Since it's been so cold up there, (and so warm down here, mid-80s the last few days), and the beautiful spring weather has brought along some spectacular sights that are rarely seen by people that don't live in the desert, I thought I would share with you some pictures of a cactus in bloom. BTW, this lasts one day... and we'll see it again next year if the conditions are right. Enjoy.

you make it sound so easy ... how do you GET to that pace? Mars: thanks for sharing ... spectacular. BTW, how far did Chops and I run tonight? We did the traditional Da Hood run. What is the max elevation? What is the elevation at the bottom of Mont-Royal where we climb up Camilien Houde? If someone would know these stats, I figured it would be you. Chops and I ran it in about 1h22 ... thanks Chops for waiting for me and not taking off, 'cept at the end when I told you to. Ouch those cramps! At one point, folks, I had both shin and calf cramps on one leg, and a hamstring cramp on the other. Dang these other sports that use other muscles ... interfering with my running ... Going swimming tonight ... but first some liquid for a dehydrated me, and some home-made Chinese food ... Sally ------------------ "Follow your bliss" My Ironwoman Inklings

I am tempted to run with you guys tonight, esp. Sally, but I'll have to test out the knee later on. Hope to be there but don't for me. If I'm not there at 6:00 sharp I've headed to the pool instead. Great running day everyone!
I know the feeling... I've been poolrunning for a month and a half now. The pool at the gym I'm at is pretty much free almost all day long except from 7-8am on tuesdays and thursdays... otherwise 6:30am to 8pm Monday to friday.

Wow DR. What gym are you at? Maybe they can use a PFT? I could then go for a free swim/run like at the Y where I work occasionally. Do they take Trainers?Sorry I didn't join you Sally & Chops. The knee is still too bruised. I knew when I went down the stairs here at home. I will try the TM tomorrow at a much reduced pace, until I get the mojo back.

Hallelujah !! Its Friday AND the weather should be nice for a change. Thanks for the reading guys, the Boston race report left me indifferent, despite the impressive training and finish times, there was something missing ?.. Roly –thanks for the link, it would be great if you could do something like this with a member of the family. Something to remember. Mars – fabulous pics but stop going on about the weather you are having at your end, its really not kind of you. Last night while Chops and Sally were tearing up da Hood, I joined a small group from the MAA for work on the outdoor track at McGill. The sunlight and bright blue sky were beautiful but it was cold, had a tough time with that, sat in the sauna for the longest time after, wasn’t feeling so good. The same thing happened to me on Tuesday night when I tried for a mountain run, by the time I got to the lake, the wind was ripping down Olmsted, I u turned and headed back to the gym. Tonight, pool, tomorrow, hopefully a slow hood cycle. Can someone recommend a pedometer (?) is that what its called for my bike – something that is easy to use and doesn’t cost a fortune. All these different interests are costing a lot . Sally, Sunday, the monument for 9 ? Are you still planning that ? JB, can you join in on the fun ? Gag, would be nice to see you even if its only the back of you for a minute before you zoom off. Knee ? how about it ? TB – where have you disappeared too ? Ralf, good to hear from you, sound busy, looking forward to your visit next month. Grommit – got time for a funny today ? – that doesn’t include guns ? Bonne fin de semaine everyone - df

Wish I could join on Sunday, but I'll be in Church praying for my soul. Actually I'll be all suited up sitting, standing and kneeling in the pew watching my Neice get confirmed. REST DAY today. Tomorrow a long not so slow run at a little closer to race pace to see how the legs, lung and old sorry a$$ will hold up or down. Df I should warn my little bro that I may need his help (so he can start training) when I go visit him in San Diego in 2007 or 2008. (part of my wish list for now). Enjoy your day. Roly

Wow Mars. How fortunate you are to have all that beauty all around at this time of the year. I did notice though, that the leaves are beginning to sprout here in NDG so things are looking up.As for running, can't do it yet. My rehab has been set back by a nagging, unco-operative left knee that won't accept any ground contact. Did the Eliptical (ET) today for 45 minutes with HR in the 165 range. Quite a workout. Why is it that the bottom of my feet always burn when I do the ET? Maybe tomorrow I'll try out my new Reeboks on terra firma. It's nice out there folks. Just be aware of the wind on your out & back. Trying to keep up with you Roly, but i'm backsliding.

Well, if you run fast enough, you can cause a flux in the time space continuem, and while you may not notice that you've gone into the future, your soreness will, and you will recover.

1. Yeah, I noticed the burning/numbess on the eliptical as well once I started bumping up the intensity... If you're elipticalling at a HR of 165 I assume you are going at a pretty high intensity/resistance level. I've cut down on the eliptical and spend a little more time in the pool now. 2. Make sure the knee problem is not irritated by the intensity/time you spend on the eliptical as I suspect it was for me. My theory is because you are in good cardio shape you need to bump up the resistance pretty high to get your HR into a good training range but the resistance it's applying on your knee is much higher and different than you are used to when you are running. Just my 2 cents worth. I'm out rollerblading today as it is hot and sunny!

Got my long run in today. The plan was to see if I could run that distance at a little faster then my usual long run pace. I was able to run it a bit faster but not as planned. I felt heavy and a bit sluggish when I started and had a small muscle cramp at the top of my foot that went away after 8 k. All in all I'm happy with todays run 33 k total in 3:18:29. To those running the mountain tomorrow, enjoy. I'm jelous cause I won't be able to go. Good Idear Truxx spreading out the text MERCI Roly

No... the thread is here for the MTL running community. People can post in whatever language they want and that they need. There is some French in some of the posts, and there are some posts in French. Everyone's happy, everyone's talking, and that's all that matters.

No, sorry, Mars, your post didn't make the new page, mine did ... ... well, at least on my computer screen. You guys all crack me up - the group jokes really make my day sometimes. So tired yesterday with the heavy workouts, I collapsed on the couch watching t.v. with my glasses on. Good thing I didn't roll over and end up bending them. No running or cycling for me today, just a leisurely swim. Hey, for those running tomorrow, please give a warm welcome from the runners from my MEETinMTL group. I haven't met them either, but it will be fun. Truxx: Doctor's orders? Merc & DR: Reason why I don't like or do elliptical or stairmaster: Hurts my knees, which I have had enough problems with. À demain!! 9h00 au monument!! Sally ------------------ "Follow your bliss" My Ironwoman Inklings
