Just checking in to say BBBBRRRRRRR!!!!!! Doing my long run on the t/m today because I'm too much of a wimp to go outside. Luckily it's only 1:10 right now, so that's probably do-able.

I've been doing 15 - 20k on the regular in these freezing temps. And I can't do it no more... Vital parts are freezing off. Just wondering if anyone has info on some of the indoor tracks / running rooms in Toronto, Scarborough, or Markham? and if possible with the distance the track covers.

There's a small indoor track at the North York YMCA. I was a member there a few years ago. I think it was something like 12 laps to the mile?? There are indoor tracks at U of T and York. The U of T one is probably 250 to 300 meters around, but I don't know exactly. Not sure if you have to be a member or if you can pay a daily price.

It's this persistent unabating wind that's the problem. I can deal with the cold, I'm not so good when it's presented to me at 30 - 40 miles an hour.I've moved some of my runs to afternoons and after work. Timing in the mornings means I'd have to get up waaaay early to get them in, and it hasn't been pleasant out there in the AMs. At least the sun is out at noon and I can squeeze a few miles in at lunch. After work, colder but not so bad. I've got to get in 5 this evening and figure out a way of doing 10 tomorrow.

Most real indoor tracks are 200 metres. There's one at U of T (Harbord/Spadina), York University and Variety Village (somewhere near Warden station). Others can be various lengths. Smaller tracks can be 7 laps to a kilometre or 12 to a mile (142 or 145 metres), 142 being the length of the track at Hart House, also on the U of T campus. You'll find these smaller tracks all around the city. The downtown YMCA has one such small track. You'll lose your mind on a small track, so I'd suggest a treadmill, a 200-metre track or just keeping it up oustide.

Jim, I agree the wind has been brutal and I'm not even trying to run in it! Funny, yesterday and today felt down right balmy - I mean it was a very warm -4! My running has not happened this week - its the craziest week of the year as we table the budget - about another week of craziness then things start to return to a sane pace. Not too worried - still 13 weeks but I can't let the runs slide this week.Hope everyone else is doing well. Patti

Ah, I'm puttering along. I did a two hour run yesterday, not all the far, just trying to get time in. It looks like we've got another week of this kind of weather and then it breaks.Patti, you've got to get your runs in or kiss your attempt goodbye...at least for the spring.

Jim, I know, boy do I know! And I need the push! I was back on track this weekend, although still TM. Luckily, per my program my long runs are still around 22K. I'm trying to balance it all, really, really want my goal and not trying to make excuses. My priorities have always been boy first, work second, then me aka running. Works crazy, ex not reliable lately so 100% parental responsibily, so I'm struggling a bit. After this week work becomes more managable and still 12 weeks to Mississauga/ 14 to Ottawa. Not giving up yet!Shovels ready everyone? I'll beleive it when I see it but I really would enjoy a really nasty storm - its winter! Patti

All you can do is manage your priorities and fit in what you can...don't go burning out over a race, it ain't worth it.That was one cold run this morning. Garbage day (recycle, actually) so I didn't have much time after hauling everything to the curb. I hadn't realized how cold it was out, and I'm poking along thinking "man, this is rather nippy". Tomorrow should be a challenging one, scheduled short hill repeats...in a foot of new snow.

I had the flu on my cruise for 24 hours and after that I felt fine, but my stomach was a trifle unsettled the few times I tried to run. Just decided to shut it down till I got home...tomorrow I think it will be on the magic carpet.

Hope you are feeling better Cruises should be about totally relaxing anyway. Two weeks of not meeting my training plan but not a total loss. Running on the TM but not the workouts I'm suppose to do - purely maintenance. Looks like we will have warm temps by the end of next week - saw one forecast saying we will be up to 9C - maybe I was dreaming. Repairs on the house start tomorrow.......should be fun but in two weeks it will be beautiful! Hope everyone is well and running! Patti

What happened to the warming trend we were supposed to get this week? It was -15 when I got up this morning! I haven't done an outside workout in 4 weeks!! Getting lots of time on the trainer and treadmill, though.I did my long ride on Saturday with a slow leak in my tire on the trainer. I was too lazy to change the tire before my workout, so I just hopped off every 30 minutes and pumped it up! I guess I'd better change it before my ride tomorrow. I hate changing tires - especially the back one.

Cold still, yeah, but no wind makes a big difference. They show it'll be +2 overnight.A chilly 15 miles yesterday across Bloor. It was colder downtown then back in my area with the wind buffetting through the buildings.

Thanks for the input everyone much appreciated... I think I agree with going insane doing a track gonna bear with the cold and continue the outside runnin. Put on numerous layers and a face mask... that wind is brutal...Let u know when I get them frostbites.

Its going to be warmer for the next few days Dawn - then it will get very wet I'm tired of winter, but I did manage to run the last three days in a row - on the TM of course, for a total of 36k. Registering for Chicago again - a group going, and not waiting as its the 30th year. Spring is not a write off yet, but I loved Chicago, and want to run it without the 15 minute walk to the start line! Back on my plan, we'll see how the next few weeks play out. A gentleman in my group who missed Boston by 3 mins last fall at Columbus ran Myrtle Beach last weekend - PB at 32 mins but still missed it. I don't want them to change the women's qualifying times (self interest rampant!) but the 30 minute differental by age category doesn't seem right. I think its much harder for men to qualify than women - but maybe its payback because life is just generally harder for women Pot stirring is fun Patti

The weather is *lovely* today. What a nice break!!I've always thought that it's easier for a woman to BQ than a man. I think the differential should be 20 minutes instead of 30. Gotta finally change my tire for my ride today. I have a 1:15 hard ride with a 45 min run following. Tuesdays are tough workouts, but I enjoy them more than the easy days.

Hey Folks,Looks like everyone is doing well. I must admit I wish I could be complaining of about running in the cold - the latest on my knee is that I have a MRI scheduled for March 16 (at 1:15am!). The current thought is that I may have a torn meniscus - the question is the extent of it. I now have an elliptical machine so at least I have resumed some cardo. I think I will hold-off on the running until I get the MRI results. Best wishes for everyone’s spring training and races - I will likely be out to cheer on the racers at the Spring Run-Off so perhaps I will see some of you. Cheers, HPG

Sounds kinda rough, Craig. Let's hope the damage isn't too bad in there.Nice out today. I moved my run to this aft since I have limited time in the mornings these days. I did 40 minutes worth around the block here at the office, a quarter shy of 5 miles.

Whoo Hoo! Finally some great running weather. Did a nice 7K Tempo last night and slogged through a bright and sunny 8K this morning. Just not enough recovery time between a hard evening run and another run less than 12 hours later.HPG, hope the scan doesn't turn up any big problems. Patti, did you manage to get outside and off the dreadmill for a workout? Might be re-evaluating my choice of marathon this year from Oaklahoma City April 29th to Halifax May 20th this spring.

Hi AllNo, Eddie, despite how great the weather has been, I'd not get a chance to get off the Dreadmill re running, parenting or work yet, but have logged my required training so far this week on the TM. But the future is brighter - it might mean a June marathon ( there's one in Manitoba ......)or a feally good half this spring. Disappointed but I should have remembered this is not a good time - must be age related memory loss or unrealistic expectations. Craig, I hope the outcome is positive and you are running in the near future. Can you do spinning - if so, based on the few times I have done it, its a much better cardio workout than the elliptical. Okay, I'm dense - is MiniMe JC or aurang - since they work at running room in ontario.......or one and the same........ Patti
