Who's running the Lions Club Sweetheart Run for Sight in Centerville Saturday? Kimberly and I'll be running the 12K, Amber & Scott H said they'd do it too. 2 of my walkers from my school wellness group are going to do the 5K. Nice flat course and the Galleria has good facilities. Scott------------------

I'm doing the 12K also. See you there. Amber N.

Yeah how about all of you really fast people just do the 12k so that us medium fast people can have a shot at winning something. I have been doing a lot of training and I think I am ready for a new PR. Previous one is 18:54 at the Macon Labor Day Road Race. I ran the course on base in 19:02 last friday and that is a minute better then my previous best time....if anyone has ever ran it......it is very windy but almost completely flat....all the turns just slow you down. I am looking for somewhere around a 18:45 or lower. I want to be at 18:30 by March because there is a 5th MOB competion and I am running the 5k. Huh...well most everyone will have no idea what I am talking about so....I'll just stop writing. Spencer

Looks like I"m going to run the 12k also. I think Kyle (Beck) is going to run, but he's still not sure what race he wants to run. Perry will be in Rockmart for the 50k...so I'm not sure about anyone else.Josh

Believe it or not, the 50K was actually fun. I ran at the same effort I did at Aviation Museum and ended feeling the same (as if I could have run all day at that pace). The suprise was I won! It was the Georgia USATF Ultra Marathon 50K Championships. So, I figured that I would be out of my league. The guy that I thought would win, Mark Coughlin, former Atlanta Marathon champ (2 years), didn't show. I ran in a pack the first 5 miles. Then, from about 6 miles until the 25 miles, I was running in second place. Then the leader fell apart with 8 miles to go, and I passed him with 5 miles to go. Aside from an opening mile of 7:16, all my splits were between 6:58 and 7:08. The weather was cold to start, but was perfect after the first hour. I was a bit overdressed: gloves, headband, tights with shorts underneath, long sleeve coolmax shirt, and of course, my Run Fit singlet. The main negative was that the entire trail was concrete (not asphalt, concrete). So, my legs (especially the balls of my feet) are a lot sorer than usual. Then again, I've never run that far. Congrats to Josh on the 12K win in Centerville! ------------------ Perry My User Profile

Great job, Perry. I noticed the concrete at the New Years race in 2003, but that was a teeny 7K. I hope you had on cushioned shoes and not racing flats! Scott------------------

Actually, I did have on the Mizuno Aero racing flats. If I would have known it was all concrete, I would have worn the Mavericks. I'm glad I didn't get any stress fractures!

Good run Perry and congrats to Josh. Perry, will you do that distance again? The Centerville 12K was fun to run but I sure wish the splits would have been right. I really never had a clue what pace I was running. Anyone doing Geico? Steve

Amber & Scott Higgins took Angie and me around the course on Sunday morning. It's a great straight course with 2 uphill stretches and an uphill finish. There's 1 turnaround late in the course. Gary Musolf has done well. And it's been accurately measured! I'll be there doing the 12K. I wish I could have run in the Sweet heart run last saturday but I just cannot afford all of the entry fees. I am getting married in May and I have to save my cash. Geico is a go for me....I need to race every once in awhile to keep sane. Spencer

I'm not sure about the weekend of Geico yet. It all depends on this calf problem. For all I know, I might still be inactive. If I am running, but don't feel like I"m in very "fast" shape, then I'm going to run Geico or Super Dolphin Days at SSI. And if I feel like the calf is good to go, and I'm still feeling fast, then I'm going to go run CRR10K. Steve, I think the splits were right at Sweetheart, after the first mile. And I think it might have been a little over a quarter mile short. Depends on your pace, but I was about 1:30 off. Josh

Amber Higgins had her new Garmin 201on at the 12K and she logged the course at 7.03, which would be .43 of a mile short. That is a significant distance. Scott

Steve, Yes, I'd do the distance again. In fact, I'm thinking that I may want to try a 50 miler. I may do the GEICO 12K. It will be 2 weeks befiore Cherry Blossom. So, that would give me time to recover. ------------------ Perry My User Profile

The 5K is pretty flat, there's a slight incline going out and the finish is on a slight incline also. The 12K has two good hills in it, but has a lot of level running. Scott------------------

Scott, Do the two hill include the finish, or is the finish a third hill? Amber

Well, CRR10k is out the window due to this calf thing, but Geico is still up in the air. I plan to try and start back running at this wednesdays group run and we'll see how things go from there....Josh

The finish is a third incline, but I wouldn't call it a hill. It is about 400 meters, though, but the last 0.1 is flat. Scott

I drove the 12k course yesterday and can say there is a pretty major hill on Riggins Mill Rd. That is the road running behind B&W. It is fairly steep and over 1/2 mile worth of climb. The rest of the run doesn't look too bad but they are always easy in the car. See you Saturday. Steve

Hi everyone,Just wondering, how easy is it to find the Geico facility? The race app says take I-16 exit 6, and follow the signs. Are there actually signs that will direct me? I'm the one who got lost trying to find the Al Toll start, so any advice would be appreciated. Amber

Amber,Geico is fairly easy to find. Exit #6 which is Ocmulgee East Blvd. Take a left from the exit and about a 1/4 - 1/2 mile up you'll see a Dairy Queen/Convenience store on the left. The Geico facility is right past this on the left. You won't miss it. They also have a facility on the right side of the road so don't let that confuse you. There's not much out that way so you'll be fine. Steve

Gary Musolf is probably out at the interstate right now with a mallet putting up signs. As Steve says, it's easy to find, and the last 3 years the signs are easy to follow. Scott------------------
