Patti's snoozin' so I get the honours of starting this year's thread

Happy 2007 everyone!

I was planning on doing a 2 hour run today, but the weather was so nice I opted to scope out any local races and moseyed down to the beaches for the Balmy Beach Club's Hair of the Dog 9k. Aurang was there as well, I figured he would be since he ran it last year.

I did okay, with a minute and a half neg split courtesy of the brisk s/w wind cutting across the lake. Not sure what my position was. I counted 13 people ahead of me at the turn and I know I passed at least one person on the way back. So maybe 13th place, I dunno. 37:49 for time. I had spanking new shorts on and a l/s tech T. It was bright and sunny at the start, very comfortable. I think anyone with more than 1 layer on was cursing their decision on the return leg, it was pretty warm. Not bad for Jan 1.

Aurang did great, he can give his own story. I can tell you he was in 5th place (I believe) at the turn.

Hey Jim, good run today. I think you'll win a few prizes this year. I was second, actually. It was really windy on the out portion, so I really didn't want to go out too hard. Three guys went out hard with the winner, who just wasn't going to be caught, so I picked them off one by one coming back. The awards were really nice, I picked up a long-sleeved T-shirt from Adidas.

It's a good, profitable start to the year. Happy New Year, everyone. Make this the year you get to Boston, break 20 for 5k or post 20 times a day in the Clubhouse.

Well, don't I feel silly posting after a couple of guys who posted times like that in a 9k race... I'd have been lucky to break an hour!!

But, for better or for worse I seem to have my running groove back on. I'm learning to embrace solo long runs (though to date my longest "long run" solo has been 14k. )

I'm going great guns on the ATB training - using the schedule that was posted on the ATB website. Really looking forward to getting back into the swing of things this year. Of course it's all relative - I certainly won't be setting the world on fire. But it is just nice to think of myself as a "runner" again after so much time just not feeling it.

Happy New Year Ontarians!

Hah... but you were second. I don't care what age group you are in... that's smokin' fast in my books.

Is anyone planning on doing ATB? I've got JC and Patti suckered into a long run or two on the course with me.

HNY everyone.

My resolution was to run every day this year.

I broke it today.

Actually I had a good run yesterday and knew I'd be in no shape to run today. Maybe tomorrow...or maybe not.

Happy New Year Everyone,

I gave a quick thought of going to the Hair of the Dog this year, but it didn't last long and I ended up sleeping in till NOON!

Was at a friend's get together till just before 1am and didn't get to bed till 2am.

Managed to get in 11K in the afternoon, and I was in old spankin' shorts and a long sleeve tee.

Good work Jim and Aurang.

Hopefully I will see everyone at the ATB. Probably will be doing the Chilly Half in Burlington too.

I'm not sure I'd finish the Chilly Half before the start of ATB.

Happy New Year everyone! I could not handle the pressure of starting this thread any longer so yeah!! Jim.

Nice runs aurang and Jim. I am with you RioG - I only go that fast in my car! Shorts on New Years Day - amazing!

Busy few days - I had a New Years bash here then off bright early yesterday to collect my wee nephew from the wayward sis to visit my mom. Nice day but no run. Heading out now as I am still off until Thursday.

Ran 13k Sunday and tried out my new, upgraded Garmin Forerunner 305. I like it a lot better than the old 301 as it sits better on the wrist. Track work starts Thursday night.

I knew you'd do that, that's why I went...one less person to finish ahead of me

Maybe next year I'll pause a the peach shnapps stop at the spit, which might be easier to do than to say three times fast.

Yeah but the end of the Chilly Half is close to the 17K mark of the ATB. Think of the head start you'll get!

The Chilly Half might need to be renamed - my plants are coming up in the garden, my window box herbs are growing again, there arebuds on some of my trees....what happens if we get a real cold spell? Great for running however!

I'm considering the Chilly to see where I'm at. Running with no foot pain for the last few weeks

Good point, they are just down the road from one another.

If you will bring my chip from the start of ATB I'll try to arrange a meeting where it turns onto North Shore Drive.

If you get there before I am able (I do have a 3 week head start though) just leave it by the side of the road. I'm sure I'll find it.

Happy New Year, everyone! Just got back from a week in Boston. It was as warm there as it was here. Had a nice visit with my family, but it's also good to be home.

I'm also thinking of doing either the Chilly Half or ATB (or both?). I've never done a race in winter before, but I really want to do something before my first race in May.

I have to mow and weed my lawn this weekend. There's dandelions popping up everywhere.

Maybe for safety sake I'll better leave it at the emergency ward desk of Joseph Brant Hospital! ;D

Ran in the rain tonight in shorts and a t-shirt. I love those warm summer rains.

Better get ready though folks...it's going down to FOUR.

So I should use my long sleeve instead?

7 1/2 easy miles this morning. That's 12k for your northerners.

The War of Northern Aggression was so long ago, can't we just let bygones be bygones?

I count each day's runs in miles, think of pace in miles, and I'd race in miles if races worked like that, but I talk about my mileage in kilometres.

I do everything in km's - sounds like I've gone further

8 k this morning, 15 tomorrow. Training has started - 18 weeks to go. If we have April weather in January, does that mean we'll have August weather in May? Hope not!

I think my roses may bloom - they are looking pretty perky for mid-January.

Yeah, but miles are easier to count. You can also use minutes per mile as a rough estimate of pace that isn't really possible with 4:45 kilometres.

I think we will, unfortunately. This winter is just eerie.

Nice job at Hair of the Dog, aurang and JimR! I was cursing the extra layer by about 1K, actually. Finished well behind both of you, around 45:39.

Happy New Year, Ontario Runners! I'll be at the Chilly, ATB and Ottawa this spring.

I got a 50 mile week in to start the year. That's enough of those, they're too exhausting.

There's results up for hair of the dog in an Excel spreadsheet. Bib #'s only, to protect my precious anonymity.
