Don't forget the "resurrected" (pardon the pun) Run 4 Missions on April 29th at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, just a mile out from the Triangle. We'll run out to almost the Bolingbroke fire station and then back to the church. It's a "new" race and needs all the support we can give it, so the church will want to do it again next year. Look for the application in Ga Runner, Macon Tracks flier or online at www.run4missions.com.
Also the Allegro Run race needs a lot of support as the MSO contact is resigning this year. If it's a success, this time, the new contact might think it's worth doing again next year. Hope that's the case, I'd hate to think the 2 years I've spent working with the MSO were in vain.
C'est la vie!

I think I am finally back to the level I was at before January. I had a nice tempo run on Tuesday and yesterday I ran just under 9 with no difficulty at all. Now if I can just drop a quick 10 or 15 pounds I will be able to break into the low 18's for once.

Well it looks like this injury i got from that steeplechase has reaggravated an old injury. So now im having to back down to 3 or 4 miles every other day. Just when i about got up to 60 miles a week, so hopefully this break will give some rest for the next go around.

Who is going to the Bobcat Run? I would like to see kind of enterainment because its going to be boring.

I will not be in M'Ville, instead, I think I'm going to try the 10k in Covington. I'm just going to try and hit 5:30's the whole way and see how the foot holds up.

IS anyone racing this weekend? And if so..where? How did the race at the indian mounds go?

I'm going to do the Twilight 5k and hope to qualify for the mile in Athens this weekend. I don't have the mile speed right now, but it'll be cool just to be in it.

Athens Twilight ( this might be long )
One of the most excited and exciting racers of the year for me is the Athens Twilight 5k and $1000 mile . The top 15 men and women in the 5k that morning get to run for a purse of $1000 dollars in front of nearly 20,000 cheering boozed up young and old UGA fans in downtown Athens Criteruim .It is held between the break of the cycling events around 7:30 at night. One and half laps . In the morning the 5k pace was easy for me , some of the elites took it out easy to conserve energy for the mile that night. Josh Myers , as you all know ,was in the mix of the pack that was behind me .He finished I guess at 16:08 or something like that. Not bad coming off a foot injury. My brother Kenneth didn't make it but he said he was glad so he could wach it from the side line. 15th finished 16:30 .Happy for Josh will get in to experience the mile that night and that I know we can show off our RunFit colors together. I won the 5k that morning in 15:40 trying to save energy myself.
Come to find out Drew Griffin was running it the pac. He is a two time olympic trials qualifier,UGA mile record holder still today and Ian Buerell UGA runner (14:00 5k runner).Me being the Three time winner of this event , with last years winner there Tom Kutter and nearly my whole family coming to watch me race this awesome event. My nerves was shot to sh--. Once the start of the race me and Drew and some others was in the lead. They had a $50 prime lap and me and Drew was neck and neck and I believe he strided forward alittle bit to get the prime lap. We went through the half in 2:10. We already battled one hill and the same hill is coming back around again. Once we go up Tom Kutter and Ian passed me along with Drew .I was in Fourth. Until the last turned Drew and Ian was a few steps ahead and Tom was alittle bit behind them. I had to get atleast third.I tried to put on a kick but Tom was a few steps with we.The finish line was in site and Tom is there. Ian and Drew was battling there selves and One more kick would get me third . The crowd is yelling wild .Thats all you hear . I see my folks in the corner of me eye and my brother yelling "Juice It'. I passed Tom in a time of 4:18. Drew and Ian finished 4:16 .Not bad finishing behind of one of Georgia's great milers. I'll settle for third behind those two. Josh did great as well in about 4:37 or something like that.
This a great race for anyone wanting to get in the top 15
Thought I'd write alittle something since no one has posted anything lately.

Alan hit the nail on the head with that post. It's a super exciting race, although I don't think I had the nerves that Alan had going into it, my biggest concern was not getting last in the mile! I was just happy to have made the mile.

For me, the 5k wasn't all out, but it wasn't just a stroll in the park. For about 2 miles, I wasn't sure if I'd make the mile or not, but once people started dropping off, I was able to ease up and save a little something for the mile that night.

Once the mile came around, it was basically over! It went by just that fast! It did have a pretty tough hill on it that we had to go up twice, but I was happy with my time, and I didn't really expect to run that fast, nor did I fell like I gave it my all. I think on the track this summer, I might be good for a sub 4:30, we'll see what happens, not to mention, I haven't done any speed work since Friday, and I just came off this foot injury and haven't been running for very long.

Hope the Run for Missions went well.

Josh

Motivation issues on my end. One day I am all for it and the next I wait too long in the day to be motivated enough to run. Ahhhh.....this week I only pulled 3 running days. Luckily enough they were a long run, 6.2 fast, and a tempo run for 25 minutes.

Alan (and Josh),
Great description of the Twilight 5K and $1000 run. Wish I had been there to cheer you guys on and see a near 4 -minute mile in person. Complete results are at http://www.athenstwilight.com/results.asp. Now I understand why no one seemed particularly excited about the race in Anniston that I emailed you about with the $150 first place prize.

Alan,

How did the race in Swainsboro go this past weekend?

I went up to Emory last night and jumped in the 3k. It was a good quick field and 5 of us decided to each take one of the first 5 laps and share the work and then the last 2.5 laps would be everyone for themselves. We went through the first mile in 4:44 and then somewhere between laps 4 and 5 my foot started hurting really bad and then went numb. I decided to drop out of the race after I finished that lap in 1:15 (2k in 6 Flat). I was so mad at myself I put on my trainers and about 5 minutes later, I jumped in the next heat of the 3k and paced BJ @ 5:20 pace. I picked it up a little bit at the end to run 9:56 to get an easy win, but I wish I could have hung on in the fast heat, it would have been a sure PR.

This weekend, here in Peachtree City there is a 5k and a 10k, and I plan on doing both of them, but racing neither of them, just doing them as a workout. The 5k is 30 mins. before the 10k, so I just want to run 5:20's for the 5 and 5:30's for the 10.

What everyone else doing this weekend?

The Swainsboro 5k went okay but not as planned. Come to find out .The start of the 5k was moved back about 50 yards from the previous start .I could see as the old start line was faded on the road. I beat my record by :01 second. 15:10.
Netx week I will be at the Emory track for the 5k. Hoping to run 14:30 .I did 6 x 3/4 mile avg of 3:23 with 2:45 recovery yesterday so I believe I will do great.
Hope the foot does okay Josh. I have a sports hernia myself. Probaly will end up having surgery in July. Can't seem to take much more of it. Later

That stinks about the hernia, and about moving the line back, but atleast you got the record and the cash bonus. I should see you next tuesday night, but I"m not sure yet which event I will run.

So how is everyones running going? I ran a pretty solid effort this weekend at a small race in Peachtree City. There was a 5k at 8 and at 10k at 8:30, so I was able to do them both. The 10k was certified, but this was the first time they had done the 5, and I think it was a little long. I had planned on running 5:20 per mile for the 5k and 5:30 per mile for the 10k, however, I ran the 5k in 17:29, and then came back and ran the 10k in 33:52, so judging by that I ran the 10k at a faster pace than the 5k, which I didn't plan on. I also didn't plan on getting chased through someones front yard by a dog during the 5k....haha..but I guess it happens.

Whats next for everyone?

looking for ya at the all commers meet Josh. I ran a 14:34. Went well as planned . My quads was killing me with 1/2 mile to go so I didn't have much of a kick to catch Michael. Hill workout a few days ago got to me. He ran 14:26 and Tom ran 14:35 on my ass. I took the outside lane for a mile and a half so I could have shead a few more seconds off. Malcolm ran 14:50. It was fun and looking to do another one.
Take it easy and see yall soon

Good job to Alan on a killer fast new 5k PR on the track last night in Atlanta. 14:34 is flying! Maybe one day...haha.

Kurt, I doubt I will be there, but man I love the idea of a XC race!

FPD hosted a XC race at the Georgia Industrial Children's Home this morning. They had a good turn-out, considering they didn't advertise it heavily or put it in R&S GA. Chad Bacon came home to win it in the low 18s. Probably about 70 runners combined in the 5K & the 1 mile. Hope they do it again, it was fun.
