I was thinking of doing the Callaway Gardens Half in late January. Anyone ever ran this race?

Thanks, AFRunner20. I will keep an eye on the Cherry Blossom site for registration and other info. What can I say, I'm lazy about driving! If that one doesn't work out, I can always do the ING half in Atlanta later in March. I am not ready to do one in Jan or Feb but by March I should be okay. (I'm a new-ish runner-- started Couch to 5K last Feb and have run several 5Ks and one 10K since then.)

Calloway Gradens....yes I've done this race before. You circle the course twice. If you love nature...you'll love it. I would recommend you keep up with the pace group. Or be sure to stay in front of them. Folks have gotten lost before.

Thanks for the heads up. I heard the course was pretty hilly from a friend a few days ago. Do you remember the prizes for the top finishers?

Glitzee,

When I ran my first half marathon it was the Museum of Aviation here in Warner Robins. I decided I would run in it about 1 month before. I was like you....couch to 5k and 10k. I started by trying to run an hour and it hurt bad....but I kept with it and somehow ran a 1:34:00. If you can run a 10k then running a Half Marathon should be on your level. Competing is another story, however.

Oh, I am very slow. I have no hope of competing! I just want to feel good about finishing, not like I could've prepared better, you know?

It does seem odd about the Cherry Blossom folks not having anything up about the races. You'd think they'd at least have a course map and registration info up there. Most others do...like a year in advance.

Okay, I just called and the lady said they are not having a marathon in 2007. She said they are holding a 5K and a half-marathon though. Interesting...

Did they give a date for the half and 5k?

Yeah a date for that would be nice to know. I am definitely going to try and be there for that one.

Counting down to the MoA race. Looks like the temp will be a balmy 47 degrees, according to the Weather Channel. That would be the warmest I've ever seen!
Josh, you defending your record this year?

I was thinking about coming down and doing the half since I didn't get to run Disney, but everything worked out for me to go out to Arizona and do the Rock N Roll half out there on Sunday, so I will not be in WR this weekend, but enjoy the GREAT (for this race!) weather! How about the wind?

Well, I got a nasty cold over the holidays so I went ahead and registered for the ING Georgia half on March 25. Is anyone else planning to run that? I looked at the Cherry Blossom Fest. website and they said they'll have the schedule of events up on Jan. 15. So anyone who's interested in the half, check www.cherryblossom.com in a couple of days.

Good luck to those doing the Museum of Aviation races!

So the Cherry Blossom festival schedule is up-- no marathon OR half-marathon. Instead it's a 15K, 5K and 1-mile Cherry Trot. (If that doesn't sound like some kind of intestinal problem, I don't know what does...) They're listed for March 17, which is a Saturday. I don't think I'll be running any of these, since I'm doing the ING half a week later.

Hi all...you guys havent' been posting for a while so I forgot about your thread. I usually post on the Paris, ON Runners Forum thread. Sorry to jump in here but I'm looking for some help. JSM has already replied (thanks...) to a thread I started last week looking for runners in Warner Robins. Recently I’ve been put on a special project team for work at our head office (in Fort Valley, GA) and plan to be staying in Warner Robins during the week starting mid-February. That means I’ll be away from home for my sping training (I’m training for an April marathon) and would like to find other runners in the area who might want to run a couple times a week at night, maybe 5 to 10 miles. If you can help me out, that would be great. I really don’t want to be running this on a treadmill at a hotel…It looks like I'll be in Warner Robins for at least two to three weeks a month for the next year to 18 months so I'm really looking for monday, tuesday, wednesday runners. I'll be flying home each weekend. A bit about me, I'm a 42 yr old family man currently running at about 7:30 to 8:00min/mile...so I'm no speed demon but enjoy the social aspect of running. I'll (try to) post my profile. Since Macon would only be about a half hour away...that would work for me. Any interest? I start my first three week stay on Feb 19th.

I am way to slow for you! (Won't even bother posting my training pace...needless to say, you can probably walk faster.) Good luck though-- I assume you are working at Bluebird?

Really, I'm not that fast...and ya, I work for their branch plant here in Canada. 24 years...pretty much my whole adult life. I've been down that way a few times but never for as long as it looks like I will be coming up. Do you know anyone who works at the plant in Fort Valley?

Hey Thanks Scott...I'm interested in the wednesday night runs in Macon and maybe an early morning run or two. I try to get out early in the morning here at home (around 5am) and really enjoy the quiet...although, right now I'm nursing an achilles problem that's set me back this week. Do you have a contact for the Wesleyan College morning runs? Are they a bunch of students? I've already contacted Robins Pacers and they've been helpful. I'll be in town next week, so I may drop by Run Fit Sports.
Thanks again...
D

There's no real contact for the Wesleyan runs. We meet in the parking lot that's on the corner of Forsyth and Tucker. We leave promptly at 5:45am, and on Tuesdays we go 5 miles, Thursdays we go 6. You're welcome to join us, just show up.The Run-Fit runs are posted on the Run-Fit sports website.
Good luck.

Sounds good...I'm going to google map the location and probably come out in a couple of weeks. My schedule for next week is too uncertain at this point to start planning an early morning run when I don't know where I'm going. If I get a chance I'll try to drive there to get familiar with the area. I'll let you know when I plan to come out for sure. Looking at your profile...I'm going to have to pick up the pace...

Wesleyan is about half a mile from Run Fit Sports, on the same road, so once you find your way to Run Fit Sports, you've found your way to Wesleyan, so that'll help you kill two birds with one stone!

I did the Tybee Marathon Saturday and had mixed results. I was hoping for some good weather to run in without too much
wind. The wind was not nearly as bad as 06 but it still was noticable.

My time was 3.32.06 which is a new pr but not what I was shooting for....3.30.

Anyone doing Al Toll or the Geico race? I'll make both hopefully.

Steve

I'm planning to do the 5K at Mercer this Saturday and the Geico 12K. (Both fit into my training program for the half and are close at hand.) I've not done the Geico before-- what's it like? The website said it was hilly.

The Mercer event is called the Strive Run, and there's more info here in the bottom right corner: http://www2.mercer.edu/Athletics/default.htm

Racing season is finally here in Middle Georgia. We have the Sweetheart Run 5K & 12K at the Galleria Mall, Centerville this Saturday. Al Tol 5K & 15K next Saturday, Geico 5K & 12K , Forsythia 5K, Cherry Blossom 5K & 15K all back to back on the horizon. Then April 4 Perry Dogwood 5K, Glad I'm getting over this cold finally, might even have some fun.
