Thanks for the greetings.

Ya, Jim it is funny how when I was running 40-50 miles wk and ran 3 marthons in 13 months I had no injuries then when I build-up slowly to 5 mi 5 times/week I get injured - oh, well.

I started my new regime this morning ~ 2 min. running and 1 min. walking for a total of 20 min. I get to do this every-other-day! If it feels ok after a week then I can go two days on and one day off - but I am not suppose to increase total time until I am given the ok. - ugh. It is a start.

HPG

Patti - sorry to here about the "flood" hope all works out ok.

Patti - that's horrible about the leak in your house! I hope you were able to fix it up easily.

Jim - I have been tempted to take a dip in Taylor Creek a few times on hot days. It looks so refreshing when the dogs go for a dip, but then I realize that I would probably contract something that I'd rather not think about. :P

Oooh, so sorry to hear about the leaking water at your house Patti, but if you let it drip a lot more, Dawn could use your basement as a swimming pool and forgo swimming in Taylor Creek.

I never thought of that! Would have helped Dawn with her "dogding" skills swimming around all the floating furniture

Well its not good, but it could be worse. I feel like I'm living inside a jet engine - the insurance company sent in a restoration guy and I have three to four huge fans on every level going full speed - for another three days . All the carpet on the third and second floor has to be replaced, huge pieces of drywall have been removed in Zak's room and my living room ceiling.......On the positive side I might be able to get the house painted in a different colour than builder white, and instead of carpet I might be able to swing laminate for my room. Two weeks of mess, dust might not be worth it but what can you do .

No run today - can't wait to get out tomorrow - AWAY FROM THE NOISE!!!!

Oh, I'm with you... I am TERRIFIED to run outside!! I joined the Y, so that is helping. Trouble is the time limits they have on the treadmills... Wednesday night is my night for hill repeats... I figured out how to do them on the TM, but as soon as my 30 min. limit was up I kept looking furtively over my shoulder, expecting someone to come over and yell at me for still being on it. After 40 minutes I couldn't take the stress anymore and got off.

I was told that as long as no one was waiting it was okay to use them as long as you want, but I'm not sure they would be very appreciate of me doing my long runs on them. I missed my 14k last week, so it is doubly important to get out there for my 16k this week.

Otherwise I'm happy to see the snow. I'll take that over the stinking mud anyday.

Oh yikes, Patti, just read about the leak. Are you in a new house? Is it going to be covered?

I've been watching too much Holmes on Homes... I just immediately assume all new builds in the TO area are garbage and that everyone ends up with horror stories. I hope you're not one of the horror stories!!

I'm getting a bit sick of "the code says____ but I do twice as much because I wear coveralls with no shirt"

Come to think of it, my home was really well built in 1993. There were a few minor fixes and one MAJOR one...seems they neglected to connect the shower drain in the master bedroom to the drain pipe.

It surely didn't take us long to find out.

Half the people running out of Port Credit RR are triathletes and they keep bugging me. I tell them I might go that route when I'm 60. They all say the training seems easier on their bodies...well except for the three who drowned in the pool.

Ran 17K today at a pedestrian pace...however I do believe I may be capable of a sub 24 hour half marathon in March.

Appears my builder isn't one of the best but the leak was a toilet malfunction.....builder's not responsible. All he has to do is supply a toilet and if it craps (excuse the pun) out he's not responsible, since I've been here a year and 1/2. My insurance isn't questioning it, but the builder did show up last night offering to give me a new toilet.....

How about an eposide of "What Not to Wear" featuring Mike Holmes. He grate my nerves a bit.

10k today on my warm treadmill. 19k tomorrow outside.

Anyone close to downtown Oakville might want to check out the Running Company. There was a fire in the building two floors above the store, and looks like he's moving. Everything is 40-50% off, including all the shoes and SOCKS which never go on sale. Smells a bit smoky in the store but the merchandise is not damaged. Got my shoes and four pairs of socks today.

Hey Patti - isn't it likely it isn't the toilet at all but rather how he toilet is seated?

We had problems with our (new toilet, 150 year old house) as well - just a small leak but it was a pain to fix. After three attempts and some creative usage of the wax seal thingy we finally fixed it, but I learned a whole lot about toilet plumbing along the way.

16k today... at least I hope it was 16... I just added what felt like 2k to my usual 14k route (at least I know that one is 14k - it's the route for the River Road Run here in town).

What an awesome day. Scads of geese on the river, I saw a blue heron (not unusual) a Belted Kingfisher (my first!) and a very large hawk screamed at me 4 times from his/her perch before deciding to move on. And I discovered an awesome new hill for when I'm feeling energetic.

It was just a great run. I'm actually enjoying my solo (with the dog) long runs. They are not nearly as long and painful as I thought they would be.

Running on the snow though... yowza. That is an incredible workout that I had (blissfully) forgotten all about. So even if my 16k was a bit short I figure the snow more than made up for it.

Happy Monday all! How's the toilet Patti?

Sounds like a great run, Robyn. The toilet is fine and I'm becoming accustomed to the holes in my walls. They took most of the fans away today -still some on the first floor where I have hardwood - trying to make sure it doesn't warp.

I squeezed in 19k yesterday, longest I've gone since Chicago, and I feel it but the foot is fine. Fingers crossed and rolling on my foamy to make sure it stays that way. Program calls for 8k in the morning, likely on the TM. My coach is "A okay" with treadmills - just keep the elevation up a bit. I know the TM is easier, as I can run at a pace at least 20 secs per km faster, but with work and other crap, just running my required runs per the plan is the most important part. I get outside twice a week with track and long runs. A girls gotta do what a .......although I really want early January weather back!

Patti

Edited as I was rushing to see 24!

Hey everyone. We were dropping down the page so I thought I'd better post something. I'm almost done with my swim course. Things are starting to come together. I haven't done any real swimming yet, but my position in the water feels really good.

I also went to a Level 1 Basketball Coaching clinic on Sunday. It wasn't that great, but I got some good ideas, so it was worth it. Looking forward to next season now. I coach my daughter's team and they play in the fall. Right now I'm coaching her volleyball team. So far, they're undefeated, but the tough teams are coming next week.

We'll call you 'coach Dawn' from now on.

I ditched my long run on Sunday cuz I was busy doing stuff in my basement all day. Yesterday my knee felt a bit wonky after my run, but was fine today. I blame it on missing a run.

Cheap(er) pre-reg for the ATB (55 bucks) is to Feb 4th, after that it's 60 and then 70 to run. The field is capped at 5200 runners.

Speaking of Race Caps, the Chilly Half Marathon is now full, though they're compiling a wait list.

Made it through a slow 11K this morning before the temperature started to drop. Tommorrow morning's run is gonna be a frosty one.

Oh, thank you for the reminder... must. stop. procrastinating!

5k on the treadmill at the Y this morning... tonight I will do the hill repeats that I missed last night because I was busy playing with my horse... got a new saddle for her and had to try it out!

I've decided I hate the gym... a necessary evil, but it sucks. I swear they keep the heat at 80 degrees in there!

I thought this morning was pretty comfy. As long as the wind is down, I'm happy. I did have a big icicle hanging off my hair that looked like I was wearing a giant earring. I'll go this evening again as I was short on time this morning. Tomorrow is definitely a cold one but I think Sunday's gonna be the real deep freeze.

I agree. This morning's run was pretty comfy since I did it on the t/m!! Today is long run day, but luckily my long run is only at 60 minutes right now.

Got a bad code in my node so I'm not rudding fo a couple of days.

Holy crackinoly it's cold out there. I'm hoping it clears up as I'm supposed to do 18K on Saturday.

The Chilly was half full 10 days ago and it filled it very fast. I'm betting a bunch of people will quickly register for ATB and at 5200 it will likely be full soon.

I think I may pass on the Chilly...I can get an RR # if I want, but I might just run 15K of it with a friend who's registered.

I do want to "run" ATB, but I bet it's going to be a bit of a death march...However I am 12 pounds lighter so maybe I can now hope to finish before dark.

Comfy??? I'm a wus, I know, I know! I skipped the outdoor workout tonight with my group despite a very guilt invoking e-mail from the coach about "how we need to be out supporting one another". Ran a nice warm 11k tempo on the TM. My Catholic guilt didn't win for once . I might be sorry come May 13th but I'm not frozen

My group is planning to do the Grimsby half rather than the Chilly. I won't be at the Bay as my son and I are going to see the Phantom that day.

Patti

I'm supposed to do 30k in the morning. I might make an early stop to buy a balaclava. After that, I'll probably make a stop to buy some baklava.

Well, my knee did not respond well to two run-walk days in row (Sunday-Monday) so I have spent the week recovering with stretches, strength exercises and physio/chiro. I will try the run-walk again tomorrow and then stick to every-other-day. I am very frustrated but will give it a few more weeks before pursuing other options.

I am jealous to here of everyone’s race plans. The ATB must be my all time favourite run. Strep – I think Grimsby course is good and a very well run event - I recorded by best ˝ time there a few years back. Hey Dawn – think it is very cool you are doing tri’s, are you also planning an ironman?

A good weekend to all. Cheers, HPG.

Yes, I am planning an Ironman this year. I've signed up for Lake Placid in July. Yikes! This is probably the triathlete in me coming out, but you might want to think about swimming while you're recovering from your injury. I had 2 weeks where I couldn't run. I swam every day instead (usually only swim twice a week). When I came back from the injury I was running faster than before. Running fitness doesn't translate well into the pool, but I really think that swimming fitness translates well into running. The only problem might be leg strength, but your aerobic capacity will be wonderful.

Aurang - that's a pretty long run this early in the season. Are you prepping for ATB? Enjoy the baklava!!

No, I'm doing the Mississauga Marathon. I guess everyone's going for it this year: I'm doing a marathon, you're doing an Ironman (it's actually IRONMAN) and JC is running.

I just got some mail from the Canada Running Series. You can check me out on the brochure for the Spring Run-Off, the second race brochure I've ever made.

The Nissan 5k will still be around after looking like it was gone for a while, but it looks it will be paired with a 10-miler. I hope the 10-miler doesn't get all the attention. There are so few major 5k races out there.
