Registration opened for the 2008 Disney races today. I just registered for the Goofy Challenge. Half Marathon on Saturday and Marathon on Sunday. It's the 15th Anniversary so the medal will be a special issue.

Nothing like an easy warm up the day before the marathon, eh Eddie? Despite the warm weather, I'm struggling with winter blues. I need long sunny days! Running, but I'm having to really push myself to get motivated. My hero is back on Sunday - Jack and 24!!!!! Patti

Hope Jack doesn't end up pickled No snow here - flurries but it was pretty warm at our track workout tonight. 6.5km tempo run at a 5:22 km pace - and it almost killed me! 3k warm up /cooldown. It felt good, even though I felt out of shape. The wind got yucky near the end. Foot held up but the right IT is pretty tight so off to roll around on my big blue foam roller. I'm becoming rather fond of him Patti

I'm starting to feel good...I am within a minute per km of that time...just a short while ago I was barely within an hour of that time per km. 15 fewer pounds of ugly fat will help...but I would miss my head.

Hi there,I just registered here but I'm not new to Toronto. I started running last January and ran 3 5K races in 2006. I'm hoping to run a 10K this spring or summer. I live in downtown Toronto and mostly run the streets. I noticed on another fdiscussion mention of the Central Tech track on Bathurst. Does anyone here use it? I run past it often but have always thought I wasn't allowed to run there. Could someone please tell me if/when it's "legal" for outsiders to use the track? Also, what is the track made from? I'd love to use it for speed training. Many thanks and happy running!

I run on the track at Central Tech from time to time. You're allowed to run on it except, I guess, maybe during school hours. It's made of asphalt and has some cracks and small holes, but it's workable for the most part. The dirt path at Queen's Park, about a mile down the street, is a little easier on the legs and more beautiful.

Thank you very much! Do you happen to know the distance of the dirt track around the park?

Hi Imi76 - thanks for dropping in.Guess it really is January - not sure I like it! Mara pace long run this morning - I started outside but it was so slippery I couldn't keep any kind of pace so decide if I want to run a regular pace I should do it on the treadmill. Ran a total of 16k, watching 2 episodes of season 5 24, just to get in the mode for tomorrow night. 40k week so far. Hope everyone else is happy running.

lmi76, I've spent a couple of years trying to figure it out. It's between 830 and 850 metres.

Whaddya know? We got snow...A couple of hours through the park system, with an embedded 10 miles at a moderate tempo pace. As long as the pathways stay clear I'll just keep on truckin'. Now I gotta do a few laps around the block with my son.

Nasty stuff this morning. My car doors were stuck and it took me several minutes to get in! Then, it took another 10 minutes of chipping to get through the ice on the windows. The beginning of the end - guess I'll be on the TM today.

Whine whine whineGeesh, it's Canada. We're tough, we're strong I felt great today running and didn't even notice the ice or snow. ...oh yeah, it was on the treadmill. But I did run 18K outside on Sunday...well sorta run, if you take a liberal interpretation of the word.

Hey folks!Seems like ages since I have been around but it looks like you are all doing well. I spent half of last year on the disabled list and recorded my lowest (by half) annual mileage since I started running. I lost a couple of months in the spring due to non-running related injuries and then in September my left knee started acting-up (read stopped working). It is taking forever to figure out and correct what is wrong – hard for a guy who has never had a real running injury. Last week I was finally given the go ahead to try a little run-walk, so Sunday I gave it a go – 1 mile walk to warm-up then alternating run-walk of 1 minute, 2 min., 3 min, 4, then 3 sets of 5 min. All was good until the third (ok, maybe it started in the 2nd) set of 5 minutes of running when my kneecap stopped tracking properly and the pain started. I was out for over an hour and covered about six-miles in total so it is a start and my knee has recovered nicely this week and I did not have to stop my physio stretching and strengthening exercises. Glad to see the rest of you are running strong and healthy. Cheers, HPG (aka Craig)

Nice to hear from you, HPG. Injuries suck, so hopefully you are on the mend.11k OMP run yesterday, on the treadmill cause I hate cold and have a major fear of falling on all the ice - are you with me RioG? Hopefully, some of it will be gone for track work tomorrow - if I can make it as I'm off sick today. aurang, did you watch 24? First couple seasons the threats never really materialized - this year - WOW! And Jack's turned into a vampire . Patti

Welcome back, HPG! It's nice to hear from you!! I hope you realize that you don't have to be actually "running" in order to post here. It doesn't stop most of us!! <hee hee>I have officially started my IM training plan. 27 weeks starts this week. My plan is actually for 26 weeks, but I'm doing week 1 twice. I'm also taking swimming lessons over these 2 weeks to improve my form. The ironman all about surviving the swim, as far as I'm concerned.

I've only seen the first episode but yeah, it looks crazy this year. I assume you're talking about the guy he killed at end of the first episode? That was a first for me. I have to find time to watch the other three episodes before Monday, this season looks pretty good.

That wasn't as bad as whatever Fayid (Fayed?) used to torture Jack, which I didn't watch, I just listened to it.I don't know what's so bad about your son watching it. It's a tough world out there, kids should be prepared for this sort of thing. How's everyone's running going? I'm running more than I have, around 100-110k a week, and it feels great. Welcome back HPG!Good luck with the IM training Dawn. I haven't got into the 24 series because I'm afraid I'll get hooked. I guess I can always get the DVDs for a marathon viewing session. I think I'm starting to get my winter legs running on the 'brown sugar' snow tonight for 10K.

Thanks Eddie! My training is going well, but I'm certainly not doing 100 k of running a week. Wow! That's fantastic aurang!! I've been doing about 6 hours a week of mostly biking and running. This week will go up to about 9 since I'm adding in 3 swims. Next week is the official start of my 26 week training plan. Woo Hoo!! The countdown begins...

Hi Craig! Gee, I never figured you for an injury. You always seemed rather risilient in my view. Stuff happens tho.Hey Dawn, if you're going to be concentrating on swimming, I suggest somewhere other than in Taylor Creek.

I'm glad I'm not on your plan Dawn! I'm awed by anyone who trains for an event that involves more than one sport let alone three. I'll be cheering you all the way Missed track tonight - not just because I've been sick. One of those days - 1:30 my boy's school calls - he took a basketball to the head at lunch - he is okay but as he wears glasses so he has a couple nasty cuts around his eye. Leave work to pick him up - home about an hour when Zak says "mom, there's a leak down here!". Run down to the living room and there is a steady drip coming from the ceiling, run up to the second floor - in his room the ceiling has huge wet spots, carpet soaked and paint starting to strip off the wall. Down to the basement - wet ceiling and walls. Turn water off, call builder, insurance, argue with both, carpets ripped up,etc.. Then Zak says " Hey Mom. if I hadn't of got hurt we would have been home alot later and things would have been a lot worse" - I gave him a huge, enormous hug - I hope he always looks for the silver lining Track work on my own tomorrow Patti
