Hi everybody ! Not much happening in terms of running for me lately ! Still cross-country skiing on the weekend, a bit of shuffling snow. Managed 2 runs last week and none this week. Very lame, but work and family are requesting more time lately. Roly you're making big progress. This saturday should be very nice for any outside activity. By the way, Roly, come spring when the ski is out, there's a good chance that i'll be able to start early on the weekend.

Life of the multi-tasking week-end warrior athlete. Cool I'm going to need a lot of week-end early morning runs in the spring to get me ready for my next race in June. "THE BIG REVEAL" After tomorows Hypothermic Half which I'll run as a organized training run and a big brunch afterwards. I'll have sixteen weeks to prepare for this race basically I'm using this run as an exploratory ino the ultra world and see if I can finish within the 14 hour timeframe: "Pittsfield Peaks Ultra Challenge. June 9, 2007 Course: Start at the covered bridge and cross Rte. 100 to tackle four of the peaks: Wilcox, Hedge Hog, Carmel, and Darning Nettle. South Hill and Riverside are behind the farm. Course will take you on Country Roads, Snowmobile Trails, Single Track Trails and bushwacking. Each summit will be marked from the bridge to the summit. 12,000 feet of elevation change over 50 miles of rugged terrain. Pittsfield Peaks Elevations Wilcox - 1970 feet Carmel - 2760 feet Hedgehog Knoll - 1290 feet Darning Nettle - 2380 feet Riverside - 990 feet South Mt - 1280 feet Rules: Prior to leaving the covered bridge runners will chose which mountain you would like to tackle. There will be a designated item for each mountain. Each runner must summit the mountain with their item. Drop item off with volunteer and return to the start. You may return the same route or make your own route back to the start. " This is why I have been running 3.5 - 4 hours of trails on the the week-ends. Grommit has been great with advise, motivation and running Mount Royal trails together. [This message has been edited by rolyone (edited Feb-16-2007).]

Sure can. I guess 50 miles in daylight = 30 + miles of night pacing.

I'm in mtl, I didn't bandit the hypothermic half, so I'll go in a minute for an easy 22km at the mountain. You ultra guys are fascinating, but it's too much for me. I still prefer training for a good ol' marathon.

Morning Gag. I concur with you. marathon is more than enough, actually too much for these old bones. I prefer the 10K- ahlf's. Short & sweet so the pain goes away fast. Roly. You got the gutsman! Actually I wasn't planning on being a bandit, I was going to cheer on my friends, but when I saw the weather forcast, I realized that if I wanted to do a long run later today, I needed to keep the giblets warm. I am planning on taking the 211 bus past Beaconsfield and running back with the wind! It's moins 17 on the kill chill so the wind to the back is imperative. 8-8:30-9:00 am runs are just too cold for me. You will all understand when you are old! (right Gro?)

Hi All,Just got back from the hypothermic half, Nice course and view of downtown Montreal. Met up with TB and his friend. TB did very well with the sometimes slippery conditions and headwinds. MY race I started off at 4.55 km/pace and quickly realized that I would not be able to keep up that pace for long. The legs felt like lead today so I eased back and enjoyed the run. Finished in 2 hours and a few seconds. Legs feel pretty good right now and may be able to join the group for about an hours run up the mountain tomorrow. I'll see when I wake up that may be another story. quote: Originally posted by runningag: You ultra guys are fascinating, but it's too much for me. I still prefer training for a good ol' marathon.

Ran the Hypothermic half with Roly and my friend Peter. The temperature was a balmy -7 but as mentioned by Roly, the occasional headwind and slippery conditions made the race more difficult that it need be. It's been a difficult week so running this event was a pleasant distraction. Despite not having trained specifically to run a half marathon it was meant to used as an evaluation with two months remaining prior to the marathon. Shin splint on my left leg was not bothering me as much as the plantar fasciatis on my left foot. Didn't sleep too well so I ran the race that I had in me. I was pleasantly surprised to catch up to Roly 2km into the race. Roly thanks again for the lift back to town. Summary of race: http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/episode/view.do?episodePk.pkValue=2092533# Happy Chinese New Year to everyone. May the year of the pig bring you joy and prosperity. TB

My heart was with you today TB. I am sure you needed the break from stuff. Well done Roly! Where can find the results of this race? I have searched every conceivable site with no luck. Are the organizers trying to keep it a secret? Decided at the last minute not to bandit. My hamstring & forefoot neuroma are becoming more of a problem each day. Very perplexing. Cannot get in the mileage I need for Boston. Frustrating! Ran 70 minutes of what was supposed to be 90 minutes but couldn't tolerate the aching hamstring any longer, so called it a day! Was a nice day for running as long as you had the wind behind you.

TB & Merc hurting? you fast boys need less asphalt Sal, talking of decathalons...... my little sister had the hots for this dude back in the early 80's..... the man was a total machine! .hey mollasses....wot happened to your 1:45 target? we need details.... you missed a killer run in the powder on the mountain yesterday..... sublime 3:38 , home to top & back with 5 loops..... going back for another couple of hours today, will keep an eye out for SS & co. tho there's only about 100 yds where I'll be on the regular path..... although I might just head down to the monument if the mood grabs me .... I think Truxx needs a trail race.... have a wonderful sunday G&G [This message has been edited by grommit at least 27 times (edited Feb-18-2007).]

I took the advise you gave last week when you told me "not to race it just run it as a training run. I'll try it at the Nike half (whatever it's called this year) on my Birthday April 22, 2007.
