I wish i could say I would be participating in some of the races in the next couple of months.....but instead I am rotting away on a deployment in the Middle East!! The good thing is that I am in a high altitude and running like a man posessed. I let myself gain some unwanted weight over the holidays and I am trying to knock that down. I feel like if I can't get down below 170 then i can never truly compete....so I am trying to get to 160 lbs. My goal is to run 500 miles in the 4 moths I am here. It is a lofty goal but it is driving me to run almost everyday. I have been averaging just over 5 a day....and that is with a day off. I do 5 miles worth of intervals on Wednesday and a long run on Saturday (next week is 10 miles). I have logged 106 miles in just over 3 weeks. I think it is safe to say that I have established a new record for myself. Running is a great way to pass the time away and escape the stress of being here. We need to get this thread going again. I need somebody to talk running to.By the way....Perry....those Nike's I have been running with from your store are freakin awesome. I swear I put over 500 miles on my last pair and they are still running worthy. I have another pair with me and those are getting broke in today. ------------------ http://interwovendesign.com/kick/userdisplay.php3?username=sjoranje

Anyone know this guy? He's one lucky son of a gun! I bet the girl was turning right and never looked once where she was going.Car Hits Runner Originally Created:2/20/2007 8:12:30 AM Last Update:2/20/2007 12:22:34 PM Web Editor: Kate Harrison Macon police say a driver struck a jogger at Pierce Avenue and Gwinnett Drive and dragged him for 260 feet.
According to a Macon police news release, Aaron Barth, 24, was jogging around 8 a.m. A 2002 Nissan X-Terra driven by 29-year-old Amanda Douglass turned from Gwinnett Drive onto Pierce Avenue and struck Barth, according to police. Douglass told police that she thought she had a flat tire and didn't realize she had struck the man until an oncoming motorist saw him trapped under her vehicle and signaled her to stop. Aaron Barth was taken to the Medical Center of Central Georgia where he is in stable condition. This case is still under investigation.

Spencer, Keep your head down over there. Good luck with your running.Scott, I suspect the jogger might have been hit because of cell phone useage or makeup application. How in the world could she not have known she was dragging someone. I'm doing Geico Saturday and then the Cherry Blossom on the 17th. That should get me ready for the ING Marathon in Atlanta on the 25th. Great weather this week for running. Steve

The total is climbing....155 and counting. I am averaging about 6 miles a day now. I have nothing else to do but run and work. Does anyone know of good weight workouts for running? I am going to start lifting 3 times a week but i only know how to lift because of football (go heavy or go home). So I need something better suited for running. Alright then....someone start posting!!! I am bored!!!------------------ http://interwovendesign.com/kick/userdisplay.php3?username=sjoranje

Hi everyone - I am a runner that is getting out of the military and moving to Macon in July. I know little about the area so anyone that can fill me on places to live, things to do, places to avoid, etc.. I would really appreciate it. My e-mail address is saraortbals@gmail.com. Thanks

As an expatriate Brit, I'd say that Macon in July is someplace you need to avoid! Seriously, though, Macon is a pretty good place to live. the cheapest "good" houses are in the sub-south area. The nicer areas are in the north-west area. I'd stay out of central Macon and the downtown area. Things to do... well it depends on your interests as to whether you'll be satisfied with the city. If you've read the prior posts you'll know about the group runs, but there are movie theaters and a symphony orchestra, the Cherry Blossom Festival this month....and we're close enough to Atlanta for day (& night) trips. www.maconchamber.com would be a decent starting point. Welcome in advance. Scott

Well, well. If the Cherry Blossom 5K was planned by a runner , he was a masochist. If it was planned by a non-runner, he was a sadist! The race started off on the spur of Wesleyan Drive between Forsyth and Rivoli, went up Rivoli and turned left onto Wesleyan Woods... straight downhill in a pound your knees to jell-o spurt. The race went up and down like the piston in a V8 Ford, along Guerry, across Wesleyan Drive into the subdivision on the other side. there was a turn-around, then the runners had to dodge each other as they went out through the stream of incoming runners, thern out to Oxford and up Wesleyan Drive, 3/4 mile uphill to a flat finish. A really challenging course, to say the least. This is the part that annoyed me. We were told that as a lot of 5K runners were running the 15K, we had to wait until 11:00 for the 5K awards. I went home for breakfast and a shower. When I returned at 9:45, the 15K runners were finishing, and the 5K awards were over. Don't you love the organization of Cherry Blossom races? I bet they had a lot of complaints with a wind chill of 34 degrees, telling tired, sweaty folks they had to wait 2 1/2 hours for the awards ceremony while the wind sucked out what little heat they had left in them! This should have been thought out IN ADVANCE. Let it be known, I'm not criticizing the course. It was tough, but fun (except for my poor knees.) As the CBRR is one of the most expensive races in the state, I really think they ought to invest some effort in it. This is not the first time someone hase been moved to criticize the organization of the CBRR, and it's certainly not my first gripe about it. My Dad always says "you get what you pay for." Compared to the Labor Day races, the CBRR doesn't give enough value for money. Scott

Scott, You're right about the Cherry Blossom being disorganized (and freezing). You didn't miss much with the awards. They only gave masters trophies to 50+ year olds, announced the 1st woman at the 5K as being Sam Martinez (and even after he came forward they seemed ready to proceed anyway, as if, if it said it on their printout, it must be so), and, at the 15K awards, they first gave the 1st place trophy to a woman who had inadvertantly switched chips with her boyfriend (she was actually about the 24th woman), which took awhile to straighten out. I'm all for chip timing, but there needs to be some human oversight as well. It was crazy to ask sweaty runners to stand around in the freezing wind without so much as a propane heater to gather around. I had on my parka and still felt hypothermic. Maybe next year they'll ask Steve Corkery to do it right! I ran the half last year and really enjoyed it -beautiful course on a beautiful day. I didn't get to run this year due to injury. Let me know what I can do to help with the MSO run. We're counting down to April 16th to run Boston!

I ran the ING Georgia Marathon Sunday and it was not a good run for me. The ING has significance to me now though. For 2008 it means (I)'m (N)ot (G)oing.Actually it was kind of fun with the great crowd support. The race directors couldn't control the heat which was a big issue. It was mid 80's or so when I got through. There were also some problems with liquids on the course. I only found two stops with Powerade which is ironic considering Coca Cola is headquarted in Atlanta. The terrain makes Al Toll seem fairly flat but it was interesting and pretty. The neighborhoods really supported the race and were involved in a contest which brought prize money to the winner. I suspect they'll have it right in 2008 and I may sign up but it will only be for the half. March weather is so unpredictable in Georgia. Steve

I doubt the CBF committee would ever ask a runner to organize a race! It would make too much sense. For years they had a huge woman who was obviously not a runner as RD. She didn't listen to anyone. As far as the MSO goes, I need some split callers, and if anyone out there's not planning on running, I'd love to have some help. Thanks in advance. Scott

On a positive note, my Peachtree check cleared. I'm in and should be in group 1A. Anyone else sweating it on July 4th? Scott

Well, very little activity recently. Steve, I'd love some help at MSO, I'll call you today. This weekend's the Perry Dogwood festival 5K, fairly flat, decent run, course is slightly short, I believe, but the race is cheap. $15.00 on race day is a bargain. See you there, folks. Scott

I'll be there with you on the fourth at PeachTree. The Berry College cross country team is going to run, so I signed up with them. Its right in the middle of our camp week; it should be a pretty good time if its not too hot. Fortunately, I was able to get into the super-seeded time division and start near the front.

I am loving the time I get to train in the high elavation. I am going on 3 months for my deployment and this morning I was able to run in a 10k. I ran it in 40:34 and since those 6.2 miles were my 36-42 miles of the week.....I think that is pretty dang good. I am at about 4600 feet as well...so I should be a lot faster at sea level. I am probably in the best running shape of my life.....my goal when I get back is to break into the 17's on a 5k....I think it is within my reach if I keep up the hard training. I have totaled over 425 miles of running here as well! Now all I need is a race to prove myself in.......Sometime at the end of May or in June..........if anyone knows of a race let me know.Spencer

Thank you to all my volunteers at the MSO Allegro Run. You all are the reason the race went so smoothly. Thanks to Amy, Angela, Anna, Dave, Kerrie and Steve I looked like I could direct a race! We had over 250 registered, and we've never topped 200 before. If we can keep up the interest we'll be able to keep the race up & running. Scott

All,I am looking for a runner to complete a marathon relay team. The race is in September at Wright Patterson AFB. Yes it is a long ways away....but the kicker is that I have sponsorship for this race. I can't say how much yet but it will be more than enough to pay for hotels, gas, and maybe a little food. Plus I have another sponsor that is willing to pay for shirts. The team currently consists of three runners, and we are all pretty fast and it would be nice to complete the team with someone even faster than us. If you are interested and running around 6 minute miles for a 10k then let me know. Male or female, old or young.....as long as you are fast I don't care. The three current members of the team are all around 25 years old. Spencer ------------------ http://interwovendesign.com/kick/userdisplay.php3?username=sjoranje

Kudos to Kerrie for the new Macon Tracks newsletter. It's good to have the running community in Macon back in touch. Hopefully we can keep this a regular thing. Let's all make sure she gets enough articles to publish a good newsletter every month. Scott

Thanks, Scott! Anyone who would like to get on the mailing list and e-mail distribution list for the track club, send me an e-mail with your information. I hope to have sign-up sheets at the local races, too, starting tomorrow at the Run the R.U.N. race at the Children's Home. My goal tomorrow is to not sprain my ankle on my first real "cross-country" course!Send me your suggestions for the track club and stories for the newsletters, too. Spencer - your relay trip sounds like an adventure. I definitely want to hear about that when you get back! Kerry

All,I am still looking for a fourth runner to complete the marathon relay team I put together. There are 4 legs in the race....a 5.7, 6.2, 6.7, and 8.5..........give or take a couple tenths. We are hoping to find someone who can give us a sub 40 minute 10k time. JOSH if you are still interested then shoot me an email or post a comment. I have sponsorship money for the event so the trip will cost next to nothing. The registration cost is covered (180.00), we will have a team shirt and that is covered, hotel costs might end up costing a little bit per person, but I am supposed to be getting some money from another source as well so that might be covered completely along with some of the food and gas costs as well. The businesses sponsoring us are looking to get some attention from this as well so I am hoping to put together a winning team for the event. So far the three runners I have lined up are pretty quick and with one more piece we good be a serious contender. ALAN, JOSH, PERRY......anyone out there who has some serious speed that wants to be a part of the team let me know. The three runners already participating are all around 25 years old. Travel arrangements have been made as well as hotel reservations. The event is the Air Force Marathon Relay at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio. It is on September 15th and most likely we will travel up on the thursday before and leave on the sunday after. Let me know ASAP. This thing has fallen off the charts so I thought it should be touched.Anyone running races recently? I'm running Jim Herrin and then Labor Day. The training is tough now with the heat though. On a side note. Has anyone run soon after giving blood? I gave the double red cell type yesterday and was completely wiped out this morning. Couldn't even finish my 7 mile run. Steve
