Mozarttorte is a chocolate cake with a serious core of marzipan. For details and a photo see http://mozarttorte.domainname.at/e_index1.php .

Frankfurter Kranz also is a cake not a topping. It's an ordinary cake (maybe what is called sponge-cake in English, but I am not sure) filled and iced with crème au beurre and then topped with roasted hazelnuts and cherrys. See http://www.torten-online.de/Torten.php?Torte=Frankfurter-Kranz . This is certainly worth a few km.

Enjoy,

Ralf

P.S.: I don't believe that KDW had anything to do with the decision of Walmart to leave. Since this is one single store, their influence is limited. Walmart had more problems with discounter chains like Aldi and Lidl.

Mine came in the form of a reality check. Got a new high tech digital scale that calculate BMI and stores your weight goal and history...yadda,yadda, yadda. Anyway set it up then the magic moment, step on it and voila drum rolll 200.2 lbs. Humm re-read the instructions over and over step on 10 more times and 200.2 lbs, damn it. checked my old one and it reads 185 lbs. Apparently Angie's scale at work and the doctors confirm that the old scale (15 years old and rusty) is about 15 lbs under weight Damn-it. Geuss I was closer to 215lbs when I ran the Ottawa Marathon. Oh well guess I need to lose 20lbs.

Just found out that the Jay Marathon may not even be at Jay next year due to the gowing number of entrants.

http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/1/1_55/5383.shtml

So anyone interested in meeting for a run up the snowy mountain this week.

Roly

..... well roly, i sympathise .... we have a "talking" scale that announces your weight for all the world to hear, it then tells you how much you've gained and then wishes you a "have a nice day" ....... it was a gift from K to her ex[subtle hint..... not!!].... I guess he left it behind..... easier than loosing weight
....... KJ was looking very fit as she whizzed by gomez & I this afternoon, a beautiful day for a run on the mountain..... mild & snowy..... not bad for puppy walking too.
I managed to get in a bit of a pre-lunch run round the block yesterday, everything felt good.... I'll hit the gym tonight.... I really haven't had any luck finding time for the loooong runs lately.... ho humm
As for the jay thing.... wot about the winter challenge 10m/30m MTB race feb 10th...... couldn't find any clues as to there being a run option.... I may volunteer.... as I have an 8 hour "volunteer obligation" to fulfil....

where is everybody?

Happy holidays everyone.

Ran this morning with the blowing snow and the slushy conditions. After all that food, there was no other choice for me to atone for the previous day's gluttony.

Welcome back to winter everyone. I knew it was too much to hope for. Almost did a repeat act down the stairs this morning but this time the hands were quicker than the feet.

Easy TM workout yesterday. 40 minutes at Boston pace - 8.4 mph (6:49/mile). Relatively easy but continue to get that burning under my right foot. The neuroma is acting up again, I guess. Tonight is the "Jetty!#$%. Gotta find my CCM Tacks.

How 'bout a CR New Years bash, or is everyone doing their own thing this year?

Acidosis is a sick sick runner for trying to entice us to do that KK Challenge...

To add to my 2006 misfortune, just as I was recoverying fully from my 10 month knee injury, I twisted my ankle today... Not even sure I can swim... Back to the drawing board...

Ugh, DR, I feel for you. I too still feel my sprained ankle from over a year ago - went snow boarding the other day and it was stiff stiff stiff and sore. Good luck and I hope you mend quickly.

Merc, I've already got plans for NYE, but you can bet your bottom dollar that I'll coordinate something to bring in the new year sometime later in Jan when we all get settled back into more regular training (um, perhaps I am just speaking about my training ... ) But I will see you Jan 5 at Allie's!

Grommit, hey, I'll be in Toronto too next week - give me a shout and we might just be able to coordinate a bowl of New Year's soup!

Hope everyone is having a great holiday!

Sally

p.s. Look what I got for Christmas ...

Just wanted to remind everyone that Phoenix will be holding a Hogmanay Hustle on December 31. We will be meeting at Smith House at about 18:30 and then make our way to the Chalet for a toast at 7:00PM ( midnight in Scotland) We plan to do a couple of loops around the cross. We will be joined by a couple of people from Scotland who will be visiting Montreal this week end. Hope you can make it. See the Phoenix website for further details

Well Since grommit sent me an e-mail he received from the RD at Jay mentioning that the Jay Challenge will no longer be at Jay and the RD is currently seeking a new venue (hopefully in Vermont) and there is a chance that the race may be postponed this year. I have been looking to find other races to fill the year. If there is no news by March first then I will switch to another dream for this year.
Possible races.

Champlain Classic 15 km in Vermont May 6
http://www.champlainclassic.com/

Whiteface uphill race June 6
http://www.whitefacerace.com/footraceinfo.html

Vermont 50 (50km or 50 miles) September 30
http://www.vermont50.com/[/URL

Run for the toad 25 km trail also Sept. 30

Best wishes to everyone for the upcoming year. Health, wealth and time to enjoy both.

Roly: Whiteface. good times. Definately oodles of fun. Right DF?

As for myself, getting ready for the Hypothermic half in February, followed by Around the Bay in Hamilton in March before the marathon in April. Should be fun.

Which events are will you be running?

Whiteface looks likely.

Well since the Montreal cool runners are all doing there own thing these days and no one confirmed to get together and run this week-end. Looks like I'm going to run in Ile Bizzard tomorrow morning with the Phoenix Running club.

Ahhh Df. You must have been in heaven! I think I will put on my stuff and do the same thing.

Roly. Did you run with Phoenix? I wasn't in the mood to drive out to Buzzard Island. I'll go from Lachine to the mountain & back (I hope).

Good day CR's.

Yep. Nice bunch of runners. Wow must have been about 25 of them. As a cool runner I must admit I'm feeling a little bit of Pheonix envy. Nice thing about being such a big group there is always someone there on the days they meet. Just show up and run. Just too far for me to be a regular especially on week night.

...... that's what is! Phoenix envy..... these day my boss runs when he can, has no schedule, counts walkies as cross training and is still a fair ways from form....... however, he seems ok with that.... and he never really did the group thang anyways....

but meanwhile up on the mountain today, the conditions were superb up to his ankles in powder on some of the trail.... and everything else took about 50% effort.... ran from home and wow! was the trip up Wilderton tough in the salty slush... w/1 loop 1:42..... now if he can just sneak in an hour tomorrow he'll break the 40mile/week thing which is where he was before the flu from hell got him!

....later
