JC has returned injured from mountain hiking in New England...just a hyper extended knee from a bad step coming down, but it is swollen and I haven't run in 10 days. I am supposed to run Toronto in 15 days, but that surely might be a long long day if I don't get to run soon. May try a shorty today and hopefully can get an 8 miler and a 12 miler in before my 4 day taper. Congrats to your daughter tigger. When you coming to town?

Sorry to hear about the injury JC. Maybe consider letting this race go without you and take the time to recover fully. I won't be around for a while, but should be passing through around Xmas. Jen's team (and Jen) is at Stanford today for an invitational meet. CIAU finals are in Victoria, and I may head down there if she gets to go. Her team is a lock on the women's championship. They have two of the fastest ladies in the country and another half dozen very fast rookies.

Sorry I wasn't more supportive Dawn ......ok I think you'll survive it. You've got guts that's for sure! The course has11,000 feet of elavation? Bring a coat and long Johns. Did I read correctly- Not one woman finished the course last year?

I think Dawn was replying to my thread backstretch!Stanford was a good test for Guelph. Teamwise they were 5th against great competition, and their uperb rookie Lindsay Carson was second overall. She is an incredible talent who will probably win this race next year, and Guelph with their list of fine rookies (4 of their top 7 finishers are rookies) will have a shot at a team win in a year or two. Jen was 99th of 241 runners and 9th of 10 on her team, with a 23:07 for the 6k course. Not bad for someone who was injured for most of the summer. Next big test is Penn State in two weeks.

No, don't be sorry. I was just kidding. I know it's crazy. This race is a real stretch for me. I'm not ready for it, but there's a chance it might not happen next year and I've had my eye on it for several years now. I figured it's now or never. The bike course is only 8,000 feet of climbing, not 11,000 - piece of cake, right? There were only 7 female finishers last year. I think there's only 5 signed up this year, although there's still 2 weeks to go. If no one else signs up *and* I finish the course, then I could win prize money. How funny is that! (top 5 men and women win money) I figure at least 2 or 3 more fast women will likely sign up at the last minute. I will truly be out there just trying to get in before sundown. I'm just back now from helping at the aide station for the Scotiabank marathon. That was fun! I definitely have to volunteer more often. We saw the runners at 3km and 40km. Great turnout and good weather (although it got a bit hot at the end). Seeing the elites run is really amazing.

I know you completed an Ironman which by itself is a great accomplishment but the guys that win this American Zofingen are pro's and it takes them 7 hrs. I do understand you wanting to go though, even if it was just to see it; I get it. Hope you do finish, it would have to be such a high. Never realized Guelph was such a powerhouse in Xcountry Tigger. Excellent that your daughter finishes in the top half in university meets. Practicing everyday with the best, can't beat that! Jim, FastEddy and JC running Boston the times Aurang has run, boy Ontario runners rock!!!

Wife's still away, for this week at least. It's been a battle between the pillow and the alarm clock in the AM to do any running. This morning the alarm clock was being supported by the sound of falling rain, but I still somehow managed to get up in time to drop the recycle stuff at the curb and head to the park. My running is pathetic. This is 2 weeks in a row without a reasonable long run, no speed work, and not much mileage. This week should be a little better as I'm getting into a rhythm. If you can call running around the house and work in a tizzy as being a rhythm.Missed a good chance for a race last Sunday. The start line was 200 yards from my front door.

The question is, were you tired at the end? Anyway Ran 10 k, 4 times so far although last night I could only manage 8, which meant I had to walk 2 back to the car. I'm so slow, I'm embarassed to be seen on the streets so just sticking to the trails for now. While jogging through Morningside park last Friday I hear pop pop pop pop. Firecrackers? I say to my son. Bloods against Crips?- his reply. Well a minute or so later we spot a tank, then a couple of Humvees with these soldiers just blasting away with their automatic weapons,- wow Scarborough is a tough neighbourhood. Hmmm then we noticed the film crews and realized just another movie being shot. Well it was very exciting for a brief moment. [This message has been edited by backstretch (edited Oct-02-2007).]

Ohh my Gawd Dawn - you are a determined person! Just catching up on posts. Hi backstretch, nice to hear from you Tigger. Good luck to your speedy daughter. Jim, isn't it fun being a single parent?Things have been really busy here - my son has decided to become a jock so we have been juggling basketball and volleyball tryouts. Basketball has won. The ex has been on bender, but we've learned to cope. As my son gets older, he gets smarter and thankfully he's a great kid. I have a really nice man in my life now which I'm enjoying but it does make one busier! I am still training, planning on Philly. I took some downtime the last two weeks because I wasn't enjoying running anymore - it was a job. Its got to be fun otherwise why do it? Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! Patti

Happy Turkey Day to you too Patti, and everyone else in Canada.I'm heading out to the land where Thanksgiving is delayed till November. Flying out tommorow morning to Portland, Oregon to run in the Portland Marathon Sunday. It was hard not to go for a run with all the beautiful weather out there today, but I'm in taper and must resist.

It's certainly an adventure. She's back, finally. Of the 98% I've covered, she's ragging on me over the other 2%. I mean, sheeet...everyone's alive and fed and their clothes are all clean. What else is there? I covered a tempo run today at a 4:15/k pace. The lack of running gave me some recovery so I could do this, but it was hard on the system without the mileage. I was hoping to have cranked out the miles for a few weeks and then be be going into week easy leading up to next weekend's race, but instead I have to spend a couple of days rebuilding some endurance, then do a mini taper. Sub 20's out the window right now, I'll regear towards something in November or December.

Hello all and happy Thanksgiving! I am visiting myfolks in Saskatoon. I managed a 2 hour long run along the river this morning, and saw thousands of Canada Geese getting ready to flock off soon. I was accepted for Tokyo Marathon on Feb 17 so now the training gets serious. I just finished wk 5 of Pfitz 24/55 and am beginning to see the effects of marathon training. I am running slower and have more aches and pains.Enjoy your turkey today but most importantly, enjoy your company.

Well I hope everyone is enjoying their turkey back in Canada.Made through the Portland, Oregon marathon with a so so 3:40 finish (guess I could get a quickie sex change in Thailand and requalify for Boston, but that would be too painfult ). Weather was pretty good, cloudy and about 10C to start, then getting partly sunny and going up to around 16-18C. Legs were feeling heavy as we started and I could only hold onto the 3:30 pace rabbits for 8 miles. The 3:40 rabbits past me with about two miles to go, but I hung on to finish just behind them. Spending the next three days going on day trips out of Portland to the Oregon Coast, Mt. Hood, and Mt. St. Helens, but the weather looks a little rainy, so I'm not sure what I'll be able to see. Back to T.O. on Thursday and right back to work at the Toronto Marathon Expo. Eddie

Great job on racking up another marathon Eddie! You are amazing!!Well, I had to cancel on the American Zofingen race due to some family issues. Nothing serious, but it just made it too hard for me to travel this weekend. I was seriously undertrained for it anyway, so it's probably a good thing. I'm crossing my fingers that the race will be back next year. Now I have no races on my schedule. Just started an off-season training plan from the coach I used for the IM. Lots of running and biking and *no* swimming until January!! I like it! Anyone know of some trail runs in southern Ontario that are coming up?

you taking Earl with you? Dawn, you can add the ontario masters 8k xc on Nov 4(?) I believe? It's in the Sunnybrook sports fields. Mainly a team event, but individual entries are welcome (cuz they like the extra money coming in).

To bad Dawn, it would have been interesting to see just how far you could of went. If they have it next year, I'm sure you'll be ready. Are you going to do anymore Ironmans?

Yep, but not until 2009. Next year is devoted to getting faster at the marathon and 1/2 IM. Thanks for the 8k race suggestion, Jim.
