Since we're sponsoring and coordinating volunteers with Anne Wright, I've actually got a course map for the Race for the Cure if any of you would like to see it. Just e-mail me at work and I'll send it to you.

Nice thing about the new course is that we won't have to worry about that gravel road leading to the equestrian center. We kind of worried about it when we were planning last year because it gets dangerous if it's muddy, and you can usually expect some rain in late October. If I understood correctly, we'll also have two lanes blocked off on Forsyth Road so the runners don't have to weave through the walkers on their way to the finish line.

The event coordinator told me that they're a little intimidated by the whole chip timing thing since they've never done it before. Anyone experienced with helping registrants match chips with bib numbers on race day would make a wonderful volunteer, so pass the word along. If they've ever done it for LDRR, they'd be perfect. Just send them to komencentralga.org.

I just set up online registration for the Nov 12th Georgia Industrial Children's Home 5K at GEICO. Flat, fast course and everybody gets a cool wicking shirt. But if you want it for only $15, you've got to sign up by Nov 9th.

Register online here:
http://www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1260753

Or print an application here:

I finished 48th in the Air Force Half Marathon. If anyone wants to try that next year I promise a good time and a very tough course. I read that it is tougher then the Boston Marathon....maybe not but that course was HILLY! I had some back cramps half way though...lost my running partner...and finsihed very weak..but I still managed to pull out a 1:31:19 which is only 1 minute slower then my Aviation time and considering how many hills there were I am happy with the results. It was definitely the hardest time I have ever had running. I wanted to quit multiple times and even had to walk twice because the pain was so bad but I pushed through it and that in itself was a big accomplishment for me. I needed something to motivate me and this did...I am going to try and get to a better running weight...I think my weight had something to do with my back hurting and cramping up. Next goal is Aviation Half. I will be to the store on Thursday probably to buy some new shoes....that could have been another reason for the back issues.

Perry, will you post a link to the race on the MTRC site?

http://www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1260753

On the link, please call it the Children's Home 5K at GEICO. Corporate changed some of its rules about that kind of thing, so I had to change the name of the race. If you want, you could include the printable application link as well. Thanks!

Hey Spencer - congrats on the marathon, sounds like a real accomplishment! I thought about making aviation museum my next marathon, but I think I'll just do the half again. 26.2 pancake-flat miles are too rough on my legs; I need a least a few hills, but that's just me.

My next full one will probobly be Callaway Gardens in February. If you haven't done that one, you ought to try it. It's a double loop (yuck!) but the scenery is nice and the course is gently rolling. It got a bad rap this past year because an ice storm screwed everything up, but it's a good race.

The Georgia Collegiate State Cross Country Championships is coming to Macon Oct 1st. If I'm not mistaking there will be high schools running in it from the GHSA and GISA schools racing against one another. First time in history. Alot of colleges and schools will be there. It will take place at Georgia Children's Hospital on Mumford Rd at 9:00 am. Great racing action.

Yeah, our Girls (Clayton state) Cross Country team will be there, i wish I guys would be running it, it'd be like coming home for a meet, but our guys team is going to be in Tampa racing the day before, so I'll be at the Ga Championships, but I won't be running just cheering. Also, my high school and middle school teams will be there (Bleckley Co), so that'll be neat to get to watch them run.
But to correct one thing, GISA and GHSA won't be racing each other, they will just be racing on the same course on the same day, so you can compair the times, but it's not a head to head race.

Went hashing for the first time yesterday with MGH4. My legs are so scratched up that I won't be able to wear shorts or a skirt for at least a week, but I had a BLAST! Y'all might want to try it sometime.

Their schedule's posted at http://www.mgh4.com. The next hass is usually posted a couple of days in advance, so you have to keep your eyes open for it. I hesitated to go for a looooong time because their website makes them seem like a bunch of perverted prison excapees (come to think of it, that's how the run felt,) but they're pretty tame.

Haven't seen any postings on Buggython. How was it?

I'm upping my miles getting ready for the Aviation Marathon. Maybe I can sneak a race or two in between. I'm considering Chickamauga as a long run and Bartram Trail(Milledgeville) as well.

How well are the Sunday morning triangle participated in? I'm getting to the point that long runs alone aren't fun.

And so the training begins. My next goal is Aviation half marathon, but myself and my buddy Oldenhouse are aiming our sights high and trying to make the Air Force cross country team. We need to be running in the 16's by December and that is a lofty goal but I am running nearly 40 miles a week now and now I am going to incorperate speed work again. I got 6 in today..800's tomorrow and a 10 miler on Wednesday. Oh and by the way PERRY I love my new shoes...the BROOKS adrenaline are sweet and probably the best shoe I have run in to date...they fit my feet perfect.

Well, I made it through the Omaha half marathon for another year. The hills seemed like they would never end. I finished one minute slower than last year. But, unlike last year, I ran every step of the way.

The other people I ran with also came up slower than last year, possibly because of the weather. According to the newspaper, the humidity was 93 percent at the race start.

Anyone looking for a challenge should consider this race.

Spencer: to get your profile or stats to show up after a post, just click the "show signature" box in the options menu. I'm glad the shoes are working out. The Adrenaline has been a solid shoe in the store since we opened.

The high school team that I coach will be at the Mercer cross country meet at the children's home this Saturday. We're hoping for a good showing, epsecially from Alan McGough. Run Fit Sports is a sponsor for the event. So, I'll be there with a display. They have an open race following the college and high school races, if anyone is interested.

Amber: Sounds like another tough Half. Are you running the Atlanta Half this year?

Steve: The Sunday runs are still going strong. We had about 20 runners there this past Sunday. I ran 14. I'm planning to do 16 this Sunday. I'll start at 6:10, run 8 miles, then join the group at 7:15 for the last 8 miles.

Perry,

I still can't figure this thing out. Which options menu? I am a computer fuy and I still can't get it figured out!!! Well, I did 10 miles this morning and I am pretty sore...especially since I sit in a stinkin chair all day long. Tomorrow is an easy day so I am looking forward to a slow 6 miles.

Does anyone know anything about the city of Forsyth? I'm particularly interested in desireable (but not insanely expensive) vs. undesireable neighborhoods.

Amber,

It varies a lot. It's not as simple as "the northside is better than the sothside," etc. On the south end, Evergreen, Forsyth Landing, Chriswood, and Newton Drive are good neighborhoods. On the north, Betsy Lynn Estates is a good neighborhood. But, it borders a bad neighborhood. Same thing with Jackson Heights. The area around the city golf course is nice on one side, bad on the other end. If you like to be close to a track, Montpelier Estates borders the Mary Persons High track.

If you have specific areas in mind, I can give better advice.

Spencer, Maybe I'm not talking about the same thing. But, after you type the body of your message, there is an "Options" menu below it that says "Disable Smiles in This Post" and "Show Signature." When I click "Show Signature" a link to my profile (is this what you mean by Stats?) is created along with my signature.

Perry,
I just made an offer tonight on a house in Betsy Lynn. My only concern was the yucky area you have to drive through to get there. There is some new construction priced at the higher end for that neighborhood, which is encouraging.

If you hear of anyone looking to sell, let me know. I don't expect my first offer to be accepted, and I could be house hunting for a while.

Spencer,
Try this. Click on the "edit your profile" link (upper right corner of page). There's a box there for your signature. Put the url to your stats in that box. Then, when you post a message and select the "show signature" button, the link to your stats should show up in the message.

Amber,

My brother lives in Betsy Lynn. He's lived there about 11 years. I'll ask him about houses for sale. We have breakfast every Thursday morning and a 10 miler scheduled every Friday morning. So, I'll ask him then and let you know.

Steve, the buggython was pretty much the usual. That long hill at the end was a drag, and I think I ran close to my worst 10K that day. Still picked up 3rd in the 50-54 age group though. That was simply because there were 2 races, so lots oh hardware to go around!
