If Chops can come back for a post, so can I...Been very, VERY busy. The project is opening in 74 days. 15-hour days are becoming routine, and so are 7-day weeks. I did need to take 3 days off 2 weeks ago... Mrs. Mountmars needed emergency surgery for the removal of her appendix. That went well. Post-surgery recovery did not. Her breathing collapsed and she was coughing her huge amounts of blood. 2 days of blood-thinners and multiple tests to see if she had blood clots in her lungs later, the medical team attributed the problem to a nasty reaction to the general anesthesia and lots of fluid in her lungs. The blood probably came from ruptured blood vessels that broke while her body was trying to force out all those fluids. The incisions still hurt from time to time, and the breathing is good. She spent the whole day out with me yesterday, coming to work for a few hours, shopping, and meeting family for dinner. She's well on the way to recovery. Needless to say, my next opportunity for a Montreal trip will likely be October. Take care all. Mars

About an 1 hour and 15 minutes today in pretty much the same snow conditions as yesterday but flat terrain. Ran thru fresh snow on some trails and thru areas where maybe one or two people passed before me. I must admit the mind was much more willing then the body and power hiked about 35% of the outing.
Nap time. I'm dead tired now. Day off tomorrow yipee

Mars: Sending positive vibes to the Mrs. Recover well. The conditions today made the long run really difficult as compared with last week. Last week, it felt as if I received 50% discount in terms of effort. Today, I had to pay full price. Snowy patches, ice and wind were things that I had to contend with. Argh.. I thought winter was behind us. I hope the conditions will be better next weekend in Hamilton. Went home and napped. Ah... that feels good. Think I'll do some more. TB

Lamb: welcome backMars: all the best for the mrs TB: good luck for next weekend. The weekend after, are you doing a long run? Had a great long one in cap Tourmente a day after the storm. Three 8.5 km loops, the first one on the snow, the second one on snow and asphalt, the third one on asphalt only. I had almost forgotten that winter stay with us until April 15. We still have one month to go folks. But it could be good too. Tomorrow, instead of running, I'll try a few slopes on mt Ste-Anne. Yahooooo!

Mars. Terrible situation for the missus. I hope she recovers well and leaves in perfect health! How are the masocist men doing, following their "easy" / recovery day? I have two beautiful blood blisters on my right foot to go along with my neuroma. Why do they say that the TM is easier than the roads? No way! Actually, even though it was a marathon race pace, the 13.1 miles that I did was relatively easy, in 1:30:30. Heart rate started to climb to 85% near the end though. Question is, will it stay there and allow me to keep the pace the rest of the way? Keep sloggin' Ninja. Paris s'approche-vite!

I've just read in a French (from France) thread that during marathon training, your long run is never over 2:15. What a change compared to training programs in the U.S. where 20+ milers are common.Personnally, my long runs for the 10 weeks before taper are between 13 and 20 miles (and a 22 miler 3 weeks before the marathon). What about your longs runs and who's right? The French or the Americans?

Neither. Take it from the Irish, the fewer the better. I never venture over 2 hours @ 7:30-8:00/mile, which is about 30 seconds to a minute slower than race pace (for a 3hr. / 26.2). Better yet, sleep in & skip the long run, or as an alternative, go to the mountain & watch Gro & Roly chugging 'round & 'round & round & round.............

I try to avoid training altogether. We all get the same finishing medal, and even with training, I'll never get age group like superhuman Mercury. Mars: M-A-R-S!! Good to hear from you, but I was hoping it would be under better circumstances ... positive healing vibes to Mrs. MM ... hugs and kisses too, well no kisses, since I'm still out with a cold ... From my fat bottom, let me try an answer: 2:15 but at what pace ? The big difference between US & Europe programs seems to be LSD pacing. From 5k to Ultra, median times are ending up much faster in french races. More club runners, less just-want-to-finish folks, no charity people the bulk of US programs are aiming at. Merc's LSD pace is not your whistle-in-the-park. Remember the 5000 quebec athlete (don't remember her name.. she killed herself in a car accident last year) ? She was preparing for NY & was barely over 20k with a couple of months left. Fast folks are doing shorter faster LSD. Leave alone now.

.... it's all relative ya'know..... like merc... I have no intention of running more than about 33% of my target race time as a training run, what for?....... as for pace: mine will vary between 3 & 12 mph.... depending if I'm goin' up or comin' down....and as for the range of target time....give or take 25% is OK, .....so many variables, best not to worry! [really there ain't that many in a marathon....] .... as for the medals..... only the fast folk get one! the rest get a pbj sandwich & a tee shirt... which is OK too!chops i.o.u. a "whiteface"....... g&g

Genou - ?? Lasalle ? I’ll possibly be dans l’assistance so I can hold on to things if its needed.

HI ! mr.Lampchops you were referring to Emily Mondor she was from Mascouche. She believed that human were effecient bipede.Training time: Having run in a couple of race in France, there is more runners and those who run... man there going for it. Same thing in New Zealand. So I guess (?) that training time are faster, more intense, requiring shorter long run. It's a bit early but... sunday morning should be a beautiful one. See ya, Easygo
