Scott,
That was a little bit of an understatement. You know, it has gotten hillier than last year. Whoever designed that course probably doesn't run the race.

And the hills seem to go up both ways!

I believe that Steve Corkery designed the course after it moved from Lake Wilwood (also a hilly area). Steve typically looks at things from a director's point of view (less traffic hassles, fewer intersections to man, less law enforcment needed, a loop course to eliminate transportation problems, etc.). I think that he has only run the course once, and he had calf cramping problems from all the hills!!

I was only dissappointed with my results because I had run 40 seconds faster last year. But, at this phase of my training, the result was not that bad. The only problem I had with my knee was during my warm-up. It was fine during the race. I still may be favoring it a bit.

Perry, are you and I the only 2 who post under this topic who are going to CRR saturday? You are still going right?

Just thought I'd share this with you guys...because it ticked me off a little today. Althought the weather was wonderful today..I hated it...and the reason being...the first good day of weather after the winter...and the track seems to be the place to be! I had a speed workout today as well..and there must have been 30 people on the freakin track! And 9 out of 10 of them were your "I'm going to act like I exercise" people...the ones who will only do this once a year until this day rolls around again next year...so none of them knew the "unwritten laws of the track"...god only knows how many people I almost ran over....do you guys have any clue how hard it is to do a speed workout on the track with that many people out there....it wasn't fun...but I guess the more pissed I got..the faster it made me run...so maybe there was a bright side...sorry..just needed to vent..

Josh, I would run the CCR 10K if I thought I had a chance of dropping 5 minutes on my 10K for Peachtree, but that's not realistic at this point.
I know what you mean about your track complaint. Yesterday I was running 440s on Forsyth (running on the FPD track would embarrass my kids) and all the pairs of walkers would just hog the sidewalk and make me run around them onto the grass. No thought of stepping aside for the guy busting a gut.One thing though, my ticked off 440s were about 3 seconds faster than my un-ticked off ones!

I ran almost a two minute pr at CRR last year...it's a great course and the competition is about the best you'll find for a race in Georgia, except for Peachtree and Charles Harris (which is next weekend)...but I think CRR is faster than Charles Harris...just my .02 cents..

Like I said about the walkers...the only good thing about them being there was that it made me mad and could of helped me run a little faster than I would had I not been mad about them. I just hate how they act like I'm the one who should have to go out of my way...AHHH...the workouts over...I just need to let it go..hahaha...congrats on your races this past weekend..to all you guys..

Sometimes it helps to run in lane 1 the opposite way, so that you're running toward them. They always get out of my way when I'm running 12 MPH right at them! I know which way I'm supposed to run, but the fair-weather-exercisers don't know the rules anyway.

You would be suprised how many of them have asked me how many laps make a mile, or which lane the mile is measured in. I told David that we should start a rumor that a mile is 4 laps in the far outside lane.

How about the ones that want to ask you questions while you are running all out? "HOW MANY LAPS HAVE YOU RUN?" "ARE YOU RUNNING THAT PEACHTREE MARATHON?"

I'm glad I didn't sign up for the CRR. I've had a low grade fever the last 3 days and I can't shake it or the cough that came with it. I'm assuming training is off until I'm better, and how long should I wait until I start again? Advice?

I'm not known for my conservatism. But, I'd run as soon as your fever is gone. I would hold off on the speedwork, races, and long runs until you feel healthy again. But, easy runs under an hour should be fine. In fact, I usually feel better after a short, easy run when I'm under the weather.

Having said that, I had a cold Saturday when I ran the CRR 10K in the cool damp morning. Then, I stood around shivering for a while waiting for Randy & David. Now my throat is pretty scratchy, plus I ran a minute slower than last year, which was 40 seconds slower than the year before that.

They say that it's better to burn out than fade away...

Thanks, Perry. i'm signed up for Forsythia, and I'll just run that easy. Going to the doc in a box today, think I'll get on antibiotics, and I'll just take it easy this week.

Who's all going to run Forsythia? I'm going to jog it with Kimberly and try to rabbit her to a PR, or at least get her under 30:00. I know Perry will be at his home race.

I haven't made up my mind if I'll race this weekend or not....Dylan is going to go run the Super Dolphin Days 10k in St. Simons...I thought about doing 1 of 3 things...1. Just running it easy and pacing him to a good time, 2. Just running it as a tempo run, 3. Racing it....althought I'm not even sure if I'll go or not..Dublin is the big one for me and it's next weekend..

I have a sinus infection and my alergies are also acting up pretty bad, the doc gave me something to take for it..and I seem to feel a little better today...my nose wont stop running..but atleast I can breath now...I did a 4 mile tempo run last night at right around 5:30 pace...so maybe missing the past few days hasnt' hurt me that bad.

Well, the weather is supposed to be good tomorrow for the race. I think I have enough volunteers so that I can run the race if I want. I'm not sure if I will run or not. David has an infection from a root canal he had done on Tuesday. So, he probably won't run.

Scott,

I talked to April Willingham, who helps out with the FPD track team (and will be helping with registration tomorrow), and she said that John and Chad may come. Has John been ahead of Chad in the 2 mile on the track? I few of my cross country runners will be running. The best one is a 5:15 miler.

John is wanting to take his car to a couple of body shops for estimates, so he's passing on Forsythia. Also, he'll miss Cherry Blossom for the SAT. He's doing pretty well in track, but Chad's doing even better. Kelly's running 1600 & 800. Scott Cope (9th) beat Kelly in the 800. FPD look strong again.

Perry, how did your race go saturday? I did go to St. Simons..and just ran what felt easy in the 10k and finished in 33:52 for an easy win...the weather was perfect over there...that race is amazing...I would still suggest that race to everyone...it's worth the trip...

I was 35 seconds slower than last year. Clint Watkins won, and I was second. He led from the start and I just could not close the gap. I'll be launching into VO2 max workouts in a few weeks. So, I'm hoping all the tempo runs, hills, and long runs have laid a good foundation to build speed on.

I'll be running the Silver Comet 10K on Saturday. My goal is to run sub 36. But, I'm running a 6 mile tempo run this morning with David (well, he'll be doing 800 meter repeats at 5K pace at the beginning of each of my miles). Hopefully I'll be recovered from the workout by Saturday.

I've always subscribed to the theory of building toward goal races, instead of training at a constant level year-round. So, at this point in my training, I'm pleased with the progress.

Anyone else running the Silver Comet?

Has anyone run the Lake Hartwell Dam Run 10K? It's running over the Savannah River Bridge to South Carolina and back to Georgia across the Lake Hartwell Dam. Sounds like a fun event.

Scott,

I've always wanted to go run that race...it just usually falls on a bad weekend...I think it's on the same weekend as the Knotty Pines race in Swainsboro...which is a favorite of mine..and it's a lot closer..

I'm going to be going to Dublin for the 5k on saturday...so maybe I'll see some of you guys there.

Another Tankard has joined the ranks of the runners. My daughter Anna's name was called as 3rd place in the girls 800 meters yesterday in her JV track meet. She had finished the 1600 meters only 10 minutes previously with a 7:49, but she did well even though she was exhausted.
The night before John got a PR of 10:47 in the 3200 meters, and later on got a PR of 5:04 in the 1600 meters.
Have a good weekend folks!

Congratulations to Anna & John!

I ran the Silver Comet this morning. My goal was to get back under 36. The clock said 35:59 when I went under it. My watch said 36 flat. I'm hoping that I was a little slow in hitting the stop button on my watch. 35:59 sounds so much better than 36.

I saw Bill Harrison at the Silver Comet. I'm not sure what he ran. David ran a 41:55.

If my tempo run goes well on Tuesday, I'll be at the Cherry Blossom 5K on Saturday. Then, it's off to St. Louis to watch the Women's Olympic Marathon Trials and running the half the next day.

Congrats Perry, maybe things are starting to pay off for you..

I ran the Leprechaun 5k in Dublin yesterday...thats one tough course...I won the race by 50 seconds and ran 16:30...but my legs were shot and I felt like crap the whole race... not sure what the future of racing holds for me right now.
