Travis, very sorry to hear about your wife's borken leg. I wish her a speedy recovery. Double stroller and bigger kids on a longer race--sounds good.

Tirangle Triathlon July 8th for me. I'm just about ready. I have increased my runs and trying to get some speed back. The swim is longer than my last tri, and being in lake Crabtree, will be tougher for me.

I am sorry to hear about your wife's injury. She was becoming such a fast runner. I hope her recovery is as speedy as her race times! I have been looking at some long range weather forcasts. It looks like July 4th might be a little cooler than usual. I hope.

Yea my wife is really torn up about not running. She had made unbelievable progress(Puts my progress last year to shame) and then the injury. She is out for a long time but she still gets in some good workouts on the stationary bike and in the pool. She will be back in the fall and she will be ready to take on the competition then.

I haven’t done as much running as I thought I was going to do. Since it is warm I have been running with the stroller again though. I swear I am much faster with the stroller than without it. I did 4 miles and then 6.2 miles with both kids this weekend. I was right on my solo running pace on everything but the steepest hills and on the downhills I was actually considerably faster. Hopefully I can get enough runs in by next week to get me back into shape.

See you at the races.

Any groups or others that are running the City of the Oaks marathon do any training runs together? New to the area this spring, run 70 miles a week 51 YO hoping to run in the 3:45 time frame, the under 3 hour days are done for me. Live down in Fuquay, but will travel to run with others.

Here is a better map of the race on Wednesday. The first 2.5 miles is tough the last 3.5 miles is VERY downhill. If you get back on Hillsborough street and you have something left you better just kick it in and hang on. This could be a very fast course if you can make it up that hill and still be on pace. This is the ideal course for the stroller because there are no steep hills and there is a really long downhill. I plan on really tearing it up on the home stretch!. See you guys there.

http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1095940

I am going to try to do the Oaks marathon but I am afraid my training just has not been there lately. I have some good routes along Cary Parkway and into Umstead if you want to get together for a long run on the weekends. I usually leave at 5:10-5:30 AM to try to escape the heat.

The race is being sponsored by Raleigh Running Outfitters (on Six Forks) so I would ask there about any groups as they have group runs already established.

I did the Wilmington Tri-Span 10K on Saturday. I posted a report on my blog (www.lafrider.com). It was a good race but hot and humid and very hard because of those factors. The novelty of running over the bridges got me to go and they didn't disappoint.

Anyone that's running the City of Oaks Marathon (or any other Nov 4th marathon) that wants to use the Pfitz 55x18 plan, I've published it in iCal format here:

http://ical.mac.com/jaysoffian/Pfitz%2055%20x%2018

If you're interested, I've also got all six plans (12/18/24 for 55 mi and 70 mi) setup so that I can easily produce calendars for any race date. Lemme know and I can publish those as requested.

Keep in mind that these plans are Copyright © Peter D. Pfitzinger and Scott M. Douglas and you shouldn't use them w/o reading Advanced Marathoning first.

Hey Bob, congrats on the Tri. I haven't been running much since last Oct, just off an on due to injury originally, then just a lot of work. Sigh.

I decided to jump back into things and see if I can't get ready for the City of Oaks marathon ... I'm not too excited about the course, but hey, can't pass up a local marathon.

I'm going to give the Pfitz 55 mile 18 week schedule a shot and see what happens. If I'm still feeling good over the next 4-6 weeks, I'll register for City of Oaks. So far, so good.

I plan to do my 14 miler Sunday at Umstead. I'll probably start at N Cary Park and run into Umstead then west gate to east gate and back to N Cary Park. That's a little shy of 14, so I'll just double back once or twice to get in the extra half mile or so I need.

My plan is to run somewhere in the 9-10 minute/mi range if anyone wants to join. I'll probably start around 7:00 AM.

Jay,

I might be up for a long run on Sunday. Just let me know what time you will get to the park and where you will be exactly. Is the Cary Park entrance the one off of old reedy creek parkway(Near Weston parkway and the lake?)? I will be running from my house up to Umstead so I have to get 7 miles in before I get there.

I have been eyeing the second empire series races so my training has actually been geared toward the shorter races(2nd empire is now 6 5Ks with one 1 mile race). However, I hope to do the Raleigh Marathon also.

I have actually joined a fitness gym for the first time since my son was born. My work now pays for it so it was a no brainer. My hope is to get some of the strength training that I have not done in the last 4 years.

I have only been a member at the gym for 2 weeks but I am already seeing HUGE benefits from it. I have dropped 2 minutes on my 5K time(I wasn’t in peak shape to begin with) and I have gotten back into the weight lifting faster than I thought.

My hopes are to will my way through the Mile run that starts the season and then try to work up through the longer distances. This is going to be an interesting season. Competing through every single distance(1 mile, 5K, 8K, 10K, 10 Mile, Half Marathon, and Marathon). If I make it through this one then maybe I will take a season off! Probably not though.

See you guys at the races!

Travis,

I ran 14 miles last weekend actually. This weekend it's 15. I'm going to run the same route though. North Cary Park is this one:

http://townofcary.org/depts/prdept/parks/north.htm

It connects right to the greenway. I'll be there at 7:30, maybe earlier if it looks like it's going to be hot. I'll post again on Saturday.

Jay, I will be running right past the park between 7:00 and 7:30 AM on Sunday. We can meet up then. It is 6 miles from my house to that park so I might have to cut out before the end of your 15 miles since I have to run those 6 Hilly miles back home also. I work next to park so I usually stash some water near there on Friday’s.

I also might just drive over to the park so I can do the full 15 miles with you. Just post on Saturday and I will let you know what I am going to do.

Travis,

I'd like to start at 7:00 am given tomorrows temps. If you'll be running, I can meet you down by the bridge that crosses over the creek from the park to greenway. This is just north of where the greenway passes Cary Parkway. That way you don't have to run up the hill into the park. I can wait for you down there till 7:10 or so since I know it's hard to time a run perfectly.

If you'll be driving, we can just meet at the front of the park, near the restrooms.

A third person (co-worker) may be joining us.

The route I plan to take is greenway to West Gate to East (Trenton Rd) Gate, then back. On the way back, I'll detour out and back on Graylyn to the point where it intersects with N Turkey Creek. According to gmaps-pedometer that's right about 15 miles.

Jay,

I will meet you at the trail junction just below Weston parkway. It is just before the 15 mile marker on your course mapping. I will be there at 7:00 AM and I will wait on the trail path under Weston until about 7:20 AM. Don't wait for me I will try to catch you if I don't see you on the trail below Weston. If I don't see you by that time then I will just figure that you got started early or later. Anyway, I am sure we will meet up on the course if we don't see each other there.

I work at the top of that hill on Weston so I will refill my water before I start onto the trail. Do you run with water or is there a place you stop to get some?

See you tomorrow.

See you tomorrow at 7:00. I don't run w/water. I hate carrying anything. I'll just make good use of the two water fountains along the route.

Silly me, I was just out there on bike today, I should've stashed water. Oh well.

We had a good run on the Umstead trail on Sunday. I enjoyed running with you guys. We should try to get a bigger group next time.

I ran the 7 miles from my house to the start of the Umstead trail under Weston. I met Jay and one of his friends there and we started running up to where the trail meets Harrison. There were a ton of people out there. We saw all of the Raleigh Road runners burning up the trail also.

It felt like we held a pretty good pace considering it is almost totally uphill going out. I know I have been sore the last couple of days. Jay are you sore at all? I had to cut out at Reedy Creek on the way back. I had totally run out of water and I was dragging a bit. I headed up the steep long hill at Reedy Creek at a snails pace. However, I got to see the Kenyans bounding down that hill like gazelles. Man those guys make it look effortless. I was pretty much done after I had completed the 15 miles.

Thanks for inviting me to run with you all. We should do it again sometime.

My legs were a bit dead yesterday, but not really too sore. Yesterday was a rest day for me though. I'm doing a tempo run tonight, so ask me how I feel tomorrow. :-)

I tried to run at MP from the airport lookout back to N Cary Park (I like to do the last 1/3 or 1/4 of my long runs at MP). I think this is about 3.25 miles and it took me 26 minutes, so that's right about MP (8:00 min/mi) for me. It wasn't evenly paced though. I ran pretty fast to the greenway and then my quads just totally gave out on me on the greenway.

I'm planning on doing 17 miles, similar route, this weekend. I might do it on Saturday instead of Sunday. I'd love to have the company again.

As far as getting more folks, there appears to be a pretty sizable meetup group that runs in Umstead. Maybe we could rope some of those folks in (I don't have a meetup login/id though).
