Amber, so sorry about your marathon. Hope the doc visit works out.
Steve, the course was short on the 5K, so it wasn't really under 20:00, and there were no marshals on it, so knowing the course helped. I would probably been lower down in Neal McGrail hadn't gotten 2nd overall, and I think some out of town guys in my age group got lost and ran further. Not Macon's finest hour for either race, I think.

The doctor thinks I have a stress fracture. I'm having a bone scan tomorrow to confirm or deny this. Looks like I'll be out for about six weeks.

I hope it's not a stress fracture. That's a long time to take off. The 8 weeks that I took off for a heel spur seemed like 6 months!

Heres hoping that it's not a stress fracture. I know I took a week and a half off when I hurt the calf, and it just about killed me. Good luck with the scan.

thanks for the info on organizing a race Perry and congrats to everyone in the cherry blossom.......it seems like whenever I decide not to run in a race it turns out that I had a chance to place high!!! Oh well.......I am going to do a 6 week plan with hard intervals and long runs on saturday to prep myself for a faster time so I won't be out there for awhile.

Anyone going out to Indian Springs for the Macintosh Classic Saturday? It's a 5K at 9:00 and a 2K dog jog at 10:00.

We can add another family member to the running community.... our little dog Hartley. John decided to run the Dog Jog with her and she came in first, ahead of a greyhound! She won a huge rawhide bone and a 6 month supply of FrontLine. John came in second overall in the 5K behind Allen Black. I got 1st in age group. It was a fun race on a challenging course.

Spencer,

You and I are similar size and have somewhat similar times.
I am hoping to break 19:00 for the 1st time in an upcoming
race. My PR is 19:12.
What are your 1600/800 repeat times ?
How many miles per week do you run ?

My recent stats:

3x1600 repeats: 5:53,5:53,5:52 3:00 jog/walk recovery
6x800 repeats: 5@2:47 1@2:46 90 - 120 sec recovery
I run about 35 miles per week.

Jay

Good news, the bone scan showed that my leg is completely sound. So, the doctor has revised his diagnosis to plain old overuse, probably a strain of the petaller tendon.

He's having me do two weeks of PT. After that, I should be able to start running again.

Amber,
Great to hear there are no serious problems. You'll be back quick.

Scott,
Are you directing the race at the Indian Mounds? That might be my next race.

Amber,

That's awesome news. Much better than the first news we got from you. Overuse is the same problem I had with my calf that began back in the beginning of Feburary. Aside from the PT, I would also suggest a deep tissue massage and a lot of pain meds. Good luck with it though.

Great news, Amber! So glad it's not a fracture. Will you be running the MSO race on the 23rd?
Steve, yes I'm RA at the MSO Allegro run (that's Race Advisor) as the MSO representative is the Race Director. Please come run, as we need to support this race so it becomes a regular event. They haven't held this race since 2002, so it's good to see one come back.
I'll be handing out applications at the Tracks Club meeting at Run Fit Sports next Tuesday.

Hey Jay,

I am just recently getting into running intervals and I have started with just a simple 3 minute pace. Last week I did 6@800m one day and 8@400m the next day. I am around 2:57 per 800m and I try to run the 400m in 1:25. I think my biggest problem is starting out too fast in my races and I burn out at the end. I am doing a 6 week plan that I made up myself that includes two days of increasingly hard intervals, tempo runs, hills, and a long run on saturday. I probably did about 25 miles last week but I haven't had time recently to get more than that. At the end of this 6 week training period I hope to break under 18....for my 5k. My best 5k thus far is 18:51 but like I said I always burn out at the end and hopefully this training will get me used to running at the same pace more consistantly.

If you look at your application in the Macon Tracks newsletter you'll notice that the fee is $12.00 pre-reg and $15.00 race-day. Anywhere else the fee is $15.00 pre-reg and $20.00 race-day. I sent my kids registration in, saved $16.00!

Well, the Cooper River Bridge Run was a disaster!! Alan and I made the trip over to Charleston SC Friday afternoon and some how, when we got up for teh race, we took a race shuttle bus to teh starting line from teh finish and it took the bus about 2 hours to go 6 miles because of the weather and traffic. Long story short, we missed the start of the race and wasted a trip to SC. It seemed like a nice race in a nice town though, maybe next year, things will go better.

Scott,
Just read your note about needing people to support the MSO race on the 23rd. I am planning on running it as well, hope it is a fun race. How is the course laid out?

Just became a member and I was looking at your profile and I noticed you are a coach. When did you become a coach? Was interested in paying somebody to coach me during the summer. ha

The start is just below the welcome center. You'll run down the hill, under the railroad bridge and past the mounds to the parking lot at the end of the road. Mile 1 is down there. Loop clockwise at the dead end and come back. The 2 mile is almost back to the start. Go up past the welcome center and turn right on the access road. There will be a turnaround and then run back to the welcome center. The course is accurate, as I laid it out with a surveyor's wheel on Saturday. There are 2 pretty good hills, but the finish is downhill. I enjoyed the course when I ran it it 2002, and let's pray the weather cooperates!

Heard you ran some race Saturday. How did it go? I heard you were disappointed because it was too short. Hope you posted a good time to make up for the seconds you SHOULD have added on! ha
