Hey folks,

We're heading to Vegas in a week and I am wondering about some local running. I was thinking of running on the 'old' strip but not sure if it is 'safe' in the early mornings.

I was thinking that Red Rock is an option for trail running - or is it a protected park area?

For bearings, we are staying at the Mirage - any neat routes I could run to would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I posted the same question a month or so ago and received a few responses. Basically, everyone said "go to Red Rock". I ran the strip around 6-7am and it was fine and actually really fun!

I was in Vegas in December and my husband and I had a great time running on the strip. We did 8 miles one day - from Mandalay Bay to the Stratosphere and back - and 5 another day. Go early enough to avoid bad crowds, but I think it's really a lot of fun to run on the strip. Having said that, I've never been to Red Rock but I've always wanted to.

Have fun!

Leslie

Same here, I ran the Strip early in the morning as well and didn't have any problems. Did run past one group on their way after a long night. As I passed them I heard one of them say, "look at that damned fool, he's run all the way down the Strip and back." Made my day, LOL.

I've also run into people who are obviously still out partying from the night before. They look so surprised to see someone running! It's really hysterical.

Have fun in Vegas!

Well, the suitcases (and running shoes) are packed and we take off tomorrow morning.

I am planning on trying the run lesliek mentions - from Mandalay Bay to the Stratosphere and back - and see how that goes. I find we wake pretty early when we are in Vegas, so that won't be an issue getting onto the Strip before it is too crowded.

I'm still itching to run around the red rock area as I like to do some trail running when possible, as a form of 'cross training' on a more uneven terrain.

With all the walking we do each day, I imagine I'll run 2 maybe 3 times in the week we are there to not overdo it.

Thanks for the replies once again!
