Scott,
No Peachtree for me. I don't want to fight those crowds but I hear I'd be hooked if I tried it once.

Perry,
I went to the Silver Comet results and saw you received 1rst place in your age. Congrats. I also saw Bill ran a 7:20 something pace so he had a good race and 3rd place age trophy.

Josh,
A win is a win. Maybe you needed someone pushing you a little more. I'd like to get close to under 20 5K.

I've been tapering for the marathon this weekend and actually feel a lot less nervous than Tybee. My biggest concern is all the hills but I feel more prepared than before. Think about my dragging behind around 10am thru I hope 10:48. That would be a 1 minute PR. Great goal.

Steve

Scott,

I sent in my Peachtree app as well, but I think this year, I'm only going to run it for fun...although I say that now...I'm sure I'll change my mind before the race comes.

Steve,

Good luck with the marathon on saturday...two marathons in two months is a beast...your a better man for it than I am! Good luck!

Thanks guys. I feel ready but those temps are putting a little nervous scare into me. I'll still be out there when it's supposed to be warm.

Scott, I'm running 5K's too. 8 1/2 of them.

Josh, happy belated birthday.

Steve, let us know how you did.
Perry won the race and David Ladner came in 3rd overall. Jim Baldwin, Bill and I got 3rd in our age groups, and Zoe's wanting us all to dress as gladiators for Ekiden. Quite an eventful day!

Guys,
I completed the Cherry Blossom Mountain Climb Marathon but it wasn't pretty. That is one bear of a course. I would not recommend it for anyone looking to PR and if anyone hears me mentioning running it again, kick me hard in the butt.

I went out a little too fast and did the first mile in 8:15. My early goal was to hit a few 9mm and then bring it down to 8:45 through the half marathon marker. I slowed a little but obviously not enough as I made the half at 1:52:04 for a 8:32 pace. Little did I know that the first half was a lot less hilly than the second. I was feeling pretty confident at this point and had hopes of beating my Tybee time.

The second half of the race is a constant up and down of some sizable hills and by this time the temperatures were rising. I was dead by mile 21 or so and just tried to survive by playing mind games. Incredibly I passed a few people after this point and was only passed by one person that I remember. The best part of the race was the last 2/10's of a mile when I was sure I wouldn't DNF or die. Final time was 3:54:41 for a pace of 8:57.

Congratulations on your places in the 5K.

PS to above.

The race was well organized and support was all over the course and everyone quite friendly. The course is beautiful expecially viewed from a car.

I bet the 5K course was a great one to see too. Of course you were all probably moving too fast to see it.

Scott,
I went to the results of the Cherry Blossom and saw your time. You are doing some good times. Was that a pr?

What are you doing in your training?

Yes, that was a PR for me. I've been doing the intermediate 5K training program on this site, adapted slightly.
The address is... http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_0/141.shtml ....if you are interested. It's taken nearly a minute off my Cherry Blossom time from 1 year to the next, so i think it's pretty good!

Perry,

have a good trip to St. Louis and cheer extra loud for Turena Lane...she is from Statesboro and she is the head track and cross country coach at Georgia Southern..

As for everyone else...any of you guys racing at Gieco or in Perry tomorrow? I have yet to decide which I will do...I will do one of the two..but not sure which..

Geico's closer and later so i sent in my app for that one. Looks like it'll be COLD, I was hoping to retire the tights & the long sleeved coolmax! Such a shame Dogwood & Geico are at the same time.

David and I didn't make the flight to St. louis. All the flights were overbooked. We went to Perry instead. I ran a 17:43 to come in second behind Buddy Clark. I think he just broke 17. David ran a 19:54 for 7th overall.

I have the results for GEICO. I'll post them after I leave this site. Congratulations Josh! You would have taken Buddy today in Perry I'm sure. I guess I would have gotten second place no matter which race I chose. We were told by Felton Watson that the course was flat in Perry. So, that's where David wanted to go. I didn't think the course was very flat at all. Everyone was complaining about the last mile, but that was my fastest mile (5:34).

Scott, what happened with you and Bill? It looked like a close finish. Why didn't any of the FPD guys run?

I see the Georgia Southern coach was the second Georgian behind Beth Old at the Trials.

Perry, after Bill went out too fast at Cherry Blossom, I had a word with the boy! This time I kept him with me, and kept him at 6:50 pace for the first mile. Then we did 6:58 each for the next 2.He pulled away from me just before the last 1/10. It got him 1st Male Grand Master!
The Geico course was fairly flat, but at 2.5 miles had a short downnhill, then long gradual uphill finish. Friday night I went trail running with Kim, so my legs weren't as rested as they ought to have been.
Good race, though, 3 seconds over my chip time from Cherry Blossom, and considering my legs, I'm pleased.
Congratulations on the Perry Race.

I'm not so sure that the Geico course is that flat...or maybe I just had that playing on my mind...I'm not sure...but it felt to me like the first mile was all one long uphill. And when you take a right and have that half mile stretch that the 2 mile marker was on...that road was also one long uphill. And the finish was about 400m worth of a tough uphill...I really went to Geico for the competition because in past years there was usually a pretty good amount of competition...but I was alone from the Gun...I just have a tough time on that second mile when I'm running alone....I need to find someway to work on that part of my race. I think this is my last race for a few weeks...I'm about to start putting in some good speed workouts.

Just started the intermediate 10K program from this site, with Peachtree as the target race, and Kimberly just started the beginner 10K. I've tweaked her program to make it a little more aggressive on the speedwork. Mine was quite aggressive enough for me!
No races until Covington's YMCA 5K the Saturday after next, and no telling what that one will be like. Then the next week it's up to Hartwell for the Dam Run 10K. Memorial Day weekend will be the Georgia Games out at Central City Park, and that's it for me until I get back from England in mid June. That means missing the Peach Festival & the Torture Trail, but it'll be worth it!

Guys,
I think I'm in post marathon depression mode. My running is okay but it's harder to focus without a targeted race or date. I coach a 15-16 yo baseball team and it gets some of my running time but with a planned race fear will make me find the incentive.

I need to start some speedwork soon and put a race in my plans. What is The Goergia Games. Hadn't seen anything on that.

The Georgia Games is a little race put on by Steve Corkery at the Central City Park track, 3 loops and a little bit. Last year there were 19 runners. This year the wellness group I'm coaching is going to run/walk it as their target race, so maybe we can break 20 runners!

As far as I know, Steve hasn't set a date. But, it will probably be May 29th. If I can get a flight, I will be in Buffalo, NY running the Nissan Buffalo Half that weekend.

Steve said he was definite that May 29th was the date for the Ga Games. He didn't tell me what time it was going to start, though, but I'd guess no later than 8:00 in late May.

Well, the ATC has the 5 T shirts for Peachtree on their website, and frankly, I'm unimpressed by any of them. Maybe 5 is worth 25 cents for a long distance phone call to vote for it! What do you all think?

I like 1 and 5, I guess I like the "plain" ones...I'm not a big fan of the peachtree shirt...I dont wear really colorful shirts..and they usually are just that...
