Just for my clarification, are all those podcasts available via iTunes?

Yes, you can find them all on iTunes. Just go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/ and download the program (again, it's free.) Once it's installed, click on podcasts, then health and finally fitness to narrow your search. You'll find a bunch of good running ones and probably other things you'd be interested in as well.

I was amazed when I finally discovered this the other day. There are podcasts on everything from "The Naked Tease Nudist" to "Choosing the Best No-Load Mutual Funds." I think I'll stick with the running ones . . . at least for now.

Show how many of you guys are going to be in Warner Robins this up coming weekend? I will not be running the marathon this year (I've done it the past 3), althought I wish I was, but the old coach wont let me. However, I do plan on being there and running either the 5k or the Half, it all depends on how well I recover from the Disney Half that I ran yesterday.

You did the Disney half? How fun. How did it go?

I'm going to be there for the half. I'll be slow as Xmas, but I can't bear to miss a year.

I plan on making two trips around the base this Saturday.

Has anyone checked out the forecast? Projected 20 mph winds. Oh my!

I ran 1:13:38 and finished 6th. I'm going to try and do a semi-story on it a little later on.

Scott dictated the following press release for the discussion board:

"After 4 months, 15 lbs, 6 doctors, and one MRI scheduled for this Thursday, I've finally been released to get back to slow jogging. In an especially cocky moment that I’m sure I’ll regret, I dared Chuck Place to show up Saturday and compete against me in the 5K. I think I can take him - even though the farthest I’ve been in 4 months is the mailbox and I had to stop and take a break halfway. It's the little victories that keep you going. He may be my new adopted grandpa, but I’ll trip him in front of the finish line if it means a victory. Semper Fi!”

Hey y'all, please stop to welcome back the old man and the cripple before you leave Saturday. By the way, the old man and the cripple are both named Scott Higgins. But you know how competitive I am. I kinda like him that way!

I wonder why we're being tested.

I just looked at the forecast for Warner Robins tomorrow. Windy and cold. After all this beautiful weather, we have to have crappy weather on race day. Nice. See you all there.

Well, i didn't make it out to WR but from the sound of it, it might have been a good decision. I heard the wind wasn't friendly. How about some reports?

All,
Warner Robins was a windy place Saturday. When I arrived at the museum for the packet pickup, I wished for the opportunity to run the half ( I pregistered) instead of the full. The winds were gusting pretty bad and made a not so cold day feel like it was freezing.

The first loop around was not too bad for me even though there were a few stretches where the wind would stand you up. It was possible to run with a group some at the pace I was running which was a little under 8 mpm.

I won't bore anyone with my splits but I was on pace through about 14 miles and knew I couldn't keep it up. I backed off so as to finish without walking or crawling. There was no hiding on the second trip around because the crowd had thinned so much.

I had trained harder for this years marathon than any before and was a little disappointed in the result which was a 16 second PR. 26.2 miles and only 16 seconds separated last years time from this years. My time was 3.38.16.

This is by far the most sore I've ever been from any race. Maybe Tybee Island will be a little more gentle in a couple weeks.

Later
Steve

Preach on, brother! I thought I was going to be blown out to the Atlantic! I haven't been training like I used to, so I treated it like a Sunday run. Glad our typical Sundays aren't like that, though. The wind didn't seem to do much harm to anyone else's time, so I guess I can't use that excuse. Had to come up with SOMEthing!

Hey Steve, take a look:
http://www.robinspacers.org/results/marathon/06-26all.htm
Did they list your name as Steve Purdue in the results?

Yep, that would be me.

I am feeling much better today and got a nice run in this morning. Tybee is coming up in two weeks and I want to be fully recovered.

One thing I noticed in W.R. was some people shouldn't wear tights. I had considered buying some but now will resist the urge. I would probably fall under the category of the ones that shouldn't.

What's next for everyone?

My first indoor track meet is this sunday in Nashville Tennessee. I'm running the 1200 in the DMR and depending on how I feel, I'll run the 3000 after that.

What about everyone else?

Good first indoor meet. I ran the 1200 of the dmr and split 3:17 (which would convert to a 4:23 mile) and then I came back and ran the 3000 in 9:20, which would convert to somewhere around a 9:5? 2 mile, both are pr's.

Nice job Josh.

Well I'm heading to Tybee and doing the marathon tomorrow. I sure hope for some decent weather. I intended to do the Geico race next but have a conflict with work. Can you believe they want me to play golf twice that weekend?

Been quiet on here lately. Where's everyone?

Steve, I hope you do well at Tybee. I'm back to running a respectable weekly mileage. But, I don't plan on toeing the line until I slim back down. As of this morning, I have 18 lbs to lose to return to my "fighting weight." That's a lot of extra weight to carry in a race.

Philip and I have penciled in the USATF GA Masters Championships & Open Track Meet at Savannah State the weekend of April 14 & 15. In track, 30 years old is considered Masters. I'm planning to run the 10,000 and Philip will run the mile. But, I've "got a long way to go and a short time to get there."

Good luck tomorrow at Tybee. I just had a guy leave the store who was headed that way and we checked the weather before he left....looks like 20plus mph winds and rain....but good luck with it!

I've got another indoor meet tomorrow. Looks like my next road race will be the CRR10k in Atlanta with hopes of a big PR.

Thanks for the info on podcasts, Amber. Like everyone, I've been hearing about them, but didn't want to take the time to locate the files, d/l them, etc. I "unintentionally" installed iTunes about a month ago when all I wanted to do was update QT player. For the last two weeks I've been using iTunes to play mp3s. It's a much simpler, cleaner interface (less cluttered) than Windows Media Player and even seems to sound better.

I had to read your instructions two or three times, not to mention upgrade iTunes, before I could figure out how to get the podcasts, but I finally downloaded Phedippidations 30 to listen to while I ran this afternoon. I found it was too large for my cheap MP3 player, so I quickly used a program I had never used before to convert it from 128 kbps to 96. It sounded okay on the computer, but when I got it on the MP3 player, it seemed to be broken up into a bunch of tracks about 2 or 3 minutes long. That would have been okay, except they were out of order! I'll have to work on that little problem.

Anyway, the Phedippidations 30 broadcast was interesting, but I found it is not what I need while running. I had my worst pace in recent history. I felt the need to pay attention to what he said and try to make some sense out of it that I would remember after the run. That kind of brain activity doesn't work for me while running. I need music that lets my mind "zone out" so that I might not even remember what I heard afterward.

But now I can add "I dig podcasts" to my techie resume. Thnx again.

Race report on Tybee.

Disaster.

I have learned my lesson on running marathons so close together. I felt great through the first half but just ran out of gas the second time around. Mile 13-about 15 was into a strong wind and I knew trouble was ahead. The only positive was no DNF although it was considered. My time was 3.51.13.....13 minutes worse than 3 weeks ago. My only inspiration at the end was the beer chilling in the condo fridge.

My plans for the next 2 weeks is no running. Al Toll is my next planned jog. Anybody gonna be there?

In case anyone needs it, the Al Toll flyer is on the Pacers website courtesy of Brenda Gail Wall and Steve Corkery. There's also a flyer for a new Grand Prix race y'all might be interested in on Mar. 11 in WR. I can't vouch for the quality of management, t-shirts, or trophies, but it's being put on by people at Houston Medical Center so hopefully it will be similar to the Dogwood Festival in all of the above.

H3driver is kinda a mouthfull, so what's your name? Or is this one of those "I'd have to kill you if you told you" kind of things?

I wouldn't listen to a podcast while doing speedwork, either. When I'm putting in my requisite pre-pre-dawn treadmill miles or an easy run all by my lonesome, it makes me feel not so, um . . . lonesome. It might slow me down a little, but that's not a bad thing on a day when you're just logging miles. It's kinda like I have a running buddy along who makes sure I stay at an aerobic pace and don't push myself harder than I should.

I just found another one called "The Onion" that makes me bust out laughing in the middle of a run. That's all well & good unless it's on a treadmill at the wellness center at 5:15am. You get some funny looks at the very least!

Steve - Way to get through Tybee. You did something I wouldn't try! And that falling apart feeling isn't fun, I've been there a few times.

I won't be at Al Toll, but good luck to all that are!

I thought profiles were supposed to help answer questions like that.
But here's another hint: In a recent email to me, you wrote, "Your website is the BOMB!" BTW: is that good?

This has quite a few responses, which is great. I'm going to move it to the appropriate forum. The "Neighborhood".
