Whats up with the Labor Day road race ? Haven't heard anything about it . Ran two miles today . Alittle pain but not much than expected. I couldn't jog 100 yards a month ago.

Thats good news, and good luck to you and Ken although your not racing this weekend, I'm sure you'll have a hard time holding back. I don't plan to race again until the first weekend in August. I'm going to go down to jacksonville for the Tour de Pain (3 races in 24 hours). Do you have anything planned long term? Josh

I think I need a pat on the back! I had the longest run of my life yesterday and I had to do it on a treadmill!! It is just too hot outside and when I can't get out in the morning to run I have to settle for the treadmill. I did 14 miles.....I guess that isn't a lot to the marathoners but I almost died!!!! Next week I am doing 15 and then I will drop back down to 11 and increase the speed a little. Spencer

Questions for all.Does the heat impact your pace a lot? I am struggling to keep the pace and miles up right now. Can running in the warmer temps make you more fit for when temps return to normal? I will be doing the Jim Herrin, then Labor Day RR but my long term goal/race is the Rocket City Marathon in December. This is the purpose for my heat questions because my miles are climbing but at a snail pace. Steve

The heat hasn't really hurt my pace or my mileage, but energy level has dropped WAY down! I'm not sure if it does help to run in the heat, but it makes sense that it could, when you go from really hot to normal or even cool, that it would feel really good and your body wouldn't have much trouble with the weather. but thats just me talking...I'm really nut sure.

Steve,You would think that it would help. But, all the books and articles that I have read in the past say no. Heat acclimation increases the water content of the blood. But, there is no advantage to this in cooler temps. Also, the heat decreases your ability to train hard, as blood is diverted to the skin to assist in cooling. But, as Josh pointed out, training in the heat probably makes you mentally stronger, and the mind is a powerful thing.

there is a CHANCE I might come down and run the 10k....it all depends on how the Tour de Pain goes this weekend down in Jacksonville.

I had no idea there was a Macon thread in here! I've been running since about February and have done a few races. I'm planning on doing the 5K at the Jim Herrin, and the 10K at the Labor Day Road Race. I was thinking of trying a group run 1x a week but I'm pretty slow. Anyways, just wanted to say hello and see everyone around!

Josh,I am good if you don't run the Jim Herrin. That is just one less person I have to run against.....I mean lose to!!!! Perry, Hey Johnson hooked me up with those Nike's from your store and I am loving them. I don't get any blisters and my feet don't hurt anymore. I thought I liked those Brooks, but they don't compare to the Nike's.....love em. Spencer

I wont be able to make it down for the 10k tomorrow, we're having the new balance 767 test run at our store in the morning, so I guess that counts me out....good luck to everyone!

I was pleasently dissapointed with my performance in the 10k. On one hand I finished first in my age group, but on the other hand I finished nearly 2 minutes slower than what I did last year. It might have been because I pushed too hard on Friday's run but it sucked none the less.Spencer ------------------ http://interwovendesign.com/kick/userdisplay.php3?username=sjoranje

Spencer, don't beat yourself up over that. i heard it was hot and not every race you run will be your best race. and you might want to try taking it easy starting about 2 days out from a race..haha..just a thought.

There will be a marathon and half-marathon in Albany on 3/3/07. Sponsored by Snickers Energy Bar and the first ever marathon in Albany. The really noteworthy thing (and the reason I'm writing about it) is that there is a $3,000 prize for the male winner and $3,000 for the female winner. Strange thing is that the prizes are not even mentioned on the marathon website. I got a poster that mentioned it, so I checked it out with the "race director" and she verified the prizes, but didn't bother to answer my question about why it wasn't on the website. Check it out on robinspacers.org. Registration deadline is Feb. 20 and substantial savings if you register by Sept. 1.Marv Champion

That sounds like a plan depending on who else shows up! $3000 is a pretty nice chunk of change for a local marathon!Josh

It has to be $3000 prize purse. That is higher than some major marathons . I'll believe it if I can see it in writing.

Whats the deal with the Macon Labor Day races? I haven't seen or heard anyone talk much about it like last year when there was all the fuss and hype about the money issue. Josh you coming down to do it ?
