Hello everybody ! I'm new on the forum, but you know me. Now that we, at home, have internet I thought that I could join in from time to time. First I had to find a user name, The neighbor came to mind, but it was too... 450. Then crosstrainee, but when I submited the name to my wife well ... I had no reaction. So easygo, reflects my philosophy of running and training in general. By now, some of you might recognize me. So anyway, back to running. Nice run this morning, -17c, snow going, swic, swic. About 14 km. Doing a lot of cross country skiing on the last three weekend up north. Eh! Roly I can lent you a pair of snowshoe and head for the trail for a couple of hours, it's a good workout !!! see you all !

Welcome to our crazy little board, Stephane. Looking forward to running with you once we get our regular group runs together (i.e. when it gets a bit warmer). Df: Feeling any better? I haven't the foggiest how I ever had the time to train for Ironman. I can't even seem to fit in a half hour workout everyday. It's killing me. KJ, I miss your living so close to me ... gave me a reason to drag my butt out of the bed before 7am. Sigh ... Sally ------------------ "Follow your bliss" My Ironwoman Inklings

Bienvenue on board Easygo Beautiful winter day out there, no running for me but took munchkin and niece to a local outdoor spot to skate while grandmaman walked about with her cane....luv seeing the three generations like that..didn't have the stamina required for the hour and change run I had scheduled. If you haven't been out yet, shame on you... Hey Sally, was a little concerned last evening that my meds weren't helping as much as I thought they should....today not bad. Now IronGoddess, you have to find some time to get out to run. Have a good week everyone, February around the corner.

Welcome Easygo Neighbor, Snowshoeing trails sounds like fun. I'm just going to refrain from any icy mountain trails. I've gotten spooked from last years fall in NY. Perfect weather (Sunny, -11 C, no wind) at noon today ran about 12k on nice compacted snow trails in the woods near home. Lots of couples OUT walking their dogs. 3 weeks to go for the hypothermic half in Montreal. I feel ready. I bought a pair of generic orthodics at the Pharmacy and it seems to help reduce the back pain i've been suffering1 Rest day tomorrow,

The hypothermic half is SOLD OUT!! That's one thing I don't like about our great city. We always have to plan. Want to register in a race 3 weeks before? Sold Out. Want to see a play next weekend? Sold Out. Want to go to a restaurant tonight? Nothing between 5 and 11 p.m.Hard to be spontaneous! BTW anybody intend to run Ile Bizard on Feb. 12? I might be in town that weekend. You guys know about this race? How is it? Is it Sold Out? Anyway. I did a great long run this morning, a bit cool, but not that bad. And it's official now, I'm in for Ottawa.

What? 30 to 35 miles a week and then, all of a sudden, 42? According to my marathon plan, I would reach that number in one month. Why that sudden surge?

OOPS you noticed that huh. well I actually calculated my milage and realized my milage was a little more then I had thought Jan.15-21 ran 35 miles. Jan 22-28 ran 37 miles. So actually 42 is about a 10% increas for this week. next week I cut back.

I figure I'll start running five weeks before the Ottawa Marathon and then hit 42 miles the second last week before. Should be enough to get me a better time than Roly. Recovery should be quick too, will be back slothing within a few days. Roly: I love you too babe. Sally ------------------ "Follow your bliss" My Ironwoman Inklings

Hello all, I have been keeping up on all of your posts... way to go everyone. TB: What's the countdown? DF: Are you training for something specific?I have been doing the reading (of the posts), but I have not been running. I have only done about 3-4 runs since the new year. Things have just been crazy busy at work, and at home. I have still been playing hockey however, so I am not just turning into a lump. In other news. I may have lost my best running partner. Some of you may know my beagle - Titus. Last Friday, he suddenly started showing signs of being in major pain. Went to the vet, and was told he has a slipped disc in his lower back. He got a shot of an anti-inflammatory, and a prescription for further doses. By Sunday, his condition had worsened, and I spent a good chunk of the evening/night at a 24hour veterinary hospital. Had a bunch of x-rays done, alot of poking and prodding, and was told that the anti-inflammatory was skewing the tests, but he was also showing signs of torn ligaments in his knee. We made an appointment for the next morning and met with an orthopaedic surgeon. As it turns out, he has a herniated disc in his lower back and requires one of the most expensive surgery on the market - about 5000$, plus an "MRI" test to locate the exact point where they need to operate - for another 1000$. So Monday's question of the day was "how much is your (5 year old) dog worth to you? After a number of phone calls, and some internet research, we found a veterinary school (WAY) out in the rural outskirts of town (Ste. Hyacinthe) where they will do the procedure for about 3000$ (including use on the country's newest/most advanced MRI machine). As it stands now, we are awaiting news of the MRI results and then scheduling news of the operation. In the long term, we are told that his recovery should be about 6 weeks, and that we need to keep him from a) Jumping ( which he does to massive excess), and b) climbing stairs (of which we have several). He should be able to run again in the future, but not any really long distances. Nothing was done specifically to cause the injury, it was a very long time coming combined with the equivalent of one of us stepping off the curb the wrong way and twisting an ankle. At the time we first noticed it, he running around the back yard in very hard and uneven snow, so we figured he took a bad step there somewhere. I will try to keep you updated on his progress. Thanks Mitch A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself. Josh Billings (1818 - 1885)

.... well Mitch Titus is in safe hands,.... my last dog was a golden retriever called "Charlotte" who had a habit of drinking puddles.... I had donated Charlotte to a buddy of mine who lived on Ile Bizard, after my ex. gave me the "either that effin dog goes or I do!" routine [I honestly wish I kept the dog]. So, my buddy used to walk her[the dog, not my ex.] on the St Raphael Golf course.... anyway she drank a puddle laced with herbi/insectacide which basically caused her red blood count to fall within inches of death..... she too was rushed to the St Hyacinthe vets hospital where she was saved by an army of Dr's..... blood transfusions, AZT, the works ...... priceless ..... but for this trip to the vets my buddy spent all his savings +/- $5K.... man did I feel bad about...... she lived to a grand old age of 14...... I still miss her .... gomez says hi & get well soon to Titus Grommit

Good morning everyone,Cold weather will ease up today and tomorrow...good news, despite the fact that we haven't had a typical winter. JB- I can't believe the whole thing with Titus. Let us know how he makes out. As for training for anything in particular - I'd like to do the Mtl 1/2 in April but haven't signed up yet. Leg is better then its been in a while so I'll see. Hope the Missus and the girls are doing well.

JB: My thoughts are with you and Titus at this time. Thanks for sharing and keep us posted.Mercury: Following April, I'm aiming for the 10km in Laval on May 20th (Grand Prix dynamique). That will mark the beginning the of my, "10km" season. Hopefully by then I will have bounced back from April. I'm hoping to run a 10km race once a month. I'd like to run Whiteface as well. I'll throw my name in the lottery hat for the NYC marathon. As for April, I've been fortunate that I've been able to run consistently and injury free. A few aches and some tightness in my left achilles heel but nothing insurmountable. Work has been busy but stable enough to permit a steady training regiment. Family demands are increasing so most run are done in the morning before work. The recent cold snap is not doing any favours in the training department. As for the diet, argh... too much holiday stuffing is turning me into, TB - Turkey Boy Have a good day everyone. TB
