Let me set the record straight as an impartial 3rd party...Miles called me on Saturday morning. He had run a 16:57 at the Dogwood Festival 5K, but he told me that the course may have been short. Josh called me a few minutes later and said that he ran a 17:15 at a race in Bowdon's Mill, but the course may have been long and it was run partly on a muddy dirt road. I have run Dogwood (not as fast as Miles) and yes, they did shorten the course slightly. Going by Scott's GPS distance, maybe 15 seconds need to be added to his time. Josh is on his own. I've never run that course... ------------------ Perry My User Profile

to defend myself here...I would like to give a short spill about the race I ran at Bowens Mill this weekend...To begin, there were only 28 people in the race, and I knew at the start I was going to win, unless something went very wrong. So I decided to enjoy my last real run before I started my taper for Boston. So, at the start, I decided to start out slow. For the first half mile, I was in about 5th place, and then I moved to the front. I usually go through my first mile of a 5k in about 5flat to 5:10, but since I started out slower, my first mile split was 5:50. At this point I decided to drop the pace so I'd finish with a respectable time. I ran mile 2 in 5:19 and then I ran mile 3 in 5:16. I knew if I wanted to break 17 that I'd have to just hold that pace and I'd be under 17, but I wanted to kick the last .1 so I was in just about an all out sprint. I usually run the last .1 in about 28 seconds, but as hard as I was running I was expecting to be about 25 seconds, however, it seemed as if the finish line would never get there. And when it finally did, it had taken me 50 seconds to cover the last .1. I hope this is enough to prove my point that the course was a little bit long. Furthermore, 2/3's OR more of my race was ran on a dirt road, and as you all have noticed with our current weather conditions, everytime it rains, we're placed under a flash flood warning, so you can imagine the mud and muck I was running in, and I've got the nasty flats to prove it. So Millard, if you'd like to give it a go, how about we race the 5k route we marked out for the Fila run. Ok, now in all seriousness, Congrats to all you guys who ran the Dogwood and I hope you all did as well and you expected to. In exactally one week from this moment, I should be around mile 15 of Boston..so be thinking about Alan, Perry and myself while we're up there. Until next time... Josh

Good race, Josh. Amazing how you can get under 17 without really trying! My check cleared so I'll be heading on to that "li'l ol' race on the 4th of July." I'll be in time group 1A. Anyone else doing Peachtree? Scott------------------
Just because you started late, doesn't mean you have to finish last.

Look here. It's explained under "URL Hyperlinking." I'll be without internet access for the next several days, so GOOD LUCK in advance to everyone going to BOSTON. I'll be looking for Josh and Perry during OLN's coverage. Amber [This message has been edited by mdael5966 (edited Apr-13-2005).]

Thanks to some coaching help from Perry I am 4 weeks into a training plan that I made up by using advice from others, running websites, and runnersworld magazine. I run 4 miles easy on Monday and Wednesday (7:45 to 8 min pace) Tuesday and Thursday I do intervals 400m on Tues and 800m on Thurs....each week I up the amount and I try to keep it about 1:25 per 400m. Friday I do a tempo run or hills and saturday a long run.....tomorrow the distance is upped to 9 miles. I lift 4 times a week as well......every muscle group. The only thing I haven't been doing is eating very good but I am about to start that up. Hopefully around mid May I will be ready to run a PR and then I can share my own secrets with everyone! Maybe I can run that Boston Marathon one day....sounds like a blast. Spencer

Hey, everyone! See you all tomorrow at the Indian Mounds. Looks like it will be cool and breezy, hopefully not as windy as the Forsythia Festival was. Scott------------------

Hi, I live and race in GA. I just got on the discussion board and have been ready your post. I ran boston on Mon. and was the first women from Georgia with a 3:02, a 30 minute Boston PR. I read that you all did good too. Have you recovered yet? Kate

I am aiming for peachtree also. I am going for my first sub 40 10K. I work at Fleet Feet in Sandy Springs, so I will be working the entire Peachtree expo. I am excited!!! I am also doing some of the ATC series races to get some points. I am just waiting for my coach to make out my schedule for me. He is not letting me run till Tues. for recovery and it is killing me. I just want to get out there and run!Kate

Everyone coming to the group run tomorrow? I was planning to take the day off. But, I didn't run today because of the rain this morning. So, I'll be out there running 4 easy miles.Kyle, we should get the Saturday morning long run group going. We could meet at the store or the triangle. From the store, we could run to the triangle via Zebulon & Lamar roads, have a drink stop, then run back. Not sure how far that is. But, I could drop off the drinks at the triangle on the way to the store before the run, and pick up the empties on the way home. Just an idea. Any other ideas out there? ------------------ Perry My User Profile
