hear the escorts approaching from behind and nearly got run over by the escort bikes and runners when he didn't move to the half-marathoners side of the road. Guess it makes sense. Kudos on the race overall. That was a nice course; the first half was pretty much all flat and ran through nice residential sections and two parks. Most of the second half was along the Tar River Greenway and through some parking lots adjoining the ball fields. Great number of volunteers, plenty of aid stations, and great t-shirts; the gummi bear aid station was great! :-) And of course the weather was great, too. I hope the folks in Charlotte had as great a run! Brad Isaiah 40:31

Here is my race report from the Charlotte Thunder Road Marathon. I didn't BQ but I still felt pretty good about a 3:20:40 for a 38 minute PR.http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/Forum8/HTML/010874.shtml ------------------ My Profile

JDF - Congrats!! I'm glad the marathon was so much better this time. You are in much better shape this year, plus you have another year of experience as a runner. You have come a long ways and I think you will get that BQ soon. : )

Travis -Congrats on the marathon. That's a massive PR. Take your time recovering. I used a 5 week recovery schedule out of Advanced Marathoning (btw, I highly recommend that book if you don't already have it). I hope as well that your wife feels better soon. I think you just need to put in a few more mpw and you'll hit your BQ easily. BTW, I'm not sure if you're aware of this but the Garmin has an auto-lap feature. I set mine to 1 mile. I know the Garmin isn't perfect mileage wise, but then again, the split markers along race courses are also often not quite correct. j.

Thanks Jay and Bit. I felt much better about my run this year. I know once I get some real training in I will be in much better shape. Bit, You still are the freaking woman! I was close to your time but not quite. Keep it up. Jay, Yea I always use the auto lap on training runs. However, I wanted to get accurate splits(According to the course not what I had run) for the marathon. You always end up running more than 26.2 so I wanted to know exactly how much farther I was running for each split. I think I will probably use the auto lap for all future races though. I was only .2 miles longer than 26.2 for the whole race. In the end it is just easier to use the autolap. What is your next race? You are still looking for that BQ as well right? ------------------ My Profile

I thought I memorized the URL that was on the flyer to find out more about it and see if they had identified a course, but the URL I memorized doesn't mention anything about it or have it on their '08 schedule. Anybody else see the flyer or remember what it was promoting? Curiosity has the best of me. :-)
Found the info in an ad in the new Endurance magazine: Capital City Classic 10k April 19, 2008 "Raleigh's Signature Running Event" - Unparalleled race day amenities - Family-oriented entertainment - Incredible t-shirt - Joan Nesbit Mabe "signature race course" (I guess if you can have signature golf courses, you can have signature running courses) - Joan was a 1996 track and field Olympian and coached cross-country at UNC, her alma mater, noted masters runner - Limited to 1,000 runners - Registration opens Christmas Day on activezach.com The artwork for the ad is ghostly running figures in the sky above the Raleigh skyline. For a "signature" event that opens for registration in two weeks, they do not seem to be doing a very good job. There is NOTHING to be found on the web the best I can tell. I might just be "google challenged", but I normally can find just about anything. The race sounds interesting, so I would like to find out more.
