Looks like I won't be there after all. Turns out orientation for fall quarter at Wesleyan is that day & I can't miss it. Bummer - this'll be the first time I've missed Jim Herrin since I started running.

Just as well, though. I fell off my bike (again) last Sunday & haven't been running at all this week. A friend suggested that Scott & I go with him on an easy ride so we could take a day off from running after the triathlon. Sixteen miles into it, I wiped out, hurt my shoulder and a spot on my left shin swelled up as big as a softball. Good thing endorphins are good at suppressing pain - I still had nineteen miles to go! He didn't tell us before we started that we were going 35 miles - I'd never been that far before. At least I'm no quitter. I taught my exercise classes all week covered in nasty bruises with my arm in a sling.

Know how you get to the point where you're not sure whether you're taking care of an injury or just being lazy? That's where I am right now. I'll find out for sure tomorrow morning at the triangle, though. If I see any of you there, go easy on me.

AHHHHHH I am always having to compete with that JOSH kid!!!! Well, I shouldn't say compete...it is more like chase! In a little while I can move up an age group and not worry about him anymore! How old are you Josh??

Scott....I'm glad you stayed at home with your family last night instead of coming to the group run to show off your birthday suit...but seriously, Happy Birthday!

Not to mention, the scariest thing I've ever had happen to me on a run happened last night. While I was running through Devinwood, lightning struck a telephone pole when I was less than 10 yards from it. Before I knew it, I was running through someones yard and was about to hind under their carport, when I realized, what would I say to them..."uh...yeah...I was um...running by, and uh...lightning struck that pole out there..and I'm uh..kinda scared, can I stand here until the storm is over?" So I just took back off and finished up my run, but ever time lightning would strike, I'd just like a little girl.

Just thought I'd share what you guys missed at the group run last night.

Wow, you live dangerously! That's almost as bad as your Tar baby dog story!
Thanks for the birthday wishes, and good job winning the 10K at Centerville. Kimberly got 1st in her age group, and Alana picked up second in hers. Katherine had some hardware for the 5K, but I didn't see if it was 1, 2, or 3.

I had a good race on saturday. It wasn't the time I was hoping for but I bested my PR by about 5 minutes....old PR 44:06...new PR 39:1... so I am happy with the results. 1st in my age group and 6th overall but I had everyone but Josh in my sites for the whole race. I am just doing the 5k at the Labor Day Race in September because it is only a week before the half marathon in Ohio. Good job to everyone that ran in Jim Herrin...it was fun.

GEICO will be on Saturday, November 12th. I'm hoping to get it into the September issue of GA Runner. It'll definitely be a points race regardless.

So guys, now that Labor Day is the next real local race, I'm sure just about everyone is going to be there, but which race are you running?

I'll be doing the 10k.

Alright guys....we got them in today. Run Fit Sports Moisture Wicking t-shirts. The shirt itself is usually $35, but we're selling them for $15..thats right..$15 for a real tech running shirt, not some cotton shirt. On top of that, starting with Labor Day, we are going to have one race a month (on average), that if you wear this shirt, you will get 5 dollars store credit here at Run Fit...so do the math, after 3 races, the shirt has paid for itself !

Steve got one already, I hope the rest of you guys will take part as well. See you soon.

I'll be running the Labor Day 10K in my new moisture wicking
"Run Fit Sports" shirt. For $15 thats a bargain anyway but I'll be glad to take the store credit too.

See you all on Labor Day if not before.

We had 100 shirts printed up, and if it goes well, we'll print up some more!

We waste a lot of advertising dollars on things that don't produce results. So, this is a way to give folks a good deal on a technical shirt, promote the store, and give back to those that are helping spread the word (thanks! - without folks like y'all, the store wouldn't last long).

I'm back on the roads. But, I'm not in racing shape yet. So, I'll be sitting this Labor Day out. I'll be in the park afterward to see how everybody did in the races.

I am gonna try and make it to run fit next week. I am pretty close to having to buy some new shoes again so maybe I can convince my wife to go this week. I am going to run the 5k at the labor day as a precurser to the half marathon that I am running up in Ohio.

Is it me, or is it getting hotter outside? I tried to go out for 16 today, and I was toast at 13, so I had to cut it short. I'm shooting for trying to run everyday this month, something I've never done before (went a whole month without taking a day off) and as of now, I've made it 21 days at an average of over 10 miles per day, only 10 days left to go!

Heat index got up to 118 today - I'd say it's definitely getting hotter. Everyone seemed to agree that it was absolutely miserable at the triangle this morning.

I think I'm switching to Pedialyte, at least until the heat and humidity ease up. I was just talking to my mom about how tired I've been since the triathlon in Cordele yesterday & the long run that I had to cut down to an 8-miler this morning. I took a nap yesterday and this afternoon and went to bed at 9:00 last night - I could hardly keep my eyes open. It's only a little after 8pm now, and I feel like going back to sleep already, so I know something's wrong. It's not as if I'm not in proper shape to be doing this stuff, but I wasn't this tired after my first tri less than a month ago. It's got to be this weather.

I didn't know this, but my mom said that even as a kid, I always got dehydrated very easily, so she sent me a comparison chart showing the difference between Gatorade and Pedialyte (it was actually a Gatorade chart,) and Pedialite is WAAAAAAY better. Check it out:

PEDIALYTE:
Calories: 24kcal
Carbohydrates: 6g (14g or less recommended)
Sodium: 248mg (100mg or more recommended)
Potassium: 188mg (28mg or more recommended)

GATORADE:
Calories: 50kcal
Carbohydrates: 14g (14g or less recommended)
Sodium: 110mg (100mg or more recommended)
Potassium: 30mg (28mg or more recommended)

Gatorade's just barely over the recommended amounts for elecrolytes - that's one point for Pedialyte. Gatorade's a lot cheaper - one point for Gatorade. I tend to shy away from drinking as much Gatorade as I should because of the calorie content, and Pedialyte has less than half the calories - that makes two points for Pedialyte. I might end up with a little less pocket change (so what else is new?) but Pedialyte wins in my book, at least until it gets cooler or I'm broke, whichever comes first.

I know I sound like a commercial here, but I just feel so awful right now and it's happened several times before. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's going through this, even though I have been overdoing it a little. But when you figure out what's wrong and what to do about it, you can't help wanting to share the information. Hope it's helpful to somebody.

And by the way, listen to your mom - she's still smarter than you think, no matter how old you are.

Hey everyone,
Just wanted to let ya'll know that there is a cross country open race Saturday at the Georgia Industrial Children's Home on Mumford Road. It's FPD's Cross Country Invitational for Varsity and Jr. Varsity teams. After they finish there is an open 5k for anyone who wants to run. Scott T. and I ran it last year and it was alot of fun. It should start around 10:30 or so and the cost is only $3.00. It's a good time.

Also, the Hares and Hounds will be in Macon on Saturday! If you aren't familiar with this group, you might want to check out there wedsite at MGH4.com! Check it out at your own risk!!! They are meeting at the Mansours parking lot at 3:00, and the trail will start around 3:20. I think I'm going to write an article for MGWS on these guys, so I should be there. If anybody else is interested in having some fun, let me know.

Kyle

Tink, BPM & F* Choir Boy all work @ GEICO. I'll be happy to interview them for you.

They've been after me forever to run with their group sometime, but well, I'm not sure I'd fit in exactly. Y'all will see what I mean if you go to the website.

I have a change in plans for the "Labor Day RR". My son has been running lately and wants to give the 5K a try. He asked me to escort him on the course so if you 10Kers pass us, say hello.

See you next Monday.

It seems to me that this year could be one of the biggest and fastest years Labor Day has seen in a while, that is as long as these dumb high gas prices don't scare them away. See you guys on Friday, Sunday, or Monday.
