to tell you the truth, I'm not even sure Washington Co. has a CC team...if they do I've haven't heard anything about them..so Spaulding might be the only problem.

Our region next year is going to be tough in EVERTHING! I dont think we'll win a football game and we might not make it out of the region meet depending on how our CC team is...we'll see

GO DAWGS!!

Anybody going to Footlocker this year? Our cross country team policy is that anyone that places in the top 10 at state individually will have an all-expenses-paid trip to Footlocker. I doubt I'll have anybody in the top 10 this year, but a few of the guys want to go. So, I'll probably go and run the open race that morning.

Josh, you going? Scott, is FPD sending John? I may be able to talk David into running in the open race with me.

I'm taking John and I'll be running the Masters/Open race. FPD doesn't pay for the trip, but most of his top 7 will be there. Looking forward to it.

It was a good trip. The course was pretty decent, but with a long climb in mile 3, where I lost about 30 seconds. I was shooting for 36, but ran 37:08.

It was a pretty big race with about 1,300 runners. The first 3 guys ran 29 minutes. We didn't stay for awards, but I saw the results when I got home, and I got 3rd in my new age division.

David was looking for a sub 42 for Peachtree seeding. He ran 42:33. So, he's trying to shave off those 33 seconds by Thanksgiving.

Josh, how did the cross country race go?

We actually decided not to leave for Jacksonville until saturday morning..so we didnt' go run the race down there. We spent saturday night in St. Augustine and then got up and went running down there...

My running seems to be going pretty good today...I ran a mile warmup, then ran 4x800 with only a 400m recovery and my times were 2:30, 2:24, 2:27, and 2:24...my recovery ranged from 2:11 - 2:16...so my times were not bad for so little recovery...I was very happy with them...

I'm going to go race in Waycross at an 8k down there in the swamp for some $$..so wish me luck with that one....I'll let you know how it goes..

Good Luck at State Perry..

Josh

Josh,

That was a good workout. I wish I could still do an 800 meter workout at those speeds.

Did you see the article on the MP team in the Macon paper? I can't believe that Coach Walker sat back and took credit for the teams' success. He is simply there because of the GHSA rule that a full-time teacher must be present. He has never given the team one running instruction this season. He typically just handles all the paperwork.

As I tell the runners, "This is not about me." But, it does bother me when someone else is given credit for my work. Such is the burden of being a part-time coach.

Yeah, I saw it in the paper this morning and I thought you wouldn't like it because he got most of the quotes and credit for the team...

When are you planning on racing again? Good Luck to your guys saturday...hope all middle georgia teams do well...

Well, the runners know the truth. I guess that's what counts.

I'm planning to run Will Robinson next weekend. I have my doubts about the accuracy of the course, but at this point, I'll take a fast time even if it has an asterisk beside it! It may be accurate, but I always seem to run fast there (16:27 there in 2001).

Then, it's on to Footlocker. David and I have decided not to run in Memphis. Josh, are you still involved with the Cochran race on 12-6? Is it a good course? It's either that one or the Reindeer Run 5K in Macon.

Perry,
I saw the article in the paper and figured you be a little ill. You did get a mention though. Good luck to your team this weekend.

Do you have any details on the Will Robinson such as start time and location?

Will Robinson starts at 8:30 am at the North Baldwin Fire Dept. on Airport Rd. in Milledgeville. Early registration is $15 postmarked by 11-10. Late is $17.

While we are not in charge of the race this year, we do have some tie ins with it.....Coach Cranford is in charge of the finish line and the results and the money they are paying us, goes to the Cross Country team...and the course is the same course we used for the race last year...so it is a quick course...6 turns...I steep downhill thats about a quarter mile and 1 up hill thats about a quarter of a mile...and the rest is flat as the track. Had 3 people break 17 on it last year....only other race you get that at in Middle GA is Labor Day and Peach Festival....so that should say something good for it....Maybe we'll see you there!

I haven't decided on Will Robinson yet...it depends on if I get tickets to the Georgia vs. Auburn game...if I do get tickets..I'm running Will Robinsons and heading on up to the game. If I dont get tickets, then I'm going to go down to Albany and run the Chili Run 15k....that is a great race if you've never ran it...it's worth the trip to run.

Good Luck at State..I'll be watching the results to see how it goes...I'll be going down to Waycross for the 8k...

Tomorrow John, Anna, Kimberly and I are headed down to the Museum of Aviation for the Thank-A-Vet 5K. John won the men's division last year, his first ever win. It's mostly a WR Pacers event, and after winning the Race for the Cure, John's planning on winning this one too.
Kim's wanting to know if anyone wants to make up a relay team for the Museum of Aviation Marathon. They have 4 person teams, which would mean 6 and a half miles each. I was planning on running the half marathon again, but if Kim wants a team, I better participate. Steve, you interested?

Scott,
I am actually considering running the marathon. I have been getting my long runs up and plan a 21 miler this weekend.

Good luck to you all running this weekend. John is probably on a nice confidence roll right now.

Perry,
If you haven't seen the Monday Macon Telegraph, you need to grab a copy. Someone wrote a nice letter in the editorials and gave you some good recognition for the MP team success.

Thanks for letting me know Steve. The team ran faster than any Mary Persons team has ever run at a state meet, but it wasn't enough. They ended up 18th in the state. Our Region Champ was outrun by 2 of our guys and 3 West Laurens runners. So, it wasn't a good day for him.

The girls didn't do well without our top runner (she's still injured). But, it was still our best season ever.

Did anyone run the Thank-a-Vet 5K? Did John Tankard win?

John has a streak going. For the second year he won the Thank-a-Vet, but this year, instead of a mis-spelled plaque he got the biggest trophy I've ever seen. Sure beats the Susan Komen plastic bowl! I'm going to have to build a trophy shelf real soon. He smoked the course with 16:59. My daughter did well with close to PR 28:50. I went out too fast, and got 22:33, 13 off my PR. It's a fast course, and a fun one.

Glad to hear you guys had a good weekend of running, or coaching...

I went down to Waycross to run in the Swamp Fest 8k, and it wasn't a very fun experience. I've been sick for the past two weeks and one tons of drugs..but I've been running pretty good this week so I decided to go give the race a shot. When I got up saturday morning, I didn't feel like getting out of the bed. I was so tired, but I thought being a small race, I should be able to win...and 1st place won $100...

Before I even parked the car, I knew I was in trouble. As I pulled into the parking lot, I saw a guy who I've raced a few times in the ATL area and he runs for the ATC competitive team, I think he finished 4th in the cherry blossom marathon ...Todd Liscomb...we usually go back and forth..so I knew It wouldn't be an easy win. Then minutes before the start I saw the cuban guy who finished 2nd in the Labor Day 5k...so I felt my chances at the money go out the door.

As the race started..a quick pack of 4 formed..some guy from Jacksonville was there as well...and before we knew it we knew it, we hit 2 miles in 7:20...thats right 7:20!! At this point I knew I wasn't going to win..and I knew the course wasn't right...so as bad as I hate to admit it, I just gave up. I was no longer running for time or money...so I just ran to the finish line, turned in my card...cooled down and left.

Talk about disapointing...my time was 24:10 and they said the course was about 1km short..so I would have been in the 27:30 range...not to bad I guess considering I didn't run as hard as I could the last few miles...I just hate when things go wrong at a race like this...now I wish I hadn't got out of the bed...but I'm going to race again this weekend and hope to make up for it....

Was it the first year they held the race? 1km short is ridiculous.

I ran the Albany 15K many years ago. If I recall correctly, it was pretty flat.

David and I did 6 x 1200 last night (well, David did 4 x 1200 and 2 x 800). The cooler temps. and lower humidity really helped. I was shooting for 4:12 and ran them all between 4:01 and 4:07. That's pretty close to what I could run them when I was running at my best. Things are looking up (if I can stay healthy). David has a cold. So, he might be a little weak on Saturday.

Having run the Half Marathon there last year, I think I would have broken down and cried had I had to go out and do the whole thing again! I want my 1st marathon to be a 1 lap affair (preferably in London), not 2 half marathons.
Just my $0.02, as I haven't run a full one yet.

I think I can help Steve answer that question...because this past January, that just so happened to be my first marathon...I'm not sure what type of runner you are...if you like running alone...or if you like having somone to run with to pass the time...if you like to focuse on the run or you like having things around you to keep your mind off of what you are doing..but my opinion of it is this....BORING! I really didn't have anyone to run with after about 2 miles..and there was a half marathon going on...yet I ran from miles 2 until about miles 18 alone...then I passed a guy..and about two miles later he passed me back....I didn't see another person (expect for the people at the aid stations...God Bless their soul) until the finish line...It is very mentally defeating when you finish the first loop and then you know you have to do it ALLLLLLLLLL over again...like I said..this all depends on the type runner you are...but I like having someone to run with...and I hate track for the simple reason that it's the same ole things over and over...thats how this marathon feels...I'm not saying I wont run it again...heck..I might even break down and do it again this year...but I would suggest a Large marathon for your first one to be more enjoyable...I would suggest Disney...but you might want to ask Perry on this one...he has run this marathon and others...

Perry,

that was the first time they had ever had the race...

Thanks for the replys.

Josh, I run all my runs alone so I'm used to that but I've never been 26 either.

Scott, your response was almost identical to a coworker of mine. He said there was no way he would run that circuit twice and advised I find another.

It's just so convenient to Macon to pass up and I'll hopefully be ready.
