I had a great day...finished well before lunch and smiling the whole way.My running buddy Erika, who moved to Muskoka, has run exactly 7 times since Christmas including a long run of 10K two weeks ago. She has severe asthma and has fought off continuous bronchitis and a touch of pneumonia. She was determined to run and finish it. We normally run just a little under 2 hours, but knew that it was likely going to be a lot closer to 2:30 today. She just asked me to keep a slow pace as steady as possible....5 of the first 7 km were splits of 6:24...I'd say that would qualify as steady. She was pretty much done when we crossed the foot bridge over the Credit River and we had to walk for a minute or so at 18K and again at 20K, but we rolled in at 2:17...another personal worst...I seem to be setting them often, but it was really satisfying. What a great day for a run...and at 2:17 you don't get all sweaty.

Nice job for the first one, aurang! This is one of those courses that need to be run twice to get it right. You did well patti, I just missed seeing you at the finish as I was returning from the change tents at the time. And very honorable, jc. Of course it's easy to be honorable with the young and female. Rest up all.

Congrats everyone. Hope the weather is as just as good in Halifax next Sunday. Hills around the Citadel are probably going to kill me.

Congrats on your first aurang - 3:10 is an amazing time and I'm sure you'll hit your goal in the next one.JC, you're one amazing pace bunny. Did you use to do commercials? Thanks Eddie and HPG. Forgot to say that it was an absolutely amazing day for a race. The weather was perfect, sunny, cool, no wind. The last half of the course for the half is so pretty, and no rolling hills like the full I'm told. I've spent sometime in Port Credit but have never really spent anytime in the neighbourhoods below Lakeshore. Its a beautiful area. Reminds me of that Town I work for but they'd never believe me!! Congrats everyone! Sounds like you all had pretty good races. I'm just back from a trip to visit the family in the Boston area. Got in a 4 hour ride and a 1 hour run this weekend. Not as impressive as all of you racing!! I'm down to my last 10 weeks before Lake Placid!! Yikes!!

Got to be a race roadie today.I'm thinking I'm gonna take off on the road like Littlest Hobo and just put up start finish lines and cone off chutes and use miles and miles of Running Room tape. It was especially fun in the rain.

No I was doing the Peel X-C Championships in Erindale Park Our Daff-o-Dash was to get the stuff torn down and packed up to take into the Rosedale store to set up for the Daff-o-Dash. I declined to attend. ...obviously, since it is only 40 minutes old as we speak..or type.

ah, I didn't check what time it start eeed, although I thought it a bit odd for a race to be held during a midweek daytime.

Amazing News: I crossed the finishing line first in the Daff-O-Dash!Reality Check: I was on my bike at the time leading in the first runner in 18 minutes and change. Reality Check II. I had to go back and lead the last walker in during the rain and cold in 60 minutes and change.

I have some really excellent running and race pics...so I guess I can't complain when some aren't quite so "appealing" I know I need to lose about 15 pounds before running at speed again, but that pic makes it look like I need to lose about 50. They say the camera adds 5 pounds...that shot must have been taken with 10 different cameras BTW Jim how did you find that one??...on the website I had none by my name, but luckily (or not so luckily actually) they came up under Erika's bib #

See, I actually thought it was a good pic. Now had you been wearing bright colours and wide horizontal stripes... quote:

Hi Gang,Made it back alive from wet and soggy Halifax. Man, it rained or drizzled from the very moment I got there on Friday afternoon, and all day Saturday till half way through the race Sunday morning. The sun started peaking out of course after the race was over. Didn't have a very good race. Too much walking around the days before and not a very good training schedule due to job commitments and travel. Anyways managed a 3:50 gun time. Started to bonk after 20 miles with calf cramping and for the first time pectoral muscle cramping!? Guess I was holding too much tension in the upper body. A very hilly race with a Around the Bay Valley Inn Road type hill at around 35K. Still we went through some very nice trail areas in Point Pleasant Park in Halifax and around Lake Micmac in Dartmouth. Though we didn't have to go up Citadel Hill, going around the base of it twice was hilly enough. It was great to run across the Macdonald Bridge and seeing the Halifax skyline and all the Canadian warships in the harbour. Eddie

Congratulations Eddie! A 3:50 with a bonk and cramping is pretty impressive!!! I really love Halifax. I hope you got a chance to enjoy it a bit.

Hey Eddie, 3:50 sounds like a great time to me, especially in crappy weather and on a hilly course!Hope everyone has been enjoying their long weekend. The sun sure is nice, even if its not real warm. An easy 10 k on Saturday, 8.2K today. I ran the first 5k with my son - his first 5k outside. He has been running on the TM. He wants to run the 5k at the Ancaster Old Mill Race with his cousin, who is 14. He did pretty good - just over 28 mins, not bad for his first outdoor attempt! I may have a built in running buddy , although if he keeps it up, I'm sure he will soon be leaving me behind. Nice pic JC! Patti

Eddie bonked?!? no way! I thought that was just me that did that. Nice job though, it's good to know that at least one of my marathon times are faster than yours.Did 15 miles on Sunday, 'twas a good day for a run 'cept for being a bit cool. Spent Monday in my garden getting things down for the season. Let's see if I have the discipline to actually weed this year.

Another week gone, so it must be time for a post here to keep it on page 1.I am doing 3 runs per week these days...unfortunately all 3 of them are on Saturday mornings at RR. 12K with a group of friends, followed by 6K with a clinic, followed by 3K with a Learn to Run Clinic. The last obe is tough because we're all cooled out and the speed is not very demanding...even for me. BTW I had breakfast with Goldens yesterday...haven't seen her in ages. What a delightful person.

I wuz out for a couple of hours today, kinda sweaty even though I ran easy. I saw they had the Manulife run for research in the park. They put the 5k turnaround point about 400 meters short of the real 5k turnaround. That's my kind of 5k.

She is one of my best friends so I'm going to miss her!!! Just some nice short runs, nothing major the last couple weeks. Still setting my fall goal. Patti

Hey everyone! Just got back from a weekend of racing in southern Ohio. I participated in the Desoto Triple T triathlon weekend which is a series of 4 races over 3 days. The total distance adds up to just over Ironman distance, but it's spread out over 3 days. One super-short tri on Friday night, two Olympic distance races on Saturday and then a 1/2 Ironman on Sunday. It's very strange to see how your body reacts to racing day after day like that. The results aren't up yet, but I did something like 0:32 for Friday, 3:23 and 3:45 for Saturday and then 7:36 for Sunday. That's over an hour off my PB for 1/2 Ironman, but I was happy just to finish. My legs on Sunday had nothing left. I was in almost my lowest gear even on the flats! And, the bike and run courses in these tris are the toughest I've ever done. Everyone was suffering. I had several people tell me that if I could finish TTT then Lake Placid will be a cinch. I hope that's true. If nothing else I got a good 15+ hour workout weekend in.

I was ran 4 times in 3 days. Other than that, I can't relate. Dawn, that's amazing. It should be an excellent boost to your fitness towards the IM.

Dawn, that sounds like one really peaceful weekend I agree with Jim - sounds like you are really in good condition for Lake Placid, with time to go.Down to three fall choices - Philly or Columbus - or TO Waterfront. First two appeal as I get to be a bit lazy for a while (not good) but the comments for Philly last year are not great re the addition of the half. TO is appealing as its close to home, sleep in my own bed, cheaper and time for another try if I don't make it. And it will give me the motivation I need....hmmm. Nice easy 7k today. Summer's coming tomorrow. Patti
