I'm heading to Vegas on vacation and don't want to miss any running time. Does anyone have any suggestions for running on/near the Strip?------------------ Me

Was out there a year ago on the strip, found it pretty tough to get a good run in...cars, stop lights, etc. Did make it down by UNLV, that was a little better, the track teams were out practicing, that was cool. If you'll have a car, head out to Red Rock Canyon, and run to your hearts content, it is awesome out there.

Well, if it is feasible, go early, early in the morning if you're going to attempt to run on the strip. Traffic, dodging and weaving amongst hordes of pedestrians, many stoplights can make it a very frustrating run.

I sometimes run down the parallel side street (can't remember the name) a couple of blocks east of the strip. It's the one that runs on the east side of the Las Vegas Hilton. That's usually OK - not too much traffic and not as many traffic lights.

I was just in Vegas last weekend. I would second the suggestion to get up early - I am not an early riser, so I didn't really get in any exercise. It is impossible to walk at a decent clip, much less run along the Strip, after people start to get up for breakfast (8 or so). Also, I don't know where you are from, but living in SoCal for the last year has spoiled me as to cars yielding to pedestrians. That is certainly not the case in Vegas. Keep an eye out.I am also not a fan of Vegas, so running along the Strip (not an attractive place, with plenty of construction sites to mar the view) didn't have a lot of appeal. Since I was only there for the weekend, I didn't motivate to rent a car, but if you have time, I would suggest that. I have heard (as 66 runner said)that running at Red Rock Canyon is stunning. I had hoped to get over there, but the short visit with family didn't allow it. You can run trails at Red Rock or along the scenic road, and I think you can get in as much distance as you want.

Tell me at what hotel you are staying (The Strip is really big), and what kind of mileage you're looking at, and then I'll give you some ideas.Running on the Strip is a really bad idea. Too many interruptions, too many people. Not realistic. And there's a 5-mile run every Wednesday at 6 PM out of the Nike Shop at the Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace. And 66runner was right. Red Rock Canyon is just phenomenal to run in. Trails, hills, 15-mile loop on the road, spectacular scenery. About 18 or so miles away from the Strip. Good luck. Mars

Thanks everyone. Here's a little more info. I'm arriving Sunday AM and am leaving Wed AM. I'm staying at the Monte Carlo and I don't plan on having a car so Red Rocks is out. I guess I was looking for opinions on how difficult it will be to run down the strip. And from the sounds of it, it appears to be a pain.

Thanks everyone. I ended up running on the strip between 6-7am. Very few people on the streets, but there were a bunch of runners. I would recommend AM runs on the strip to anyone visiting Vegas...

Is it safe for a female to run at Red Rock by herself?

I would suggest that you contact the Las Vegas Track club, here is a link to their message board. http://www.lvtc.org/messageboard/I have run the canyon a couple of times, the times of the year were November and January. The road did not have much traffic, maybe saw a dozen cars during the runs. Saw double that in cyclists. It is pretty isolated. Very scenic.
