Well, I hope they have their own category, otherwise, it's totally unfair. This is gonna be one heck of a Hurley's, almost the whole gang ... Df, Grommit, DR, Acidosis? You new people (sorry, can't remember your CR names)? Lurkers? Sally ------------------ "Follow your bliss" My Ironwoman Inklings [This message has been edited by Silly Sally (edited Mar-30-2007).]

Here's an excerpt of last year's race summary:The most notable story of the day was the horses! Near the now repaired bridge that was missing at last year's 30K, a herd of horses escaped their field after most of the runners went by. They quickly made their way towards the frontrunners, even up the steep hill after mile 2. Many runners were inspired by the equines and the their excitement at having so many people to run with. Others mentioned it was Westford's version of the "running of the bulls". The horses were slowly captured and brought back to their farm but one remained elusive, moving up to 10th place by mile 3. Rick's pace was too much for even a horse, and the horse was captured around mile 4 without taking the lead. Thankfully no one was hurt in this memorable event. I believe the area near the Woods Hollow bridge is getting a "reputation" for making GMAA races interesting!

Hi everybody,I have been in vacation during the last weeks and took a break from nearly everything (except running itself). Now I am back with just another race report. Yesterday, I ran my first 10km since June 19, 2005 (DF, you remember?) I arrived pretty late at the starting area with only six minutes to go and still a visit to the Portapotty to do. Luckily there was no line-up so that I still got to the field in time. The weather was very good yesterday. About 12 degree and sunny. A tiny little bit to windy. As during the other races of this series, the start was pretty crowded. I don't get it that there are so many people that are not able to place themselves correctly. On checking my result in the database, I found another person that had times very similar to me at all three races. This person had at all races only seconds between gun time and chip time. Why? The first half of the race felt surprisingly easy and I managed to stay on my goal pace of 5'30"/km. After about 3 km I realised that I was in danger of slowing down. So, I focused on keeping up with a couple that had overtaken me shortly before. After 5km I overtook them and paced them for the next 3 km. The second half of the race went. Running felt less and less easy and I staretd to drift away from my pace. Finally, during the nineth km I seriously slowed down. During the last km I managed to regain some time, but still my finish time (55'19") was 20 seconds behind my goal. Although I didn't meet my goal, I am pretty happy with the race. For the first race over this distance after a long time, I couldn't expect too much. The race has shown me that I should to focus on my endurance. Therefore, I will keep my expectations for the upcoming halfmarathon pretty low. Another thing, I have felt yesterday is that I missed my CR Montreal friends. It makes such a huge difference when you are not alone in the race or somebody is waiting at the finish line. Take care Ralf P.S.: Happy birthday Grommit. I was thinking of you a lot yesterday since I had looked through my old race results and was reminded of the Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue race, were you dragged me all along to one of my best running performances. Could have used some dragging yesterday.

Amazing... amazing (pic of the horseys running with the people) I don't know if I'd freak out or something but that is kinda cool...SO... speaking of multisport... yesterday I cycled, ran, rollerbladed and swam. The blading was a means of transportation and so was the run, with a few extra miles tacked on to make it worthwhile... Is Grommit running Boston?

Hi everyone!Well I have another question about a race. I was supposed to do the Lasalle race a couple of weeks ago but finaly never enrolled because I finished C25K last week-end. Now I am looking into another race to do my first 5k. I was checking out the "Defi du Printemps" of the YMCA Hochelage-Maisonneuve and was wondering if anyone of you had run it before. I think that it would be a nice run to do because I used to live accross from that YMCA but at the same time I saw the map of the race and am affraid that the hill will be too much for a first 5k. Thanks! Any ------------------ There is nothing you can't see yourself doing. [This message has been edited by lifeany (edited Apr-01-2007).]

Hi Any,I did run the "Defi du Printemps" together with some other MTL Coolrunners (I remember Mars, KJ and Truxx, as well as Df operating my camera). Like most of us I ran the 10k (IIRC only one of us did the 5k AND the 10k) but this probably doesn't matter. The course is beautiful and the event was sufficiently well organized (be there in time to find the starting line). I wouldn't be afraid of the hill. I don't remember it as that bad. As an alternative, you might think of the "Defi Westmount" (Now called YMCA Westmount Puma challenge) on April 29. This is one of the nicest and best organized races I have seen in Montreal. I ran there my first race ever and I won twice in the post-race tombola. Admittedly the Westmount course has one or two steeper sections. [But you still have 4 weeks for hill training ]. Anyway, keep us posted Any. Ralf ------------------ Follow your nose [This message has been edited by RalfM (edited Apr-01-2007).]

Tag Ralf - great to hear from you and racing as well. You didn’t mention your leg so I hope that is a done issue for you. Will you be visiting us this summer ? I understand what you are saying about running and racing with the other cr folk. Put in another long run early today in the hood, too much to do afterwards to spend time going into town. It was cold and windy when I left the house but still met a runner wearing shorts, brhh… I should be able to complete the half in three weeks, how quickly, I’m not expecting miracles. My leg is sore after long runs which will play into my plans for the remainder of the summer. DR - excellent news on the bike and I like your workout schedule. Sally – saw your lovely face on tv last twice, the commercial you told us about on your blog. You're running again..yeah !! Mercury – Gag – how was the race – horses ? Roly – Easygo – how was the run on the mountain today ? Helloooo birthday boy, you survive the weekend ? Hope everyone enjoyed the break in the weather, have a good week.

Well it's done... I've just signed up for my first 5k. It's weird, I never thought I would be nervous for siging up for a race that is going to take place in a month and a half. I'm going to do the Defi du Printemps at the YMCA in Hochelaga. Now I just have to be able to run 5k before race day... Thanks Ralf for the information on the race! Have a nice day! Just make sure you come to Hurley's Pub on Crescent below Ste-Catherine this Tuesday at 7pm so that we can congratulate you on this big step in person. Don't be shy. I hadn't even run with any CR Montrealers before I went and met them at a Hurley's get-together, and I had already had a dream about Mr. Lambchops! Please come out to join us in food, drinks, laughter, and of course, stupid and silly even inspiring running stories and dreams! We're really friendly! Sally

Ralf, Congrats on your first 10 k back to running.Any, congrats on registering for your first 5k it's a big deal. But be very carefull you may get addicted like some of the nuts on this forum. Df, whohoo 3 weeks to go I may come down and cheer you on. But since it is on my B-day I may not be in very good condition so I'lll cheer quietly. Grommit, Your up and runnin, didn't hear from you so I thought you either were still ahurtin. Or removed the "retired" from the "retired partyboy" for your b-day week-end. Week-end went very well, 3 hrs 40 min on the mountain Saturday, going up down and around and around and around the trails, hell I got dizzy. Today spent an hour and change with Easygo ran up the old carriage road one loop around the cross and back down. Easygo did two loops. my legs felt Ok it's the rest of me was tired. Saw Mr. TB training very hard on our way down the Mountain.. Got in an hour and 15 minutes on the spin bike this evening. Good night Roly

I finally went to that 6 mile race in VA with Merc and co. MERC, I FORGOT MY TUQUE IN THE TRUNK OF THE CAR! (don't know if you could get it before Hurley's Tuesday, if not, foggetaboutit).Very scenic route in rural Vermont, very local and very good runners. Phoenix club was well represented. Not too muddy. I started very fast and did my first mile downhill in 6:45. That was fast, I know, and slowed down a bit in the next mile. But then came that brutal never ending hill and I lost there all the time I had accumulated. Afterwards it was ok and recovered well. I knew it was not the place for a PB, but it gave me an idea for Ottawa. The real test will be in Mtl half in 3 weeks. I would have preferred 43 but got 44:15 instead. Merc did well as usual and arrived at 40 and a few seconds. But I enjoyed the course anyway, it's challenging and I like those very local little races, je les trouve sympathiques.
