I get to be at the top of the page.yay Doing something a little different today, 12x200. I feel I need to work on my leg speed and 200s are a good way to do it. Sure does beat up the legs though. We've got a nice streak of summer weather for a bit. Enjoy!

Hey folks,Hope all are well. How is everyone finding running in this heat? I was out for an hour bike ride yesterday morning… I was warm on the bike and some of the runners were struggling. I think I find the crappy air worse than the heat. Hey JC I like the pic. I am thinking if I am ever allowed to run again I should come and join one of your groups. Dawn ~ that racing in Ohio sounded very cool, I am very impressed with your training and results. Jim ~ what are you running next? Patti ~ nice to see you at the Rex the other day – I would vote for Philly for your fall marathon but I bet you would do well at the Toronto waterfront as well. I am seeing a second knee surgeon this Wednesday so hopefully I can figure out what we do next. Cheers, Craig

Good luck with the surgeon consult, Craig. I'm sure it can't be fun to be out of commission right now.I've managed to come down with my first major cold in 3 years. I took the whole week off, except for a 30 minute shuffle on Thursday. I wasn't even able to do my bike rides this weekend. Ugh! I've done nothing but watch movies all weekend, so I hope I can get back to it this week. Really bad time to get sick - Lake Placid is only 7 weeks away!

Hi AllI've been very bad over the last week - no runs, but mega yard work. That counts, doesn't it? Training for the fall starts in a couple weeks so being lazy. Dawn, sorry about the cold. But I am sure you'll be fine. Maybe your body was telling you it needed a bit of a rest. You won't lose anything in a week. Hope you are back out there this week. It was nice to see you too Craig. I hope your consult goes well and you will be running again in the near future. Heading to California Friday for a conference - come home Tuesday. Looking forward to the break - but I'll be learning! Patti

Gee, Patti off to Schwarzengger land, Craig seeing the Doc, Dawn coming down with a post race cold. I guess it's not a good time to suggest a group run from the Nike Lounge this Saturday.Still a little stiff from my marathon, but slowly getting back to my usual distance. Starting to ponder what marathon to do next.

Just discovered this thread. I am planning to run the Scotia waterfront Marathon in September. I was made to believe it was nice flat and fast and allowed for a good chance to BQ. Does anyone here have any experience running this marathon? Any opinion would be appreciated.

Welcome to the Ontario Forum Ewart. I've run the Waterfront Half Marathon about four times. It is flat except for a little uphill back from Lakeshore to Wellington Street near the end and a small hill near the Legion hall at 8K/15K out and back. The only deciding factor is the temperature and wind. Last year is was pretty windy and the year before was somewhat humid. There is no cover on the Leslie Street Spit portion out to Tommy Thompson Park, but they cut out going too much into the lake last year. Not a lot of crowd support, but a nice view of the Lake Ontario shoreline for a lot of the race, and you can judge where you are at in the race by checking how far your away from the CN Tower. Get's a little ugly under the Gardiner Expressway and Commissioners is all industrial, but your there for short stretches only. Good Luck with the training. Eddie

Hi guysI'm back from Florida. I almost ran on 3 different days. For the next month I'm just going to run 5K every morning and bike what my bum allows (probably 15K-20K) in the afternoon and/or evening. Dawn you are doing so well. Bet you'll smoke Lake Plastic. Retire now Patti...I highly recommend it. Scotiabank is a fast course, but I hate it. The new Toronto Marathon course is tougher, but 50 times more interesting.

I've only run the one marathon, but I found that the race was enough to keep my mind off of how interesting the course may or may not have been. The Toronto Marathon runs along the waterfront, just like the Waterfront Marathon, and I think anyone would trade High Park's hills at 30k for a dull but flat course.

However I don't see them rerouting Boston around Heartbreak Hill to make it easier. It's true that when you are running you concentrate on the race a whole lot more than the surroundings, but I like nice surroundings or if not that, then great spectator support. Scotiabank under the Gardiner and out the Leslie Street Spit (where you are always within 200m of the water but basically never see it) is just about my perfect definition of dismal. I ran Death Valley and it was surely different in the desert, but it rolled and you could always watch the buzzards overhead hoping you didn't make it. The old New Orleans Marathon on the bridge across Lake Pontchartrain would be perfect, especially if you have a tailwind. Perfectly straight...elevation change is 16 inches....the scenery never changes. Could be tougher now...I think the bridge is gone after Katrina.

Hi folks! Been busy so haven't been around. Yesterday was pool opening day for us, the water was a toasty 70 degrees, which sounds great until you get in it.Craig, I'm doing the Nightcrawler next Wednesday, but that's all I have planned. The heat's on this week, looks like almost 30 every day for highs, and it's only June. I can't wait to see what mid-July will be like.

I have to agree with JC on this one. I would much rather a hilly marathon that is more interesting than a flat one. If you're going for a particular time, like a BQ, then Scotiabank is probably fine for you, but otherwise give me something interesting to run. My first (very painful) marathon was Cape Cod. Miles 14 to 24 are constant, rolling hills. Beautiful course, but very tough.I really like the changes they made to the Toronto Marathon. That first loop up in nowhereville, North York was just ugly. Glad they got rid of it. For any environmentalists out there, there's a Green Toronto show at Nathan Phillips Square tomorrow from 10 to 3. I'm trying to find some solutions for my driveway that doesn't involved concrete or asphalt, so I'll probably head down at some point.

Time for our weekly bump.It has been vicious hot out there in the afternoons. I did 5 miles on Tuesday aft and thought I was going to fry. I guess it's the combination of summer temps and late spring sunshine, being in the sun feels like a blast furnace. This morning felt arctic-like in comparison. The weather network promises a break for next Wednesday's Nightcrawler.

Ha! You all would LOVE it out here in Lotus Land! Today it hit a high of 13C! Rivers are high but dropping. You could still ski in Smithers if the club was open, which it isn't.I am having trouble finding motivation after my May HM, and my legs just seem to be like rubber when I go out. I am like JC....almost running every day. I will be back in Timmins next week for daughter's grad. She earned several academic awards and several athletic ones too. She ran 10:50 for 3000 meters at OFSAA in Ottawa last weekend. Hoping to make Guelph's XC team and probably will if she runs well this summer. After this trip and one to move her stuff to Guelph in Sept I will be pretty much done with the commuting thing.

I ran faster than that in high school! My best was 10:42. Oddly enough, I didn't beat that time until I split 10:21 in a 5k on Sunday. Seriously, Guelph is a great team and a great program to run for, I hope she makes it.Jim, the Night Crawler always gets good weather. It's some sort of cosmic rule. In 2005, we had heat index days of 40, but the weather cooled down for the Night Crawler, where my friend ran the race of his life (26 and change). It was also the last race of his life, though he did live. See you there. It seems that we only meet at races between 8 and 10k.

Hi AllBack from California, although I didn't get to see too much of it as it was a conference. We toured Newport Beach on Sunday and I decided I am going to be rich in my next life. Small 3 three bedroom cottage on the water - asking price $3.3 million!!! The beach was beautiful. As you walk out the pier there is a sign " Tsunami warning - in an earth quake head for higher ground" The is no land higher than 10 feet above sea level for miles around........! My special friend was also there so it was nice to have four days without kids! I ran a couple times - 8k all around the outside of Disneyland and the million hotels in the area. The weather was cool but humid. Start training next week although I haven't made a firm decision on my goal race. Tigger, Ias thinking about you when I heard all the high water reports around Smithers. Patti

“Your running days are over.” Not exactly the words I wanting to hear from the surgeon. He says that from the MRI it appears that too much of the damage is degenerative and cannot be repaired. He feels that if I run again I will still experience pain and the arthritis will progress even more quickly. The rest of our conversation was more relaxed and balanced, he says there is damage to the meniscus and ligaments plus some other issues (bone spurs) that he could clean-up with arthroscopic surgery. I am booked for a scope on July 25 and hope, of course, that when he gets inside he can repair more than he thought and the other damage is less than the MRI suggests. Hope you are all enjoying your training and racing… I will continue to run vicariously through all of you. Cheers, Craig

Craig, I am so sorry. I know how much you enjoy running. Those are words no runner wants to hear. Hopefully, it won't be as bad and you can run can again. Wishing you the best possible outcome!Happy Father's Day to you and all you other guys! Easy 12k today but it was hot!!!! Patti

HPG. Yes, let's hope that things aren't as bad as they appear. Wishing you all the best.12K for me too today. From the Distillery District out half way on the Leslie Street Spit and back. They have a new gravel path on the eastern edge of the Spit. Which reminds me. I have to get a new tutu for the next Midsummer's Night 30K. Don't want to show up in the same tutu. That would be a big fashion Faux Pas.

HPG - I'm so sorry to hear the bad news you got. I'll keep my fingers crossed that he can repair more than he thinks he can. You also need to get a second opinion at some point too.

Sorry to hear that Craig, however I hard that I could never ski again and that I should be happy I could walk without a limp.Well now I have a bit of a limp when I get tired but I have skied for 35 years. Soon I might try running. I haven't been running much...2 or 3 times per week but have been cycling like a mad fiend. I think it will help oveall. Going on a little roadtrip starting July 1st...to Fort Collins Colorado for a family reunion. Looking forward to seeing some spots in Iowa and Nebraska on the way. Last time through it was zoom zoom zoom across some of the flattest land on the planet. There are 2 hills between Chicago and Denver...the banks of the Mississippi and the banks of the Missouri. Some cool histoy out there and since I will be by myself...I go when I want, stop when I want, eat when I want sleep when I want. It's about a 22 hour drive. That's usually 2 days for me, but I may just coast and do it in 3.

Survived another nightcrawler. Wasn't quite ready for this one, I did my long run on Monday cuz I missed Sunday so I was a touch tired going in. Did okay anyway, 34:39 on my watch. Smaller crowd this year too. This race is really big on slow folks starting up front. Aurang got a prize for, like, running really fast.
