There's a link on this page and if you fill out the form they'll email you when the photos are available.

Scott,

I got the e-mail about the photos. But, I can't remember my race number. What was your number? Maybe mine was within 4 numbers of yours.

Kim was 36, I was 38. There was a pic of Kim, but I don't think there's one of you because you slapped hands with Kim before you got to where the cameraman was. He didn't stay to take picures of the marathon finishers, he figured on catching them at the turnaround.
You can make you out in Kim's pic. There wasn't one of Jim, as he stopped at mile 6 and there's not one of me because the cameraman had gone home by the time I finished.

There was one of Coach Cranford..and you can see me because I'm standing beside him...but there isn't one of me....I was number 249...and the web site didnt' pull anything up with that number..so I'm guessing there isn't one.

Whats up next for you guys? My next race I think will be the 12k in Centerville.

I may do the Spartan 5K on that weekend, to try to get a fast 5K time. But it's hard to resist the 12K with it being a shorter drive. I'll decide as it gets closer.

David and I are planning to go watch the Olympic Marathon trials in Birmingham on Feb. 7th, then run the half the next day. By the course profile, it's not an easy half marathon. So, I'm not expecting a PR or anything. I wish Alan would have made the 2:22 qualifier. It would be great to be able to cheer on one of our locals.

Perry, there is a 5K at the Run for Sight, and then there's the Mackintosh 5K at Indian Springs the next day. I'm going to try to do both if weather and knees permit.

Perry, if your looking for a fast 5k, I'm sure you know this..but the one in Centerville is flat..just boring! If they keep McIntosh the same as it was last year..thats a tough course...the Spartin isn't so much a quick course..but usually draws a fast crowd..so you can run fast times there...I ran it last year and at that time..it was my 5k PR...so if your not running the 12k in Centerville..then I'd say go with the Spartin..

I just got back from a good 3 mile tempo run with David at the track. It was a little windy, but that's the best tempo run I've done in quite a while. However, my knee acted up on me at the start. I had to step off the track and start over. I believe that I have a mild MCL strain from my skiing trip. Running in a straight line is no problem, but sudden starts and sharp turns throw the knee off and I can't run on it.

Having said that, I'll probably opt for one of the flat courses in Centerville, as opposed to the steep last downhill mile at the Spartan 5K.

It's off to Birmingham next week for the Olympic Trials and the Mercedes Half Marathon. Maybe David or I will win the Mercedes M Class that they will be having a drawing for. That would be the ultimate road race "door prize."

For the last 3 weeks I've been religiously following the CoolRunning intermediate 5K training regimen. I've also been laying off the soccer and doing speedworkat the FPD track. Also doing some hillwork intervals. During my runs I'm making sure I do my last 1&1/2 miles at sub 8:00 pace, and my 3 mile training pace is down to low 23s on a route that includes some good hills. Mileage up to 25/week, and so far (knock on wood) no injuries, and just a little soreness in the mornings. My target race is the Cherry Blossom 5K, and I seem well on track for finally busting 22:00, if I can stay healthy. I'll be using the Centerville 12K and the Al Tol 15K as a couple of long runs, and the McIntosh and Forsithia as speedwork.
My work situation has improved, a lot less stress there. You may even have read about it in the Macon paper! Heck it's good to be alive and able to run!
Perry, I have your medal from the MoA, I'll be at Centerville and I can give it to you then. Any news on the Macon Tracks membership meeting? Also, will there be an awards meeting this year?

Josh,

You can still register for the half. But, it's steep... $75.05 online! We're staying with David's mom, otherwise I'd invite you to stay with us.

Scott,

The membership meeting is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 6th. Details will be in the newsletter. Steve got Macon Ts to imprint the logo on a headband (the wide ones that cover the ears) for a free give-away with renewel. We'll have "Challenge of the Miles awards", but not the typical end-of-year awards. Without a president, no one was tasked with organizing year-end awards.

I checked out the Int. 5K program. It looks pretty good. If you can stay healthy, I'm sure you'll meet your goal. You definately have the discipline and drive.

Thanks for the MoA race report. It was the only article this month, except for my Membership meeting cover story. David didn't send me his article until I had already dropped the newsletter off. So, for the first time since I've been editor (2 years), the newsletter is only 8 pages, instead of 12.

Yeah, when I saw the price to run the race, I pretty much ruled out running..but I think Mike and I are going to go over Friday and stay that night to watch the Trials...then head home once the race is over....should be fun to watch...

They have free beer after the races on Sunday. So, David & I are going to see if we can make up for some of the cost that way! Of course, if we win the Mercedes, who is going to drive it home for us?

Have you checked out the Boston application? -- $95! Plus most of the hotels are around $200 per night with a minimum 2 night stay. Makes for a pretty expensive race. If you and Alan decide to go, I may join you. That would cut down on the room cost some. I'd like to run it for fun, not competitively.

I'm headed for Tybee this weekend so I'm tapering this week.
I played as much catch up as possible over the last few weeks so I hope I'm ready.

Tapering sure makes you feel like you're not doing enough.

Scott, I'm doing the Al Toll 15k also so I'll see you there. I would really like to improve my time from last year.

Good luck this weekend, Steve. One of these days I'll do a marathon too, but it'll probably be after my kids are both in college, and that's down the road apiece.
Shame about the Tracks situation, maybe we can infuse a little new blood. I've noticed Kelly Sanders' mom just joined up at the wellness center, maybe she could be hit up to be president of the club?

Good Luck this weekend Steve...

Perry,

I'm sure Mike and I would love to hang around and take advantage of the free beer...but then we'd have no one to drive us home! Even if we didn't win the car! But I guess we're just going to leave when we both get off work friday and leave after the trials...There is also a 3 mile run (maybe race) an hour before the marathon...might look into that...

Thanks for the verbal support guys. I probably need your legs more though.

This is my luck. I join Macon Tracks and the first organized event is an "all the beer and pizza you want" on the evening I'm heading to Savannah. I will make up for it Saturday afternoon on my condo balcony though.

Birmingham should be a happening place this weekend. Good luck there.

The Marathon Trials were great. It was cold and windy. There were even snow flurries during the marathon.

The top 3 finishers all ran solid times, with Alan Culpepper winning, followed by Meb Keflizigih, and Dan Browne. The expression on Dan Browne's face as he rounded the corner to the finish line was priceless, securing the last spot on the team that will represent the US in Athens.

The most painful scene was Brian Sell, who led the first 21 miles, creeping in at what looked like an 8:30 mile pace. He still was in the top 10 (I think).

The half-marathon the next day was run on a tough course. It was in the 20s at the start, and was a little windy at times.

I woke up with a headache and ran the entire half-marathon with it. So, it was not a good day for me. I think I was just dehydrated. I'm not sure.

So, Steve, what's the story on Tybee? I'd like to print the story in the Macon Tracks newsletter, if you'll share it. Everyone always enjoys hearing about first marathon experiences.

Tybee Island sure ain't as flat as I hoped. Here's my story.

Not sure of the total number of people running in each event but it was mighty crowded at the start line of the half and marathon. The 5 k was lined up on the opposite side of the 4 lane headed north. The temperatures were in the 40's and wind was gusting up to 20 mph.

Horn went off so I creaped along with the crowd passing walkers and such. Made mile 1 at 9:01 which right about what I wanted. Hit mile 2 at 17:44 so I had picked it up without knowing and decided to back off. Mile 3 came around at 26: 35 so I was getting in a better rhythm. My plan was to do 9's till about mile 10 and then try to pick it up. My plan changed.

I struck up a conversation at about mile 4 with a nice fellow from S.C. who competes in triathlons. He was using the race as more or less a training run. We talked and cruised for a few miles and I quit timing my miles. At mile 6 or so we turned into a headwind that made the next mile feel completely uphill. I had told my wife where and when we would pass the condo we rented so I started looking for her until I realized we were ahead of schedule. This was at about 11 miles so I told Bill ? after another 1/2 mile or so to finish his half strong because I was backing off a little. Yea, I'm dumb. He was running the half. Cruised across the half-way point at exactly 1:51.

The second half was like a totally different race. It was almost like doing your long run alone. The best part was when I would wind around the neighborhoods and head back, people would be just making the turn so I was ahead of some. Mile 19-20 was back into the headwind and my mindgames started. Why not the half? Miles 20-22 were bad. No one around. At a little more than 22, I had to pass the condo again and knew my wife would be watching. My kids and their friends were there also. I sucked it up and made a feeble attempt at looking comfortable. Luckily, I fell into step with a nice young lady who inspired me on. Coming down the home stretch was pleasing because it was almost over and the crowd was very supportive. My first marathon time is 3h49m14s. I sure slowed down but survived.

It was a well run event with lots of powerade and water and the crowds were small, they were very supportive.

Man, I am sore.

Scott, I didn't run out of beer.

Steve

Thanks for the attaboy. I could've used that at mile 24 or so. What's your goal for the Al Toll 15K?
