Personally, I liked the Warner Robins course. I like to segment things into manageable pieces, and having 2 loops does this for me. When I ran it in 2002, I looked at the first loop as a warm-up. Josh ran with me and blocked the wind for me the first half(there was a brutal wind that year). It was kind of refreshing when the half-marathoners turned off, and I was left alone to focus on the rest of the race. However, they also ran out of water and Gatorade that year, and I crashed and struggled to finish. Without Josh to help block the wind, it took a lot out of me. I won the race, but the lack of aid was pathetic. Josh makes a good point. If you don't need crowds to encourage you, Warner Robins is fine. But, it does help to have people around for the final 6 miles. My first marathon was Disney. It was a good course (although temps. were in the 80s), and the crowds and support were great. ------------------ Perry My User Profile

Well, it seems the odds are against me...As I had stated..I was planning on running Will Robinson on saturday...yesterday I was working at church with an after school program and we were playing basketball...I went up for a rebound and landed wrong...heard and felt a nice pop in my right foot and now I have a nice swolen lump in the arch of my foot and it hurts to put weight on it...I was able to run on it fine last night..but my coachh said I shouldn't run on it until it is 100% recovered so I dont risk any future damages..but I'm stubborn...I might run anyway...who knows...might see you guys there..Go Dawgs!! It was a great race. Alan won it (of course), but I didn't catch his time. I was second in 17:05 (don't ya hate it when you go just over a minute mark?). Some guy wearing an "ARMY" singlet was 3rd and Clark was 4th.Clark and the Army guy were with me until about 1 3/4 miles. I didn't want them with me on the final hill, so I pushed it at that point. Problem is, I didn't have anybody real close the final mile. If I would have, maybe I would have gone sub 17. I think everyone was pleased with their times. David and I drove the course before the start, and believe it or not, it measured out as 3.1 on my truck odometer. It just seems odd that I always run so well on such a hilly course. I guess it's just the right combination of steep hills and long downhills. David ran 19:43 and was happy (even though Michael Ulrich outran him). Maybe I can go sub 17 at FootLocker. Where is everyone racing next Saturday (the 22nd)? ------------------ Perry My User Profile

We were going to run Will Robinson, but we wanted to go ahead and get to Athens, so we went and ran the Jaguar Caper in Athens...it's was nasty..very tough course...most people ran about 30-40 seconds slow...I had a rough day..ran my worse time in a year..17:04...I shouldn't have run, but I'm stupid and did it anyway...my legs were shot...no juice in them at all....I need to get my base built back up....I wont race again until Dec. 6th here in Cochran...hope some of you guys comeJosh GO DAWGS! ------------------ Running Stats

I'm leaning toward Cochran. It's got to be better than the Reindeer run course.Scott, Kristy said that she would do the relay at Warner Robins. That's a 4 person relay, right? I might be interested in running in on relay team, if I decide not to run the half. ------------------ Perry My User Profile

Bill said he'd run with us, but he'd already signed up for the half. I'll call him and get back to you. He probably would rather not have to get his application changed. We'll be running the dreadful Reindeer Run this year. Kim's going to sit it out though. John wants to keep up the tradition! Scott

I got in touch with Bill, and he's decided to run the MoA Half-M, so we are looking for a 4th member for our relay team. Let me know if you are interested, Perry. Chad McDaniel is planning on having the FPD Track Team run the relay also, so we can't use John. Anyway, anyone interested in being on the team let me know. Scott

I am training for the full marathon at this point and seem to be on track. I've done a couple 20 milers so far. My intent is to just finish. The relays are fun so I hope Scott can put a group together. Later, Steve

If there were 3 women on the team, they would probably be better off getting a 4th and competing in the Ladies division. I'd prefer to have 2 of each gender. If Kristy wants to get up an all female team, Kim would probably want to run on it. They'd just need 1 more girl. I can always jog the Half. However, I'll make up the 4th if Kristy and her friend don't want to do the all lady thing. Scott

Well guys, after the way some of my longs runs have been going the past few times, I think I've all but talked myself into giving the MoA Marathon another shot (told you guys I'd end up doing it again)....I've been feeling confident and I might try another race tatic...just going out slow for the first half and picking it up the second half, if I can make myself do that...I still need to get in about two or three more good long runs to make 100% sure I'm ready, if not I'll do the half, but looks like I"m going to give the marathon another shot. All you guys going to Foot Locker, good luck and enjoy...it's something awesome to watch...and I hope to see a few of you guys in Cochran next saturday, let me know if you need directions.. GO DAWGS!! Josh

Who's doing a fun race on Turkey Day? Anna wanted to do the Gobble Jog in Marietta Thanksgiving morning, so we're going out to that one. Luckily we will be with family close to Atlanta, so it won't be too long a drive. With Foot Locker 2 days later I'm just jogging it. I'll try to rabbit Anna to a PR. Any others doing a goofy race Thanksgiving Day? Scott------------------

There is a tradition we do in cochran on thanksgiving every year....but it's not like a race...it's just where all the people in Cochran get together and do our Turkey Jog...we all get together and run about 5 miles...you can choose to run in a group..or we put people in order slowest to fastest and let the slowest start first..and we try and make it so that everyone finishes at the same time...it's just a little fun run.,..no entry fee or tshirts...just running in a group for fun...GO DAWGS!! beat the nerds!! Scott: Are you and John running the Madison 8K again this year? I've never run it, but David and I were talking about that being our last race before resting up during the holidays. How's the course?Josh: Are you running the Santa Stroll 8K this year? Is Mike O'Donnell still planning to run the Aviation Marathon? I haven't seen him since the Galleria 12K. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving.

Perry, we are all of us going up for the Madison Christmas Rush. It's a great course, modified out & back. Slight uphill slope out and of course it's downhill back. Cool shirt, sweatshirt or no shirt option (so you can pay $10.00 for the race). There's a 5K as well as the 8K, so Anna can run too. They serve hot vegetable soup, and as cold as it was last year, that was much appreciated. It's quite competative, as the Athens and Atlanta runners show up for it. Its late start is an advantage for a race that's an hour and a half away. I give it 2 thumbs up, and it'll be a good speedwork session for me as I train for the relay in January. Scott

The MUST Ministries Gobble Jog in Marietta was a very well attended, and, with 1 exception, a well organized race. They had a great Tshirt, long sleeved, with a good Thanksgiving design available for all preregistered runners, and many day of race sign-ups got one too. A goodie bag was provided to all runners, and it was packed with stuff. The pre-race festivities were good, there was plenty of water at the start and at 2 race stations. Could have used a few more Porta-potties. The voluteers were numerous and friendly. The one thing that let them down was the course. 1) Just before race time they announced that it was a 3 mile, as they couldn't add a final loop the the course and not have the race cource cross itself. 2) The race started with 2 loops of the square, and most of the runners had to get through the walkers twice! It wasn't until we were on the straightaway that the crush thinned out. 3) Some runners didn't do the 2 loops, and so placed a lot higher than they should have, making the awards and times unfair and incorrect. 4) The course itself was a fairly tough one, and I think this should have been advertised, along with the fact that it wasn't going to be a full 3.1. And...5) The 1 mile fun run was changed at the last minute to a 1K fun run. My neice who I had signed up didn't care, but I was disappointed. That should also have been advertised, rather than changing the rules after the money was in. Apart from the race course itself, it was a good social event and we got a nice shirt, and the kids came away with a bagfull of cool stuff, including a frisbee from The Athletes Foot. The runners, hoiwever, all came away a little less thankful than we would have liked on Thanksgiving Day. Perry, feel free to cut & paste this into the newsletter if you wish. ------------------

FootLocker report:Well, I didn't break 17. I ran a 17:50, which was dissappoining. I got bogged down at the start. I must have passed 50 people in the first mile, and 15 more in the last 2 miles. Maybe I can break 17 on the road in Cochran next Saturday (Josh, I'm taking your word that it is a good course). My 2 sophomores both ran big PRs. I haven't seen the official times yet, but they both ran 18:30 something. Scott ran 23 something. He'll probably have a better report, as we flew back to Atlanta right after the sophomore race at 9 am. ------------------ Perry My User Profile

I'm jealous of Perry flying to and from the Foot Locker. We had to drive it, 5.5 hours each way! FPD aquitted themselves well. Joby Peake 17:41, Scott Cope 17:31 (both freshmen), but the winner of the Freshman race ran it in 15:52! John ran the Junior race in 17:24, Chad Bacon in 17:21, and Kelly Sanders had a great race with 16:29 for 13th place. I don't know my place as it was lost off the bottom of the page, but I got 23:24 by my watch. We all enjoyed ourselves, even if if was colder than a welldigger's behind. The FPD team had an outstanding performance! For our state championship, the winning team, Westminster, averaged 17:07 for their top 5 runners. FPD averaged 17:17 at FootLocker (if my math is right). And Westminster has won the state championship 9 times in a row (if I'm not mistaken). That's pretty impressive for a team that includes no seniors (right, Scott?).I wish the Mary Persons team was as dedicated. I can only get a few to practice by themselves in the off-season. It's against state rules for me to hold mandatory practices in the off-season. So, I have to start from scratch every fall. Our top guy went from 22 minutes at the beginning of the season to 18:32 at FootLocker. It would have been better if he could have come off the summer already running 18 minutes. Scott, why didn't Chad McDaniel run? I didn't see his name in the results. Josh, I'll see you on Saturday. David and I are coming down. I think everybody else I know is going to the Reindeer Run. Who were the guys that ran sub 17 last year? ------------------ Perry My User Profile

The one senior on the top 7 didn't do the Foot Locker this year, but the top 5 did. 2 freshmen and 3 juniors! Chad wasn't able to make it as he had some virus. According to Kelly Sanders' Mom he was just about at death's door. I'm dreading the Reindeer run Saturday, but John has a good chance at it as Kelly and Chad are both taking the SAT that day. He's gotten 3rd in age group the last 2 years, and with the Cochran race taking all the fast runners, he ought to place at least. Scott

But if you guys come to Cochran, all of you guys would be able to get a fast time....I'd rather run a fast time than win a race....but congrats to all you guys at FL...thats a nice race...and man..I know it had to be cold...it was freezing in Atlanta...Last year, the guy of finished 2nd in the labor day 5k won it..Mike broke 17 and I broke 17....it was my fastest 5k all of last year....so maybe thats some promise...it's got one tough hill.....and I nice steep downhill... We'll see you there. Josh ------------------ Running Stats
