I guess I'll see some of you guys tonight...

So what's next for you guys race wise? I think I'm going to be doing something on Memoral Day in either Atlanta or Athens...and maybe some of the open track meets in Atlanta. I would like to do the Tar Baby, but I'll be in jamaica so...I don't think I"ll miss it that bad.

hello all macon runners hope all of yall are running well. I am running pretty good now. I was wondering when Josh and Miles and Perry and Alan do group runs or anything like that. Im in macon for the summer and plan on running XC for GC&SU this fall. However, I am up against some serious competition. Most of the races done during season are 8ks. I am looking to accomplish a 27 minute 8k. Any of you runners looking for someone to train w/? holler back at me!

I'm planning on running the Race for Life in Forsyth this weekend, then I'll volunteer at the Triathlon on Memorial Day. I'll do the Tar Baby on June 4th, and hope Josh has fun in Jamaica. Then it's the Fort Valley Peach Festival 5K and a big gap until Peachtree.

Joey,

Nice to hear from you, it's been a little while. I run almost everyday after work from here at the store, so anytime you want to join in, your welcome. Just let me know..

Scott,

Good Luck at all the up coming races. I saw John at Blockbuster the other night and I was trying to get him to come out and train with us some, maybe he will.

Scott,

Don't forget about the Kwanzaa 5k at the Sports Hall of Fame on June 18th. One more race to throw into the mix before Peachtree.

Josh, you're right, I'd hate to miss that one as Rudy Mendez helped out calling the 1 mile splits for me at Allegro.

I ran into Scott & Kimberly at Bike tech today & thought I'd say hi to you guys, too. Since I'm in week two of recovery from neck surgery and am not allowed to run, I've been a little out of touch.

I was planning for a big Memorial Day myself with my first triathlon, but it looks like I'll have to help out instead. I don't know yet whether I'll be volunteering in general or supporting an individual. "My" Scott is still toying with the idea of participating, but he's still not sure. He rode the 20-mi bike route yesterday and know's he can do the running despite his bad knee, but it's the swim he's not terribly confident about.

You know me - Miss Competitive, so I'll just love standing on the sidelines, but I'll get back out there soon enough. I just hate slooooow recovery! See y'all soon.

Hey guys,
I found this link through actually another link in "The Competitive Wire" forum.
http://www.runforlife.ca/ClassicMile2005.html

It is about the Cambridge Classic Mile where they run a mile on the old crushed clay surface. If the winner breaks 4 minutes, they win a car. Scroll down the page and you can watch a 1 minute video clip (right underneath the pictures). Pretty cool!

Hello all.

Are the Saturday morning runs happening like planned. I would like to get in on some of those. I've let my weekly miles
sag so it's time to get back in gear.

Steve,

Nice to hear from you, haven't seen you around in a while. We haven't really got the runs up and going yet because we have some saturday races for the next few weeks, but maybe we can get them up and going soon. Stop by and see us sometime.

Good Luck everyone in Gray and at Tar Baby..

Josh,
I've been taking it easy lately, probably too much. Time to get busy again so that's why I asked about the Saturday runs. My schedule is hectic during my sons baseball season so my miles have been erratic.

Hope you guys running this weekend have a dry run.

Good luck.

Well.....I am married now and the concenses at work is that I will get fat and lazy. Wel......fat.....I gained 12 lbs on the honeymoon and vacation afterwards so I am already behind. It is kind of depressing because I was in the best condition I think I have ever been in. Now I have to fight back again. The good news is that I have only been out of running for about 2 weeks....actually a little less. I am debating whether to run the two races on the 11th and 18th but august and september should be a go for me. I need more tips on how to get faster...I am always open for them and I am also thinking about getting into some triathalons so if anyone has a good training plan then hook me up!

There are some good training plans on this website; look under the "Training" link. They are easily cpied and pasted into MS Word and adapted from there.
By the way, here are the results from Torture Trail.
http://www.coolrunning.com/results/05/ga/Jun4_27thAn_set1.shtml
Alana O'Reilly took 3rd in AG 25-29 and placed 24th overall female for the much coveted "elite wind shirt."
Congratulations to others who participated.

Perry,
I was browsing the Just Running forum under the topic of "favorite things read on a singlet/t-shirt" and I found one about the Hash House Harriers. Thought I'd show you since they asked you to come out and join that one time. I think it's hilarious, you guys should check out the forum.

Here is this guys' quote he saw on a t-shirt:

"My personal favorite is the Hash House harrier shirt that says, " a drinking club with a running problem." "

Hey i have some cool news if anyone cares. Myself and another guy I work with in the Air Force are going to run the Air Force 1/2 marathon in September....it will be in North Caronlina. We don't have much time to prepare but it should be enough time. That means I will be running my butt off for the next 3 months or so trying to get ready for that. I have a good idea on how I want to train for it but I could use any help I can get. I am sure that Perry or Josh probably have some good ideas on the best way to train for something like this. I ran the Museum 1/2 in 1 hr 31 min and some change but I am hoping to be around 1 hr 15 min to be able to compete. My 5k time right now is about 18:25. Any tips/ideas are welcome because I really want to do good at this event.

Wow. 1:15 is a tall order. I've only run 1:18 in the half, and that was when I was running 16 minute 5K times. That's 5:43 pace for 13.1 miles.

In my USATF coaching training and experience, the most imporatant factor for running a good half-marathon time is lactate threshold. To optimize lactate threshold, you need to do lots of running at a pace that stimulates this system. That pace is the pace that you can sustain in competition for one hour, which usually translates into your 10 mile or half-marathon race pace. Commonly, this is refered to as tempo pace.

If you do a tempo run each week, along with regular long intervals (800 meters to a mile), and a long run, you should be well prepared by race day. The first week, I'd warm up and do a 20 minute tempo run. Then add about 5 minutes a week until you max out at a 40 minute tempo run. It's very difficult to run much more than 40 minutes at tempo pace without competition. If you can, you're probably not running hard enough.

I hope your training goes well. I'm nursing a sore heel. So, I won't be racing any time soon.

Perry,

I started thinking about a 1:15 this morning and realized what you just said......that is way out of my reach at this point!!!!! I guess I will go small and aim for a 1:25 or so. I ran a 1:31 and if just would have had some kick in the last 5k I would have broke 1:30 easily....but my shoe came untied and that threw me off.....the last 5k of the race was about 24 minutes and I had been running at about a 6:50 pace for the previous ten. I figured I would need to do a long run and long intervals every week but I wouldn't have known about the tempo run if you had not said something. Do I just run at a pace I feel comfortable at or do I push it as hard as I can for 20 minutes at a set pace?? I would figure I will try about 6:30 to start with unless you think otherwise. I cannot maintain 6 for that long but I think I can do 6:30 for sure. I appreciate the help and I will let you know how it all turns out. I am feeling a little pain in my heel as well but I think it is just do to me taking off 2 weeks and then starting up again. I hope it isn't anything more then that because I don't want any setbacks.

Spencer

Ok, I have a dumb question:

What's the difference between a "cool runner" and a member on this site? Maybe it's one of those "if you have to ask" kind of things . . .

Once you've made a certain number of posts--30, I think--you become a cool runner.

Hey everyone, I just moved down to Macon for the summer and am trying to figure out what is going on down here running wise. I saw about the group run on Wed nights, but probably can't make those and I saw about the race this weekend (where is it, by the way). What are some good areas to run/good routes, etc.? Anything else I need to know about running here? Any other information you want to pass along to a new running Maconite like me.

Thanks.

I know that it is in Macon. I heard you sign up at the Georgia sports hall of fame in downtown Macon but if you go to georgiarunner.com you will find the grand prix series and I think that you can find a number on that website. Hopefully you find it.

The one this Saturday is a first annual race, so it'll probably be kinda small. But from what I hear of the route it sounds pretty flat & fast, and the weather should be nice and cooler on Saturday. The GA Sports Hall of Fame is at the end of Cherry St after you cross MLK downtown. Just get there early - I think it starts at 7:30 or 7:45.

Be sure to introduce yourself, and join us for long runs on Sunday at the triangle sometime. Directions are listed under group runs at macontracks.org. You don't have to be a Macon Tracks member - just be there by 7:15 sharp or you'll miss everybody. Hope to see you this weekend!
