I never really noticed much difference in price, maybe $20 at most between Sports check, National, RR, and Sporting life. I have noticed that the Asics shoe has slightly different markings and colour schemes in each different store. The Asics Nimbus 8 for example. I have seen three slightly different types and no I am not mixing up the men's and women's styles. I have also noticed 3 different types of Kayano 13's. I hope it is only cosmetic differences.

Maybe it is similar to how an electronics shop gets a manufacturer to give a video camera an identifying model number, specifically for their stores only. So you can't find that particular one cheaper anywhere else.

So I'm jogging along the lake feeling pretty good about myself, having worked up to 35km per week doing 5 and 10ks 4 to 5 times a week. When I notice this elder aquaintance of mine, who is 71 by the way. As I approach, I yell out "Hows it going pete". He replies "Hey how are you maybe I'll jog with ya.". So I slow it down just a little so we can chat for awhile. Do you run down here Pete? I ask. "No I just like to walk but as you know I do Ski, play tennis and golf." Well 30 minutes later peter had completed the approxiamately 5km with me. Did I say he was 71? Did I say he doesn't go on runs......ever? Did I say he was BARE FOOT? Sort of made me think what I've accomplished so far is no big shakes

They are cosmetic differences and it's annoying because half the time the person wants the magenta one and we only have the lightning (that's a colour??) one.

Asics has an exclusive deal with RR for the Stratus in Canada...and I see it has changed from 1960 Ford Fairlane turquoise to Lake Ontario blue.

okay, great ... we get it
can we drop the attacks on RR now ? or perhaps find another forum ? I do notice you have a blog devoted to that one subject, perhaps that's the best place for the vitriol, it's becoming a little tiresome here
if you have other opinions, i welcome them
thanks

You're probably not familiar with A1Runner and his posts, then, are you? Ask him about what people in Topeka think of the Ottawa Marathon's merge crisis, which continues unabated in its sixth month. The man derives an inordinate pleasure from turning molehills into mountains and inarticulately feigning an expertise with the subject at hand.

Returning back to Ontario running, I really have nothing to add because I'm taking some down time. Is anyone racing at Niagara this weekend?

I'll be working at the RR booth in Niagara. Feel free to sling all the slags at me and John then.

Recovering quite well from Portland. Going to start training for the Goofy.

I haven't trained, but I think I could do just as well as my previous attempts at Niagara.

Lunchtime run today as I was busy this morning with daughter finishing off her science project (planetary observations) and she wanted at least one entry for Venus.

Has anyone run ING Miami, either half or full ? I'm considering it. Trying to qualify for NYC the easy (??) way, via the half. Looking for something flat ... Houston would be another option perhaps.

How's things? My friend just bailed on our long run for tomorrow so I'm on my own and wondering if I can really do ATB training on my own.

Comes down to how bored you're willing to be during long runs.

may-bee it's different for you cuz you're a gurl and you're not so comfy running a lot by yourself

Nah - I used to go to the Dundas Valley by myself all the time to run the trails... in hindsight... maybe not such a good idea...

I don't get bored - amazing how fast three hours flies by on the run. It's the motivation factor. It's the "good krist it's cold out there and I have to go run 21k all by myself" factor. Experience tells me this is my weak point.

Then global warming should be your friend

For me it's the thought of showing up at the start line unprepared that gets me out there. I'm much happier hitting the ATB with a 20 miler under my belt.

It's a bit early to be too concerned about that part, mid Feb is when those big long runs come into play. Right now I get 2 hours in for long runs and that sustains things just fine, it'll only take me a month to bring em up to snuff when the time comes.

edit: A1, can you edit that link properly in your post so I don't have to be scrolling left and right just to read posts?

I don't get bored -

I'm a little paranoid and I'm an old guy! Two nights ago the three kids (21, 19, 17) and I go jogging along the Highland creek trail in Scarborough. We started out at 6:30. I stated maybe this isn't a good idea since it was already dark and it would take an hour to jog the loop. Now this trail is paved but it is canopied by trees and you are pretty well in solid woods. Talk about not being able to see 10 feet in front of you, boy was it dark. Needless to say we didn't see anyone else. I said to the kids this is actually pretty dangerous for a number of reasons. They laughed it off and were unconcerned, typical teenage behavior. Running ahead and then trying to startle me.

Anyway yesterday my son and I are jogging the same trail in late afternoon. While running we here a bang, I say to my son "what was that?" He says "I don't know but don't you wish it was dark now." I say "Yes" He responds "Exactly, it is safer down here at night". I don't know maybe they are correct, but maybe not.

I bailed at Niagara because I haven't been running since Toronto due to the fact I ran there untrained and with a cold.
My really minor case of asthma tends to lead to bronchial congestion if I do dumb things.

I'm hoping to get out tomorrow or Monday though and take it easy, but run more than once a week.

I have run Niagara 8 times and it has rained 8 times. I told everyone to sign up last year as I wasn't running and it was bound to be good weather...Nope!!

...wouldn't count on tomorrow either.

Wow, lots of new names and posts - haven't been able to read them all. Notice RioG posting - nice to hear from you! Hi to everyone else.

I've been really sick with a broncial thing for the last two weeks - my last plus 30k run was late September, so my training has hit the skids. Planned to run Niagara 1/2, that didn't happen, so I'm running Hamilton 1/2 next Sunday - really looking forward to the end with the 2k uphill at 4% grade, but I've got to run something!!!! Marathon is on hold while I regroup.

Someone else said they were trying to qualify for NY the easy way. I'm looking to do the same (not next week however!) - a group of us hitting the milestone want to run NY to celebrate.

Happy running!

Running 42k seems like an awful way to celebrate anything, but that's just me.

So... everyone hand out lots of candy? Just after 8 I left the bowl on the porch with the pumpkins still lit in the yard and went for a run... but the candy was still there when I got home! Strange...

We're on a dead-end street so we only get about 20 kids a year. Nice and warm for going out, though. I'm usually bundled up with hat, scarf and mittens - this year I didn't need any of that.

I've been running and biking lots - doing an off-season program from the coach who did my IM training schedule. The program is supposed to end in January or February with a 1/2 marathon, but the only one I know around that time is the Chilly Half in March. Anyone know of a 1/2 marathon in February?

Peterborough has a well-established half at the end of Feb.

That is perfect! I would much rather race in Peterborough than Burlington/Hamilton/wherever the Chilly Half is located. Thanks very much.

We had a flurry of kids...for about 15 minutes, and then it went dead. We think it was due to DST. In the past the kids start knocking around 5:30, this year it was around 6:30 and smaller kids just didn't have much out time before it got too late for them.

Rio, no one took candy on a porch? Where on earth do you live?

JC, I have the same predicament this winter.
